Cloud Computing Practical
Assignment 2
Question: What is cloud computing? Give the basic idea of cloud computing concepts
in short.
Solution: Cloud computing is the on-demand availability of computer system resources,
especially data storage (cloud storage) and computing power, without direct active
management by the user. Large clouds often have functions distributed over multiple
locations, each location being a data center. Cloud computing relies on sharing of
resources to achieve coherence and economic of sales, typically using a "pay-as-you-go"
model which can help in reducing but may also lead to unexpected for unaware users
Basic Concepts:
There are certain services and models working behind the scene making cloud
computing feasible and accessible to end users. Following are the working models for
cloud computing:
• Deployment Models
• Service Models
Deployment Models:
Deployment models define the type of access to the cloud, i.e., how the cloud is located.
Cloud can have any of the four types of access: Public, Private, Hybrid, and community.
Cloud computing is based on service models. These are categorized into three basic
service models which are
Service Models:
Cloud computing is based on service models. These are categorized into three basic
service models which are -
• Infrastructure-as–a-Service (IaaS)
• Platform-as-a-Service (PaaS)
• Software-as-a-Service (SaaS)
Question: What is cloud computing? Enlist and explain applications of cloud
computing.
Solution: Cloud Computing refers to manipulating, configuring, and accessing the
hardware and software resources remotely. It offers online data storage, infrastructure,
and application. Cloud computing offers platform independence, as the software is not

required to be installed locally on the PC. Hence, Cloud Computing is making our business
applications mobile and collaborative. Cloud Computing has its applications in almost all the
fields such as business, entertainment, data storage, social networking, management,
entertainment, education, art and global positioning system, etc. Business Applications Cloud
computing has made businesses more collaborative and easier by incorporating various apps
such as MailChimp, Chatter, Google Apps for business, and QuickBooks.

Application Name Application Description

It offers an email publishing platform. It is widely employed by the
MailChimp
businesses to design and send their email campaigns.
Chatter apps helps the employee to share important information about
Chatter organization in real time. One can get the instant feed regarding any
issue.
Google offers creating text documents, spreadsheets, presentations,
Google Apps etc., on Google Docs which allows the business users to share them
in collaborating manner.
It offers online accounting solutions for a business. It helps in
QuickBooks monitoring cash flow, creating VAT returns and creating business
reports.
Data Storage and Backup:
Box.com, Mozy, Joukuu are the applications offering data storage and backup services in
cloud

Mozy Mozy offers online backup service for files to prevent data loss.
Joukuu is a web-based interface. It allows users to display a single

Question: Explain the Relationship between intranets and cloud.
Solution: An intranet is typically accessed by cloud based portal Internal company intranets
are a one-stop shop for employee information, collaboration, and activity. It is a portal that
allows company employees to complete tasks like obtaining critical policy and procedural
documents, stay informed on relevant company news, download and turn in essential forms
(expenses, vacation time, HR related documents), and collaborate on projects. Intranets can
also house information that helps employees create a workplace culture, so company social

outings or volunteer projects could be housed on an intranet. Their purpose is to streamline

company activities and procedures in an organized method. A cloud-based intranet takes all
of this information and makes it accessible anywhere an employee has permission to access
it.

Question: Explain the benefits of installing cloud computing in the organization.

Solution: Benefits:
• One can access applications as utilities, over the Internet.
• One can manipulate and configure the applications online at any time.
• It does not require to install a software to access or manipulate cloud application.
• Cloud Computing offers online development and deployment tools, programming runtime
environment through PaaS model.
• Cloud resources are available over the network in a manner that provide platform
independent access to any type of clients.
• Cloud Computing offers on-demand self-service. The resources can be used without
interaction with cloud service providers.
• Cloud Computing is highly cost effective because it operates at high efficiency with
optimum utilization. It just requires an Internet connection
• Cloud Computing offers load balancing that makes it more reliable.
