● What they spend most of their time doing
● Where they live
● What their family situation is like - are they
married, single, divorced?
● What makes them tick?
● What are their biggest fears/dreams/desires
● What keeps them up at night that they would
never admit to anyone?
Be as specific and detailed as you can.

I know it might feel a little weird in the beginning,

because you are making this person up, but go with
it and get as detailed as you can.

Empathy is the core foundation of any successful
business.

In other words, before you can start offering products

and services, you need to understand who it is you’re
serving and what they desire most.

What is an Empathy Map?

1. Download and print off this empathy map
2. Find someone to interview who you consider to
be similar to your dream customer
3. Ask them the following 4 questions:

a. Tell me a little bit about yourself

3 Model Your Competition

Okay so you probably aren’t the first person to start
a business in your industry...which is a good thing!

1
The goal of this step is to list out your competitors
and define different aspects of their website to use
on your own website.

Here’s what you’re looking at specifically:

1. Colors/styles
2. Website layout
3. Graphics
4. Domain name ideas

How Do I Do This?
It’s simple, just follow these steps:

Step 1: Create a spreadsheet with 4 columns titled

after the 4 points above.
Step 2: Run a search on Google for
“top 10 [YOUR INDUSTRY] blogs”
(this is just one method, more can be seen
in the Foundation Mini Course)
Step 3: For any sites that interest you in any of the
4 columns, note down their URL
Step 4: Once you have a decent sized list of websites
(at least 5) under each column you can
move on.

Why Do I Need to Do This?

Simply put, when you go to create your website you can reference this spreadsheet to help you figure out which
elements go into creating a successful website in your industry.

4 Finding Your Audience

Before you start any business, you need to know

Step 2: Use the Google Keyword Planner to see if
To do this, we’re going to look at the 4 S’s: there is a lot of search volume around
important keywords, then add these
1. Search (Google) keywords to your spreadsheet
2. Social (Facebook, Pinterest, Instagram, Step 3: Find out which social platforms are most
Linkedin, etc) appropriate for your audience and list out
3. Sight (Youtube) the most popular profiles
4. Sound (podcasting) Step 4: Check YouTube to see if there are any
channels with a large number of subscribers
in your industry and list the most popular
vloggers
Step 5: Go into iTunes and see if you can find any
podcasts in your industry that have a lot of
reviews (this normally indicates popularity)

How Do I Do This?
Well, like I said, it’s important to know where your audience is hanging out!

Once you have filled out your spreadsheet, you will be able to see where they are hanging out and more importantly,
where you should dedicate time to maintaining an active presence.

5 Content Plan
Before you can get underway in creating content
for your website, you first need to discover what
type of content is most appropriate for your
audience.

We’re looking at 3 key areas here:

1. Scribe (blog post content)

2. Sight (video content)
3. Sound (podcasting)

What is This All About?

It’s simple, just follow these steps:

Step 1: Create a spreadsheet with 3 columns

you can see their most popular posts (usually
found in the sidebar) before listing out links
to those posts on your spreadsheet under Why Do I Need to Do This?

their posts and see which has had the most Once you have a list of all the most popular posts/

6Uncovering
Products & Services
I’m guessing you’re not creating this business for the fun of it, right?

I mean, you probably have enough hobbies by now.

Which is why it’s important to determine what types of products and/or services you can offer your future customers.

One of the best ways to do this is with a simple sales funnel that looks like this:

Lead Magnet

INTRO OFFER

MAIN OFFER
PROFIT MAXIMIZER
There are 4 steps in total: What is This All About?
1. Lead magnet It’s simple, just follow these steps:
this is something you offer for free in exchange for
someone’s email address. It should be packed full Step 1: Create a spreadsheet with 4 columns for

Step 2: For lead magnet ideas, use buzzsumo.

in addition to your core offer additional products or services you could
sell off the back of your core offer
(for example, done-for-you services,
live events, one-on-one coaching etc..)

Why Do I Need This?

Once you have started to build an audience, you can reference your spreadsheet for ideas on the types of products and
services they may be interested in purchasing.

From there, you can ask them what they want you to create for them and see if it matches up with the ideas you’ve
already come up with.

If it does, you can run with it.

If not, take a look at your offers, see where you can tweak or reposition and then offer it to your audience.

This will save you from guessing, and potentially failing, to offer people something they actually want.

Of course, what was mentioned above was just a quick way of determining the different types of products and services
you could potentially sell.

We dive into much more detail inside The Foundation Mini Course!

7 Promotion Plan
Okay, so you have a list of products that you could potentially sell
to your future customers.

Awesome!

The question now is, how are you going to promote those products
(and your business in general) to your audience?

There are two common ways to promote your business:

1. Free promotion strategies, ie. Organic search traffic, social

media, referral traffic, direct traffic
2. Paid promotion strategies, ie. Google ads, social media
ads, retargeting, banner ads
