CHAPTER 8 RELATE TO PRACTICE

1. What is the most important characteristic of a tour guide? Explain why.

 From my perspective, the most important characteristics of a tour guide

are having local knowledge and have a good communication skill. We are
all aware that a tour guide is responsible for explaining to tourists the
information about a location. Thus, it is important to have knowledge and
communication skill. Tour guides are not just talking and explaining; they
should have good personalities such as being kind, cheerful, and friendly.

Therefore, to generate wonderful and unforgettable experiences for the

tourists, we need these two kind of characteristics.

2. Why there are pros and cons in the job of a tour guide?

 We all know that tour guiding is indeed a fun and exciting job but not all
the time. I think it is because as a tour guide, they are facing stress in
different situations. You have to learn a lot about the location and a good
thing is you will have a great experience with different people. However,
you may also face different personalities because not all people easy to
deal with. Hence, as tour guides that causes them stress.

Therefore, I conclude that nothing is perfect in different career and it is

normal to have these pros and cons as a tour guide.

CHAPTER 8 SELF REFLECTION

1. Explain why we should avoid the 7 sins. Why do we need to know these?

 The 7 sins (apathy, brush-off, coldness, condescension, robotism, rule

books, and runaround) should be avoided because these are the
inappropriate attitudes and behaviors toward its customers. Bear in mind
the line, "customer comes first" because they are the most valuable
people to a certain business. You’ll need to avoid at all costs if you want
to hang on to your customers and see your business succeed.

2. Explain the work of Hostesses.

monitors restaurant activity to determine seating and dining flow. They
are also responds to guest inquiries and requests in a timely, friendly, and
