4. explain Hickel’s paradigm of “de-development”.

Questions for Reflection “Questioning Concerning Technology” by Martin Heidegger

1. How technology a mode of revealing?


Answer:Because this implies that mechanical things have their own novel sort of quality,
perseverance, and associations among parts and wholes. They have their own particular
manner of introducing themselves and the world wherein they operate.

2. In your daily experience of technology, what else is revealed to you aside from its
function?
Answer:Maybe the reliance on local energy. Before if all else literally failed, and you had
no electricity, you could always rely on the telephone because the required electricity was
provided on the wire from the local telephone centre.

3. Why should technology be questioned?


Answer: Because what is within the grasp of technology is only the body mind
combination which is only the costume that an ‘Knowledgeable’ being wears.

4. How is questioning the piety of thought?


Answer:we continue to search and discover the nature of truth for us to know, and all we
will do in our modern generation is to anticipate and investigate continually.

5. How does art provide a way out of enframing?


Answer:The rule of enframing threatens with the possibility that it could be denied to
him to enter into a more original revealing .

Questions for Reflection “Forget ‘developing’ poor countries, it is time to ‘de-develop’ rich
countries” by Jason Hickel

1. Why must we change our paradigm of growth and consumption to that of “de-
development”?
Answer: Because it requires people to be more intelligent than their predecessors to be
able to change a paradigm. But if people are smarter, they can be both richer and more
numerous they can have both development and a less strained environment. They can
consume more by using less resources.

2. Why are the terms de-development, de-growth, and zero growth seemingly unacceptable
to the usual framework of human progress?
Answer: Because capitalism is based around continual growth. If you were to restrict the
growth or reduce development you would be causing a recession or depression under a
capitalist system.

3. How have we been enframed by the notion of growth?


Answer: we are enframed of the notion of growth bc of the advancement of technology
and development of our economy and society

4. How do we improve our lives and yet reduce consumption?


Answer: Improve the quality The quality improvement that has reduced consumption
strength most is longer and better lives reduce birthrates and population growth.

5. What are the similarities and differences between Heidegger’s The Questioning
Concerning Technology and Hickel’s article?
Answer: Yet they pitch at different levels. Heid is concerned what how in touch we are
ourselves, our being, the world we naturally live in. Hickel’s concerns are more
sociopolitical poverty, sustainability.
