PROJECT MANAGEMENT METHODOLOGY AND LIFE CYCLE 3

Question: During which project management lifecycle stage(s) do you believe

a project management methodology is most impactful, and how do we ensure
alignment between the lifecycle of the project and the implementation of a
project management methodology?
The Project Management life cycle entails the framework comprising of the distinctive high-
level stages that need to be carried out for the successful implementation of the project. It
involves the following five stages namely the project initiation stage, the project planning,
project execution, project controlling and monitoring and project closure stage. In the case of
successful execution of a project management lifecycle, it has to be emphasized that the relevant
project management methodology is the most effective at the project monitoring and planning
and project execution stages (Armenia et al., 2019). In order to ensure alignment between project
lifecycle and successful implementation of the project management methodology the following
steps are based on the PMBOK approach by utilizing the PRINCE2 methodology that is
described as follows by means of the following schematic diagram

The PRINCE2 methodology incorporates procedures and techniques that enable successful
planning of the project by stages, role definition within the organization and ensure risk
management and quality control of the business. The following steps have to be followed to
ensure successful implementation of PRINCE2 methodology during the project lifecycle
management which is given as follows

 Project Start-Up- This process entails the relevant measures for accruing necessary
information for initiating the project. This involves the appointment of project
management teams and an executive, the definition of expected customer quality, the
relevant planning of the work schedule based on supplier and customer agreement
leading to the creation of the project manager's log (Pace, 2019). This involves
assessment of the risks entailed to the project.
 Project Initiation- This stage involves the verification of the fact whether the said
project under consideration has business merit based on project parameter definition. The
project initiation document is assembled and thereafter is utilized to evaluate the factors
responsible for the success of the project. Furthermore, it also involves the strategies for
assessing risk, quality, communication and configuration for the given project.
 Project Direction- The following stage under consideration is managed by the senior
management who appropriately delegates responsibility amongst the project board
members to ensure successful project management implementation (Vaníčková, 2017).
The higher management involved implements the necessary measures that ensure
approval and preparation of project plan, the project viability and verification including
the monitoring of the factors responsible behind the progress and successful project
completion.
 Controlling Stage- The given stage describes the daily/routine activities that need to be
carried out by the project manager for successfully monitoring the project under
consideration. This involves the consideration of the following project execution stages
namely the work approval, risk assessment, information gathering, situation review,
reporting and necessary corrective activities.
 Product Delivery Management- This phase entails the measures that ensure successful
communication and coordination between project team experts and the project manager.

The process under consideration includes planning, verification, reconciliation and

assignment of the workforce based on the required quality.
 Stage Boundary Management- This phase includes updating the project business case
and project business plan and also the updating of the risk register associated with the
project and measures enabling a successful transition to the next project management
stage.
 Project Closure- This phase involves the measures that are required to comply with the
request of the project manager and the termination of the project whenever the goals
associated with the project are met. It further involves detailing the scope associated with
the project objectives and ensuring customer satisfaction and ensuring appropriate
measures for support and maintenance of the project.
