Feasibility Report

Purpose: To decide what car/truck to buy

Problems:

 Limited budget
 Must be daily drivable
 Gas prices
Possible Options:

 2011 Acura TSX

 2001 Subaru Outback
 2003 Chevy Duramax
Criteria: Must be able to drive daily, good mpg, reliable, good on a budget.
Analysis:
TSX: a little more expensive coming in at around $10,000, great gas mileage averaging about
29mpg combined, very reliable coming from a Honda background. Has low miles, manual
transmission, technology package, custom wheels and coil overs, and many other
modifications. Is super low to the ground so daily driving this car could be an issue.
Outback: great on a budget coming in at around $4,000. Good gas mileage not as good as the
TSX but averaging around 24mpg combined. Very reliable Subaru engine even with 200,000
miles. Easy to maintain, manual transmission, lots of modifications, all-wheel drive for winter,
very fun, very daily drivable.
Duramax: The most expensive on the list coming in at around $20,000, terrible gas mileage,
diesel is very expensive, very low miles so its pretty reliable. Great for daily driving other than
paying for diesel. Manual transmission, reliable modifications, can tow anything and can go
anywhere.
Chart: Lower number indicates best

Criteria TSX Outback Duramax

Budget 2 1 3
daily able 3 1 2
Gas mileage 1 2 3
Overall 6 4 8

Conclusion: After evaluating the 3 vehicle options the Duramax was the worst option for my current
situation. It was decided that the Outback was the best option throughout all the criteria. Granted if my
daily driving habits were different the results may have favored the Duramax.

Recommendation: The Outback is clearly the best choice considering my current daily driving habits. It’s
great on gas, very reliable, can go anywhere and do anything I need it to, and is also great on my budget.
