Managing VS. Leading

1) What is the difference between managing and leading a project? (p.340)

Answer:

Managing a project is to handle the complicated questions on the project like planning the

project, monitoring the progress and results, any correction plan if needed, solve the problems

like technical issues, coworkers’ relationship, and expediting any activities, also to balance the

time, costs and project scope.

Leading a project is to face any possible changes like if there is any issue on the project, need to

immediately understand the problem and make changes to ensure the project is on the right track.

Also need to provide the correct directions and motivation, and make sure the resource is used

correctly.

Stakeholder Network

1) What is the definition of "stakeholders"? (p.342)

Answer:

Stakeholders are whoever participate into the project or get benefit or damage their advantage

from the project.

2) Describe the network of stakeholders (p.342, Figure 10.1)

Answer:

The network of stakeholders is interconnected web, who have related to the project might help or

turn down the project.

3) Which group of stakeholders is the closest to the project manager? (P.342, Figure 10.1)

Answer:

Functional managers should be the closest group of stakeholders to the project manager, as the

project are mostly relied on this group to work and finish up the project.

4) Describe each group of stakeholders for the project (P.342/343)

Answer:

Stakeholders would be different groups of people either external or internal related to the project.

Those external groups such as project sponsors, contractors, government agencies, vendors or

suppliers, customers and other organizations might involve. The external groups are those

individual companies or organizations who has interest into the project and might get benefit or

turn down the project. Internal groups such as top management, functional teams and

administrative support groups who are the parties within the same organization. Those teams can

work closely with project manager.

Qualities of an Effective PM

1) What are the qualities of an effective project manager? (p.359/360)

Answer:

An effective project manager should be good at communication with good negotiation skill and

has clear vision that can do good decision making. Effective manager also has general

knowledge for the business, who can effectively lead the different teams to participle in the

project and manage the time. The last would be an effective manager should be with good

emotional and possible to face any issue for the project positively and proactively.
