HOW many sustainable development goals?

- 17

Target year: 2030.

agenda: '17 Goals to Transform Our World.'

Each goal has specific targets to be achieved over the next 15 years.

These goals are described as 'an unprecedented opportunity to bring the countries and citizens
of the
world together to embark on a new path to improve the lives of people everywhere, where no
one is left behind'

1: No Poverty
This goal relates to removing poverty and inequality within and among nations. It aims to
eradicate poverty for all people by the year 2030, extreme poverty is measure as live on ✳️✳less

than US $1.25 a day. ✳️✳️

It aims to also remove inequality and ensure that everyone is protected against things such as
unemployment and have access to healthcare and support services.

Reason why it's important:

Millions of people globally are still living in extreme poverty. The success of this goal would
mean lower rates of morbidity and mortality due to poor health and diseases due to poverty.
People living in poverty lack access to food, clean drinking water and sanitation, don't have a
decent standard of living and limited or no access to education.

2: Zero Hunger
This goal aims to end all forms of hunger and malnutrition. And also improve sustainable
agricultural productivity, including adapting to climate change ad extreme weather conditions,
which will hopefully prevent problems such as droughts, floods and other natural disasters. It
aims to improve food growing sustainability, whilst protecting the environment.
Reason why it's important:
Millions of people globally still experience chronic hunger and malnutrition, resulting in high
mortality rates. Malnutrition and hunger result in weaker immune system functioning, resulting in
high level of illness and diseases. This goal is also important because increased illness and
disease related to hunger and malnutrition results in children not being able to attend school
and adults unable to work, further contributing to the poverty cycle.

✳️✳️3: Good health and wellbeing

This goal aims to improve physical and mental health and wellbeing in all countries, by reducing
mortality and morbidity rates due to common causes. It aims to ensure that everyone enjoys the
right to health, which includes high quality medical care and accessible and economical
medicines and vaccines. It also aims to reduce maternal, infant and under-5 mortality rates as
well as premature mortality from non-communicable and communicable diseases from things
such as ✳️✳️AIDS and malaria.✳️✳️

Reason why it's important:

Millions of people from around the world are still dying from mainly preventable causes and
infant and child mortality rates are still high in many developing countries and could be
prevented with improved access to safe water, nutritious food, healthcare and vaccines. This
will improve their future and quality of life, so they have the ability to strive to reach their full
potential, because they are the future.

4: Quality education
This goal is about ensuring that females and males have equal access to high quality pre-
primary, primary, secondary and tertiary education and develop the vocational skills needed for
employment, leading to more and also better employment opportunities.

Reason why it's important:

Millions of children in developing countries still do not have the opportunity to attend school and
therefore have low literacy ad numeracy skills and rates. Reduced literacy and numeracy rates
often result in a reduced ability to have meaningful, paid employment, resulting in poverty.
Increased universal education at al levels increases the ability of individuals to earn income,
reduces poverty and improves a countries ability to provide for its citizens, helping achieve
sustainable human development.

5: Gender equality
The aim of this goal is to ensure equal opportunities for both males and females in all areas of
live, including decision making and access to economic and natural resources. It aims to
recognise and value women's work at home and encourage women and girls to have equal
opportunities to be heard and have opportunities to participate in all political, economic and
public spheres.

Reason why it's important:

Millions of girls and women around the world continue to suffer discrimination and violence,
centred around family and the society. Gender equality is a fundamental right and a necessary
foundation for a peaceful, prosperous and sustainable world. Providing women and girls with
equal access to education, healthcare, decent work and representation in politics and
economics will contribute to sustainable economies and benefit societies.

6: Clean water and sanitation

The aim of this goal is to achieve universal access to safe drinking water and sanitation for all
people. It aims to improve water quality by reducing contaminants as well as increasing water
use efficiency to promote sustainability. It aims to raise awareness amongst communities to
ensure they play an active part in improving their ✳️✳water
️ management and sanitation.✳️✳️

Reason why it's important:

Millions of people around the world lack access to safe, clean water and lack sanitation,
resulting in high prevalences of preventable diseases and illnesses and high mortality rates.
particularly in children. Water scarcity, poor water quality and inadequate sanitation have a
negative impact on food security, livelihood choices and the ability to earn income and
educational opportunities for poorer families around the world.

8: Decent work and Economic growth

The aim of this goal is to achieve full and productive employment and safe and decent work for
all women and men, including those with disabilities and immigrants. It aims to reduce the
number of unemployed youth by increasing access to training and globally take action to give
more jobs to young people. It also aims to prevent and eventually eradicate forced labour as
well as all form of child labour.

Reason why it's important:

Millions of people around the world are unemployed and live below the poverty line. This
reduces their ability to access basic necessities such as food, shelter, safe water. healthcare
and education. Many children are engages in forced labour, as well as girls and women being
trafficked for their labour, therefore reducing opportunities for education and meaningful
employment.

16: Peace, Justice and strong Institutions

This goal aims to end all forms of violence and deaths relating to it by respecting and protecting
human rights to promote peaceful and inclusive societies. It aims to ensure that everyone has
equal access to justice in their country or internationally and ensure citizens are consulted and
their government make decisions with the interest of all people in mind.

Reason why it's important:

Millions of people around the world are unemployed and live outside the protection of the law.
This means that they can be exploited and have reduced ability to access education,
healthcare, meaningful and safe employment and income. Violence due to conflicts, terrorism,
corruption and war result in many people being displaced each year, contributing further to
poverty due to lack of access to services and destroyed infrastructure due to violence.
