Japan earthquake and tsunami of 2011, also called Great Sendai Earthquake or Great Tōhoku
Earthquake, severe natural disaster that occurred in northeastern Japan on March 11, 2011. The
event began with a powerful earthquake off the northeastern coast of Honshu, Japan’s main island,
which caused widespread damage on land and initiated a series of large tsunami waves that
devastated many coastal areas of the country, most notably in the Tōhoku region (northeastern
Honshu). 
Moro Gulf earthquake (1976). With a 7.9 magnitude and almost 3,000 casualties, this Mindanao
earthquake is officially the strongest and deadliest earthquake in Philippine history. Almost 40, 000
people in Regions 9 and 12 were also left homeless by this tragedy.

On August 11, 2006, the oil tanker M/T Solar 1, hired by Petron Corporation, sank off the coast of
Guimaras, an island province in the Philippines, spilling more than 2.1 million liters (about 555,000
gallons) of bunker fuel. It is still known as the worst oil spill in the Philippines' history.
MARINA allowed the vessel to ply Philippine waters despite the fact that, it was already suspended
from its class . This is highly anomalous. The New Hinase alias MT Solar 1 was suspended from its
class by Bureau Veritas from December 29, 2005 to July 2006, and yet when it was allowed to travel
and move cargo eighteen (18) 

September 25 – 26, 2009, Typhoon #16 (Ondoy) struck southwest Luzon in the Philippines. Flood
disasters caused by this heavy rainfall affected 872,097 people throughout the entire metropolitan
area, causing 241 fatalities, 394 injuries, and damaging 65,521 buildings (of which 12,563 were
completely destroyed).
