Chapter 1
INTRODUCTION
Background of the Study
In this technological era, many industries are now quickly adopting
technologies. But the adoption of technology in the restaurant industry is slower
compared to other industries. Pa Playa is one of the most popular restaurants in
Tandag City. It consists of 32 different food stalls inside the restaurant. Presently,
it caters to plenty of customers daily. With the increasing vast numbers of orders,
the food stalls in Pa Playa are experiencing challenges in preparing the food
orders and serving them to the customers on time for dine-in and take-out.
Hence, the study proposes a Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering Application
that allows customers to order foods from Pa Playa stalls online. Tandag Pa
Playa Food Online Ordering Application is a mobile web-based application that
will display the menus of food available in the stall of Pa Playa restaurants
wherein customers are allowed to order for take-out and dine-in. The system has
a QR code feature that will allow the dine-in customer to scan the menu they
want to order for an easy and accurate ordering process.
Ur Raheema (2018) stated that online food ordering is an essential tool
used for restaurants to improve the management aspect by using a computer

system to connect every food ordering transaction instead of the data record on
it. Rahman (2018) affirmed that people tend to eat foods that their friends
suggested. This can be achieved in an online food ordering system by utilizing
and integrating social media correctly. Patel (2015) proposed an online ordering
system that significantly simplifies the ordering process for both the customer
and the restaurant. The system presents an interactive and up-to-date menu with
all available options in an easy-to-use manner.
Online food ordering is the mobility of food delivery or take-out from a local
restaurant or food cooperative in a modern generation. Nowadays, the rapid
growth in the use of the internet and its associated technologies, several
opportunities are coming up on the web or mobile application. Today's customers
are not only attracted because placing an order online is very convenient but also
because they have visibility into the items offered, price, and highly simplified
navigation for the order. Based on the interview of the researchers with the Pa
Playa manager, staff, and customers, currently, Pa Paplaya doesn't have an
online ordering system. With this, the study aims to create a system that the Pa
Playa restaurant can use to give customers better services. It has a unique
feature of QR code integration that will allow the dine-in customer to scan their
chosen menu for an easy and fast ordering process.

Driven by the vision of addressing the challenges encountered by the Pa
Playa restaurant in their current food ordering system, the researchers tend to
develop a Tandag Pa Playa Online Food Ordering System.
The system will hasten the management in food preparation of the staff because
the customers can order in advance for foods they like online before going into
the restaurant for dine-in meals. The system will display the menus of the foods
available in the restaurant food stalls, and the customers can select and order
the food they want and will be delivered to them. It is made possible through an
electronic payment system and cash on delivery method. The system will help
the staff for easy tracking of orders and for a convenient way of recording
delivered orders and for boosting the revenue of their business by increasing the
demands online with the aid of the technology.

Theoretical Framework
The research is based on the new product-service system theory of
technology and innovation. Whether it’s a physical object or a services, a product
should be functional and emotional to meet the client's needs, provide value, and
be given in the manner that the consumer requested. It must also incorporate
other specific components, such as customer service. A new product is the
outcome of a fresh and distinctive concept that may satisfy customers. When
developing a new product, it's important to remember that the changes won't just
affect the product's physical appearance; they'll affect every part of it. The
difference in ideas boosts the manufacturing of various items. Different types of
goods can have a favorable impact on a company's reputation. When a new
company begins to manufacture a product that meets a customer's need, the
demand for an already existing competitor's product may be reduced. For
enterprises, the establishment of new product development (NPD) departments
and their direct influence on the manufacturing process is critical. With the
integration of technology: Food Ordering System in the business, such as
restaurant and food stalls, it would help cope in coping with the competition of
presenting new products to the customers. The study is also founded on the
Technology Acceptance Model (TAM; Davis, 1989) has been one of the most
important models of technology acceptance, with two major elements influencing

an individual's intention to utilize new technology: perceived ease of use and
perceived utility. TAM is a useful general concept that is consistent with a variety
of studies investigating the elements that influence older folks' willingness to
utilize new technologies. According to Davis, a person's attitude is not the only
thing that influences how he uses a system; it also depends on the impact it may
have on his performance. As a result, the creation of the Food Ordering system
must satisfy the customer not merely via the presentation of a new idea, but also
through its utility to the client and the user.

Figure 1 shows the input, process, and output variables of the study. The
first box represents the study's independent input variables, which focused on the
manual food ordering in Pa Playa Restaurant and the challenges encountered by
the management in the current food order process including: food preparation
problems, accuracy of orders, cancellation of orders, and on-time serving and
delivery of orders. The second box exhibits the study's process variables, which
are the conduct of interviews with the respondents and the development of the
Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering System. The last box represents the
output of the study, which is the implementation and level of acceptability of the
proposed online food ordering system.
Statement of the Problem
The study opts to develop a Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering System.
Specifically, it sought to answer the following questions:
1. What are the challenges encountered by the respondents in managing the
current Pa Playa food ordering process?
2. What system can be proposed to address the challenges met by the
respondents?
3. What is the level of acceptability of the proposed system in terms of:

Objective of the Study
The study aims to develop a Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering Mobile
Web-based System that will provide a fast and convenient way of managing
restaurant food order transactions. It purposes explicitly to:
1. Identify the challenges encountered by the respondents in the manual
ordering process of Pa Playa Tandag City.
2. Develop a user-friendly mobile web-based food online ordering mobile
web-based system for Pa Playa Tandag city that will allow customers to
reserve and order a special menu for dine-in and delivery.
3. Determine the level of acceptability of the information system in terms of
usefulness, accessibility, and user satisfaction.

Scope and Limitation of the Study
Scope
The study focuses on developing the Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering
System that will provide a convenient and fast way of managing the orders of the
customers. The customer must first create an account to order foods in the
system. It has QR Code features that will allow the dine-in customers to scan the
QR code of the website from every food stall for a fast and accurate ordering
process. The mobile web application has two users: the admin, vendor and the
customer.
Limitation
The system is limited to the following:
1. Only dine-in customers could use the QR code features of the system.
2. The delivery service is limited to the Tandag city area.
3. The system can only be accessed by the customers online.
4. The system will not generate graphical reports of orders records.
5. The system is only accessible online.

The study will be conducted during the first and second semesters of the school
year 2021-2022.
Significance of the Study
The study is seen to contribute significance to the following:
To Pa Playa Tandag. The system will be an excellent tool for a convenient way
of managing the customers' orders online, and it will help increase the food
orders of the restaurant. It will help the staff to give better service to the
customers.
To the Customer. The customer could now see the menu available in Pa Playa
restaurant and order the food they like quickly and accurately.
To Staff. The system could be a great help in increasing customers in the city by
providing a quality service.
To the Owner. With the aid of the system, the Pa Playa Tandag will be known or
more visible in the community for having a good service.
Definition of Terms
For better understanding about the terms that have been used in this study, here
are the terms with definitions cited:

Administrator - The person who controls the system and is responsible for
managing the system.
Android Application - Is software that performs specific tasks for an end-user.
Android applications are a software application running on the android platform.
Food Stall- A compartment or structure used to prepare and sell food to the
general public.
Tandag City- It is the capital city of Surigao del Sur wherein the Pa Playa
restaurant is located.
Pa Playa Tandag- Is a restaurant located in Tandag city which consists of 32
food stalls and offers various foods in the city.
Tandag Pa Playa Online Food Ordering Application- Is a web-based
application that allows customers to order food online quickly and conveniently.
QR code- It is short for Quick Response, QR codes are a type of barcode easily
readable with digital devices like smartphones.
Menu Management- It allows the restaurant to control what can be ordered by
the customers.

CHAPTER II
REVIEW OF RELATED LITERATURE AND STUDY
This chapter contains the review of related literature and studies that
provide relevant knowledge and information to enrich and give light to the
present study. This chapter has two sections such as related literature and
related studies. Each unit is divided into two subsections such as local and
foreign, to facilitate comprehensive data gathering.
Related Literature
Foreign
An online food ordering system can be defined as software that allows
restaurant businesses to accept and manage orders placed over the internet.
Online ordering systems generally consist of 2 main components. First is a
website or mobile app for hungry customers to view the restaurant's dishes and
place an online order. Second is an admin management interface for the
restaurants to receive and manage the customer's orders (Cloudwaitress, 2019)
With the rise in online orders, it becomes essential that the ordering
system in restaurants is integrated with online ordering. The point of sale (POS)
has now evolved to become an integrated restaurant ordering system that can

accept and process orders online apart from facilitating manual order taking
(POSIST, 2021). A clever restaurant ordering system can handle all aspects of
restaurant order administration. It's a streamlined system that accepts orders
from many channels. Overall business growth is aided by a well-designed
restaurant ordering system.
Pomelopay (2020) stated that implementing an online ordering system -
sometimes called virtual ordering or contactless table ordering - is one of the best
ways to turn a website into a customer acquisition channel. By setting up your
own online shop, you can start taking online orders by setting up your own online
shop. You've then opened up a new channel to cater to new and repeat
customers! An online ordering system can be used to take online orders, but it
can also be used to take in-person orders to make the ordering process more
efficient.
Local
The online food delivery service is in the limelight nowadays as the O2O
e-commerce industry is extending its range to the food. Beyond the food ordering
system where only fast food was accommodated to be delivered to customer’s
doorstep, thousands of different foods from various restaurants can be delivered
with just one click through the online food delivery (OFD) App. With its fast

growth, it is inevitable to avoid some issues among the major stakeholders - the
App firm, couriers, and customers.(Lim & Noroña, 2021)
(Gomez, 2019) stated that restaurant has a centralized tipping policy; this
function will help compute the tips based on the days and time they work to have
a fair division of tips. Moreover, for further improvements, data visualization
techniques to allow analysts to more easily derive insights about data and make
wise decisions must be incorporated.
Computerize presentation of data of the restaurant, including the menu and
special orders.
Related Study
Foreign
Jiuan et al., (2019) developed a restaurant ordering system to benefit the
restaurant by reducing the workload of the staff. This restaurant ordering system
solves many problems of traditional ordering systems. The first objective of this
system is to develop a system that includes the preparation time of food. In this
system, the customers can view the preparation time of food. Therefore, they can
plan their schedule wisely after their lunch or dinner. Furthermore, it allows the
customer to cancel their order in a less hassle and fast way. When the chef has
not yet started to prepare their food, the customers are allowed to cancel their

order. This can increase the satisfaction of the customers. However, there is no
QR code feature embedded in the system created by the mentioned researcher.
He stated that the system will be improved and developed with the QR code
feature.
Chavan et al., (2015) presented digital restaurants and inter-restaurant
navigation using smartphones to customers. Instead of using PDAs to interface
with customers, researchers used smartphones or tablets to provide necessary
interfaces for customers to view and order menus. With a private login system,
customers can view and make orders, receive updates in real-time and collect
receipts right from the smartphone. It allows customers to navigate the places or
directions in a restaurant. It allows restaurant owners to manage orders from
customers immediately whenever they log in the system. The researcher’s
experience in developing digital restaurants and inter restaurant navigation using
smartphones shows the capabilities of wireless communication and smartphone
technology in fulfilling and improving business management and service delivery.
This system is convenient, effective and easy to improve the performance of
restaurant’s staff.
Patel (2015) created an online food ordering system that allows hotels and
restaurants to increase scope of business by reducing the labor cost involved.
The system also allows users to quickly and easily manage an online menu

which customers can browse and use to place orders with just a few clicks.
Restaurant employees then use these orders through an easy to navigate
graphical interface for efficient processing. However, delivery options, order
status, and order process estimate features were yet to be included in the system
created.
Trupthi et al., (2019) developed an online food ordering system where the
customers can make an order for the food and avoid the hassles of waiting for
the order to be taken by the waiter. The end users register online using the
application, read the E-menu card and select the food from the e-menu card to
order food online. Once the customer selects the required food item the chef will
be able to see the results on the screen and start processing the food. This
application nullifies the need of a waiter or reduces the workload of the waiter.
The advantage is that in a crowded restaurant there will be chances that the
waiters are overloaded with orders and they are unable to meet the requirements
of the customer in a satisfactory manner. Therefore, by using this application, the
users can directly place the order for food to the chef online
Local
Garcia et al. (2018) created an android application in the food ordering
system that allows the customers to order food in the school cafeteria without
lining up in the school’s dining hall, which saves the students a lot of their time

and energy. The order can be made anywhere as long as the device used by the
customer is connected to an internet connection. In this research, the
“cAPPeteria '' contains a given fixed set of food choices saved in the customer’s
device and has the ability to transfer the data through the barcode that is
generated using a ZXing library. The barcode formed will be scanned by the
device B in the counter able to decode the data, and then payment will be made.
However, the barcode scanning process can be improved if it is done using a
different device. It can be a real bar code scanner device that is found in stores
for more accurate and fast speed scanning.
Intal et al. (2020) developed a Restaurant Information System with QR
Code to improve the service quality of a casual fine dining restaurant in terms of
fast ordering and payment. Issues on Responsiveness will therefore be
addressed. Errors in order taking may be prevented. The reports that the system
will generate will also aid the management in decision making as and plan for
sales and marketing strategies. Furthermore, the researchers also recommend a
function that can monitor the employees’ payroll and tips. This function will
definitely help to automate the manual recording of payroll every month. This can
lessen the errors and make sure that the recording and computation of absences
and leaves can be easily generated.

Based on the review of related literature, the advent of new technologies
has resulted in the development of a food ordering system which aims to ease
the challenges encountered by the restaurants in managing the orders of
customers. With the rise in online orders, it becomes essential that the ordering
system is integrated with online ordering. The emergence of Covid-19 virus has
made a drastic increase in the demand of the online ordering system. The
customers now prefer the online ordering system as they can view the menus of
the restaurant without physically going to the restaurant. It saves time and effort
of the customer and it makes the orders accurate and fast.
Based on the review of related studies, there are studies conducted on
developing an online food ordering System in other countries as well as in the
Philippines. However, the system is still improving to be more secure, safe, and
accurate with the need of integration of other technological features. The
common goal of the researchers in developing the food ordering system is to
manage the orders in the restaurant in an accurate, convenient and safe manner.
With the development of online food ordering system, the customers in the
restaurants increases and there is customers' safety against the spread of Covid-
19 because they could order foods online with the use of the system.
CHAPTER III
RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

This chapter covers the research methodology of the study. It includes the
research design, research locale, research respondents, data gathering
procedure, and the statistical treatment. This chapter also presents the system
materials, system flow, Gant chart, teams’ responsibilities, and the budget cost of
the study.
Research Design
The researchers used the modified waterfall model under Standard
System Development Life Cycle (SDLC). The stages in this model have
connections to each other. The system development process model is broken
down into different phases. The primary stages of system development
processes are as follows: requirement gathering, system analysis, design,
testing, implementation, operation, and maintenance.
Planning Phase
The proponents gathered data from the Pa Playa Tandag restaurant
regarding on their current ordering process and the challenges encountered in
the current manual process.
Analysis Phase

After the researchers gathered the information, the proponents figured out
a solution for their current manual process.
Design Phase
In this phase, the proponents developed a design of the system that will
provide the needs of the Pa Playa restaurant in addressing the challenges they
have encountered. The proponents also decided to integrate a QR code interface
for a more accurate order process. After the chosen design & features of the
system, the proponents start developing the system.
Coding Phase
In this phase, the researchers program the proposed system and follow
specific coding requirements.
Testing Phase
In this phase, the researcher will test the input and output of the system to
determine if the system gives the correct operation that is provided. The
researcher invited the customer, vendors and admin of Pa Playa stalls to test and
rate the system.
Implementing Phase

In this phase, the system is already developed and tested. If it is efficient
and effective it will be implemented to the Pa Playa stalls for observation.
Maintenance Phase
The system requires maintenance every six months to keep its
functionality on track and deliver excellent service for its customers.

Research Locale
The study will be conducted at Pa Playa restaurant located in Tandag city,
Surigao del Sur. The researchers chose the Pa Playa restaurant Tandag,
because it is one of the popular restaurants in Tandag with plenty of orders per
day and currently the restaurant doesn’t have a food ordering system and is
experiencing challenges on catering plenty food orders daily.
Respondents of the Study
The respondents of the study are the manager, staff, and customers of Pa
Playa restaurant in Tandag city. The system will be designed based on the
challenges and needs of the respondents.
Data Gathering Procedure
The researchers will seek first permission from the school noted by the
adviser to conduct an interview with the Pa Playa manager and staff about the
challenges they have encountered in managing the daily food orders. Upon
approval, the proponents will conduct an interview with the respondents to gather
the data needed in the development of the proposed system. The proponents will
also solicit for suggestions on addressing the challenges they have experienced
to provide quality services to the customers. The data gathered will be a
necessary basis for the development of the proposed system.

Ethical Consideration
The researchers will guarantee that all appropriate lines of communication
with respondents are maintained while conducting the study. In compliance with
the Data Privacy Act, researchers will verify that residents have been fully
informed and are willing to engage in the study (RA 10173). The survey's
conduct ensures that the environment and citizens are not harmed. The
respondents' security and confidentiality were equally important to the
researchers. The information gathered will be relevant, credible, and valid, and
will be used and applied in research without releasing information gathered
outside of the study. The researchers will make every effort to maintain a positive
relationship with the respondents.
Statistical Treatment
The data collected will be subjected to statistical treatment with the help of
the researcher's statistician. The researchers utilized the following statistical
treatment to interpret the data effectively: The Weighted Mean and Average
Weighted Mean.
The researchers will use the Average Weighted Mean to determine the
respondents' assessment regarding system consistency, learnability, user
guidance, system capability, efficiency, usefulness, and satisfaction.

The administrator can load the order in Figure 3 to examine the
detailed information, such as the food dishes, quantity, pricing, and client
information. The administrator can also look up the food menu, store customer
orders, delete vendors and customer accounts, keep track of orders and
payments, and monitor the status of customer and vendor information.

CHAPTER IV
RESULTS AND DISCUSSION
This chapter presents the tabulation, analysis, and interpretation of the
data gathered from the survey conducted using a research questionnaire for the
level of acceptability.
A. Challenges encountered in managing the current Pa Playa food
ordering process
1. Difficulty in preparing the food orders and serving them to the
customers on time for dine-in and take-out.
2. Difficulty in tracking order for takeout
3. Delay in serving foods due to massive order request
4. Difficulty in consolidating daily sales
5. Difficulty in producing graphical data of the restaurant orders.
B. Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering Mobile Web-based System
Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering Mobile Web-based System allows
customers to order foods from Pa Playa stalls online. It is an Online Ordering
Application that is mobile web-based which displays the menus of food available

in the stall of Pa Playa restaurants wherein customers are allowed to order for
take-out and dine-in. The system includes a QR code function that allows dine-in
customers to scan the website throughout the ordering process for a quick and
precise order. The system hastens the management in food preparation of the
staff because the customers can order in advance for foods they like online
before going into the restaurant for dine-in meals. It has a special feature of
electronic payment system and cash on delivery method. The system helps the
staff for easy tracking of orders and for a convenient way of recording delivered
orders and for boosting the revenue of their business by increasing the demands
online with the aid of the technology.
C. Level of Acceptability of the Proposed System in terms of Functional
Stability, Performance Efficiency, Compatibility, Usability, and Security.
Table 6 presents the level of acceptability of Tandag Pa Playa Food

Ordering Web-Based System. The table displays the indicators of acceptability,
weighted mean, and adjectival rating of the data.

accepted by the respondents as to its functional stability, performance efficiency,
compatibility, usability, and security. In terms of functional sustainability, the
system has 4.45 weighted mean with an adjectival rating of Highly Acceptable.
This result means that Tandag Pa Playa Food Ordering Web-Based System has

software that makes it easier to fulfill specific activities and goals (4.51) and it
produces accurate results with the required precision (4.4).
On the other hand, the system received the least weighted mean of 4.18
with an adjectival rating of moderately acceptable on its performance efficiency.
This result implies that the system needs enhancement to fully attain its
performance efficiency. Specifically, it should be enhanced to make the system's
performance rate efficient and systems can perform it function effectively.
Moreover, in terms of compatibility the respondents perceived the system

as highly acceptable with a weighted mean of 4.54. This result means that the
system performs its required functions efficiently while sharing a common
environment and resources with other products, without detrimental impact on
any other product. The usability of the system has a weighted mean of 4.57 with
adjectival rating of highly acceptable. This result implies that the system is very
useful to the respondents because it helps address the challenges they have
encountered in the manual food ordering process.
Furthermore, the system gained 4.53 total weighted mean with an

adjectival rating of highly acceptable in terms of security. This result indicates
that the system ensures that data is only available to those who have been
granted access. This further implies that the system is secure and it exhibits
confidentiality. With the high overall total mean it can be deduced that the system
is highly accepted for implementation.

SUMMARY OF FINDINGS, CONCLUSION AND RECOMMENDATIONS
This chapter presents the tabulation, analysis and conclusions made and
the recommendations offered based on the result obtained from the study
conducted.
Summary of Findings
1. The current manual ordering process of Tandag Pa Playa restaurant
posed Difficulty in preparing the food orders, tracking, consolidating daily
sales, producing graphical data of the restaurant orders, and delay in
serving foods due to massive order request.
2. Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering Application is a web-based mobile
system that allows customers to order foods from Pa Playa stalls. It
displays the menus of food available in the stall of Pa Playa restaurants
wherein customers are allowed to order for take-out and dine-in. It has a
special feature of electronic payment system and cash on delivery
method. The system can also track and monitor the orders of the
restaurant.
3. Based on the survey conducted, Tandag Pa Playa Food Online Ordering
Mobile Web-based System gained an overall weighted mean of 4.45 with
adjectival rating of highly acceptable. This result implies that Tandag Pa

the restaurant. It is a mobile web-based system that allows customers to order
foods from Pa Playa stalls online. It displays the menus of food available in the
stall of Pa Playa restaurants wherein customers are allowed to order for take-out
and dine-in. The system includes a QR code function that allows dine-in
customers to scan the website throughout the ordering process for a quick and
precise order. The system can also track and monitor the orders of the
restaurant. The system needs further enhancement to make the system's
performance rate efficient and can perform its function effectively.

Recommendations
Based on the findings and conclusions of the study, the following

recommendations are presented:
1. The researchers may consider presenting the developed system to the

Tandag Pa Playa for its implementation.
2. The researchers may consider giving a training session on the use of the

3. The researchers may improve the system to attain the full system's
performance rate efficiently and can perform its function effectively.
4. The future researcher may connect the system to a delivery app for fast
and easy delivery of orders.
5. The system may add ChatApp and forum in the system to connect more to
the customer and easily recommendation of services.
