DEWATERING SYSTEM

OPEN PUMPING Dewatering Method

In this dewatering method the ground water is allowed to flow into the dug hole, then pumped out through a well /
reservoir in the bottom of the quarry.
This Open Pumping method is used when:
• Soil characteristics are dense, well-graded, cohesive soils
• Amount of water to be pumped is not large (discharge)
• Can be made wells / reservoirs for pumps.
• The error is not deep.
Implementation of the Open Pumping Method:
• Prepare a drainage channel for pumping groundwater from before excavation begins.
• The excavation is carried out to the depth of the plan, if it has not reached the depth of the plan that
has been flooded with enough water to disrupt the excavation work, the excavation is carried out in
stages.
• At each stage of excavation, a small well / water reservoir is made for the suction pump.
• In the well / water reservoir ditch, a pump is installed for drying (submersible pumps are better than
ordinary pumps).
• If the excavation depth exceeds the suction lift capacity of the pump, pumping can be reduced
• If the excavation is very extensive, it can be done in stages. And making wells / gutters in several places.
Excavation with a very large area, then the stages are made as follows:
• Land is dug to the level of groundwater in all excavated areas with a Bulldozer / Excavator.
• Around the edges of the quarry are made ditches with greater depths than the elevation of the
excavation base, using excavators or clampshells.
• This procedure can simultaneously control the lateral seepage into the reservoir located around the
edge of the excavation.
