 The Government of India will organise the first-ever ‘The India Toy Fair, 2021′ from February 27, 2021 to
March 02, 2021 on a virtual platform.
The official website for India Toy Fair-2021 is www.theindiatoyfair.in.
 Defence Minister Rajnath Singh recently launched an online portal ‘e-Chhawani’ and mobile app, to
facilitate ‘ease of living’ and ‘ease of doing’ for the residents of the Cantonment Boards across the
country.
 Centre Launches new Instant Messaging platform ‘Sandes’, on lines of WhatsApp

 State-owned Punjab National Bank (PNB) has decided to restrict its customers from withdrawing money
from non-EMV automated teller machines (ATMs) with effect from 01 February 2021, in an attempt to
check frauds, related to money transactions.
 The Reserve Bank of India in its Monetary Policy Committee (MPC) meet held between February 3-5,
2021 has kept the policy rates unchanged as under:
Policy Repo Rate- 4.00%
Reverse Repo Rate- 3.35%
Marginal Standing Facility Rate- 4.25%
Bank Rate- 4.25%
CRR- 3%
SLR- 18.00%
The MPC continued to maintain the accommodative stance.
The MPC has predicted the economic growth rate i.e. GDP growth rate of India at 10.5 percent in 2021-
22 (FY22)
 Federal Bank launches ‘FedFirst’ savings account scheme for children
 RBI Organises Financial Literacy Week from February 8-12, 2021.
The theme for 2021 FLW is ”Credit Discipline and Credit from Formal Institutions”.
 The New Development Bank (NDB) has committed to invest USD 100 million (Rs 727.6 crore), into the
NIIF Fund of Funds (FoF).
With NDB’s investment, the total commitments secured by the FoF has reached $800 million (about Rs
5,820 crore).
 The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has brought State Bank of Sikkim under its regul atory purview, on
February 22, 2021.
Till now, RBI had the right and obligation to function as banker to all the state government except for
the state government of Sikkim.

Now the bank will be regulated by the RBI on a par with other banks, however the b ank’s ownership
structure will not change.
 The State Bank of India has tied up with JPMorgan to use the blockchain technology “Liink” of the US-
based bank to speed up overseas transactions.
With this, SBI has become the first bank in India to go live on the blockchain-based payment network of
JPMorgan.

GDP Rate projections


 The State Bank of India’s (SBI) Economic Research Department has revised GDP estimates of India for
FY21 to contract 7.0%. Earlier this was estimated GDP at -7.4%.
The SBI Research Report has retained its GDP forecast for FY22 at 11 percent.

 The Union Minister of State (IC) for Tourism & Culture, Shri Prahlad Singh Patel inaugurated the 10th
Annual Convention-cum-Exhibition of Association of Domestic Tour Operators of India (ADTOI) at the
Statue of Unity (SOU) in Kevadia, Gujarat.
The three-day event has been organised from February 12 to 14, 2021.
The theme of the convention is ‘Domestic Tourism – Hope for the revival- Dekho Apna Desh’.
 For the first time in its history, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has opened its UR Rao
Satellite Centre in Bengaluru for testing satellites developed by the private sector.
Two satellites, developed by the Indian startups SpaceKidz India and Pixxel (incorporated as Sygyzy)
were tested at the UR Rao Satellite Centre.
 Skills Development Ministry launches Mahatma Gandhi National Fe llowship in partnership with IIMs
 ‘Covid Warrior Memorial’ to be established at Biju Patnaik Park in Bhubaneswar
 PM Modi visits Tamil Nadu to inaugurate and lay foundation stone of multiple projects
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi visited Tamil Nadu on 14 February, 2021, where he inaugurated and
laid the foundation stones for several key projects.
PM also handed over the State-of-the-Art Arjun Main Battle Tank (MK-1A) to the Indian Army at
Chennai.
The state- of-the-art tank, has been indigenously designed, developed, and manufactured by DRDO’s
Combat Vehicles Research and Development Establishment.
Projects inaugurated includes:
The Chennai Metro Rail Phase-I extension, completed at a cost of Rs. 3770 crore
The fourth Railway line between Chennai Beach and Attipattu, laid at a cost of Rs.293.40 crore
The Railway Electrification of single line section in Villupuram – Cuddalore – Mayiladuthurai – Thanjavur
and Mayiladuthurai-Thiruvarur, completed at a cost of Rs. 423 crore.
Projects whose foundation stone were laid includes:
Extension, renovation and modernization of the Grand Anicut Canal System – cost Rs.2,640 crore.
Discovery Campus of IIT Madras – The Campus will be built at Thaiyur near Chennai at an estimated cost
of Rs.1000 crore in the first phase, over an area of 2 lakh sqm.

 PM Modi Visits Kerala to dedicate to the nation and lay foundation stone of multiple projects
Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi was on a day long visit to Kochi in Kerala on 14 February, 2021 to lay
the foundation stone and dedicate various projects to the nation.
During his visit, PM laid the foundation stone of Reconstruction of South Coal Berth at Cochin Port Trust.
The port is being reconstructed at an estimated cost of Rs 19.19 crore under the Sagarmala Scheme.
Projects dedicated to the nation includes:

The Propylene Derivative Petrochemical Project (PDPP), developed by the Bharat Petroleum Corporation
Limited (BPCL) at a capital cost of about Rs 6000 crore.
The complex will produce Acrylates, Acrylic Acid and Oxo-Alcohol, which are at current scenario
imported from other nations.
The Ro-Ro Vessels of Inland Waterways at Willingdon Islands, Cochin
The International Cruise Terminal “Sagarika” at Cochin Port Trust, constructed at a cost of Rs.25.72
crore.
The Marine Engineering Training Institute, Vigyana Sagar, Cochin Shipyard Ltd, constructed at a capital
cost of Rs 27.5 crore
 Famous Mandu Festival Begins in Madhya Pradesh
 The World Bank has released a comprehensive report titled ‘Traffic Crash Injuries and Disabilities: The
Burden on Indian Society’ in association with the SaveLife Foundation, an independent, non-profit,
non-governmental organization committed to improving road safety and emergency medical care across
India.

 PM Modi dedicates to the nation and lays foundation stone of key projects of oil and gas sector in Tamil
Nadu
On February 17, 2021, Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi dedicated to the nation and laid the
foundation of key projects of the oil and gas sector in Tamil Nadu via video conferencing.
PM Modi laid the foundation stone of Cauvery Basin Refinery at Nagapattinam. It will have a capacity of
9 million metric tonnes per annum, and will be set up through a Joint Venture of IOCL and CPCL at an
estimated project cost of Rs. 31,500 crore.
Among the projects dedicated were :

143 km Ramanathapuram – Thoothukudi natural gas pipeline of ONGC laid at the cost of about Rs. 700

 PM Modi launches ‘Mahabahu-Brahmaputra’ initiative and lays foundation stone of two bridges in
Assam
The Prime Minister of India, Shri Narendra Modi launched multiple development initiatives in Assam on
18 February 2021 via video conferencing.
PM launched the Mahabahu-Brahmaputra inland waterway project, laid the foundation stone of Dhubri
Phulbari Bridge along with Bhumi Pujan for construction of Majuli Bridge, across the Brahmaputra.
Mahabahu-Brahmaputra

The Rs 3,200 crore Mahabahu-Brahmaputra initiative is aimed at improving road, waterways and digital
connectivity in Assam.
To launch the new initiative, PM Modi inaugurated three Ro-pax vessel operations between Neemati
Ghat (Jorhat) and Majuli Island, North Guwahati and South Guwahati as well as Dhubri and Hatsingimari.
He also laid the foundation stone of Inland Water Transport (IWT) Terminal at Jogighopa and various
tourist jetties on the River Brahmaputra.
PM launched two portals to provide digital solutions for Ease -of-Doing-Business.
Car-D (Cargo Data) portal – to provide cargo and cruise data on a real time basis
PANI (Portal for Asset and Navigation Information) – to act as a one-stop solution for providing
information about river navigation and infrastructure.
Dhubri Phulbari Bridge

The 19 km long four lane bridge over the Brahmaputra between Dhubri (on North Bank) and Phulbari
(on South Bank) will be built with a total cost of approx Rs. 4997 cr, It will be India’s longest bridge over
a river.
Majuli Bridge

PM performed the bhumi pujan (ground-breaking ceremony) for a 6.8-km-long two-lane bridge that
would connect Kamalabari in Majuli, the world’s largest river island to Neematighat in Jorhat.

 In Madhya Pradesh, the state health department has launched a Social awareness campaign called
‘Social Awareness and Action to Neutralise Pneumonia Successfully (‘SAANS’), to curb infant mortality or
death rate due to pneumonia.
 The state government of Madhya Pradesh has launched a water conservation campaign called
‘Jalabhishekam’, under which more than 57,000 water structures has been constructed. These water
structures costs over Rs. 2,000 crore and will irrigate 2.50 lakh hectares of land without submerging an

 In Puducherry, a campaign has been launched titled “Zero Covid by Feb28” to ensure that there is no
COVID-19 cases by the end of February 2021, in the union territory.
 The Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs has launched the Pilot Pey Jal Survekshan under Jal Jeevan
Mission- Urban, JJM-U on February 16, 2021.
The Pilot Pey Jal Survekshan has been launched in 10 cities, which are Agra, Badlapur, Bhubaneswar,
Churu, Kochi, Madurai, Patiala, Rohtak, Surat and Tumkur.
Objective: to ascertain equitable distribution of water, reuse of wastewater and mapping of water
bodies with respect to quantity and quality of water through a challenge process.

 The Union Cabinet has approved a production-linked incentive (PLI) scheme worth Rs 12,195 crore for
telecom equipment and networking product manufacturing.
Through this decision, the government aims to offset the imports of telecom equipment worth more
than Rs 50,000 crore and reinforce it with “Made in India” products both for domestic markets and
exports.
 Health Minister Harch Vardhan launches Mission Indradhanush 3.0 to expand immunization coverage
across the country.
The focus of IMI 3.0 will be on children and pregnant women who missed their vaccine doses during the
COVID-19 pandemic.
 Centre Launches National Urban Digital Mission to create Digital Infra for Cities. The mission aims to pu t
in place a “citizen-centric” and “ecosystem-driven” approach to ‘urban governance and service delivery’
in cities by 2022, and across all cities and towns by 2024.
The mission has three pillars – people, process, and platform.

 Sports Minister Kiren Rijiju launches first Reference Material synthesized by NDTL and NIPER to
strengthen anti-doping measures
The Union Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports Kiren Rijiju recently launched a Reference Material, for use
in the anti-doping field for chemical testing.
This RM is jointly synthesized by the National Dope Testing Laboratory (NDTL) and the National Institute
of Pharmaceutical Education and Research (NIPER), Guwahati.
About RM

This first-of-its kind RM is a rarely available substance globally and while testing of a sample, the RM will
provide identity confirmation for prohibited substances which do not have threshold limits.
This would be used to strengthen anti-doping measures in all World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)
accredited labs.
It is one of the 20 RMs, that will be produced by NDTL and NIPER-G.
NDTL and NIPER-G had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in August 2020 to synthesize 20
rare RMs over three years.
It has been decided to distribute 5mg of this indigenously developed RM to all the WADA -accredited
dope testing laboratories, free of cost.
