VCE Music Performance Units 1&2

Course Outline 2022

Unit 1

 Outcome 1 – Performance
- You will prepare and perform 2 contrasting works in class: 1 solo, 1 as a
part of a duo or small group (10 minutes max.)
- You will perform as part of an MHS ensemble at Family Concert
- The recitals will be held as close to the Semester 1 exam period as
possible; this may include lunchtime recitals
 Outcome 2 – Performance Technique
- You will prepare and perform 3 exercises from technique books written
specifically for your instrument based upon your Unit 1 recital pieces
- You will create 3 technical exercises based upon your recital program
that you will prepare and perform
- You will submit a discussion of your technical exercises: how you came
to create them; how they are useful to the performance of your
program. This may be a written, video or PowerPoint presentation
 Outcome 3 – Aural, Theory and Analysis
- You will identify aurally intervals, scales, chord progressions; and
transcribe melodies and rhythms in an exam
- You will write intervals, scales, chords in an exam
- You will listen to and analyse music in an exam
Unit 2

 Outcome 1 – Performance
- You will prepare and perform 2 Contrasting works in class, 1 solo, 1 as a
part of a duo / small group (10 minutes max. – different to Unit 1)
- You will perform as part of an MHS ensemble at Spring Concert
- The recitals will be held as close to the Semester 2 exam period as
possible, this may include lunchtime recitals
 Outcome 2 – Performance Technique
- You will prepare and perform 3 exercises from technique books for your
instrument based upon your Unit 2 recital pieces
- You will create 3 technical exercises based upon your recital program
that you will prepare and perform
