Early Childhood Studies: CLD 161 Field Education Learning Plan

Name: Sharukhan Janarthanan Student number:

Date: June 1st 2022 Plan number: 4

Age group: Preschool Title of activity: Outdoor Observation (Dramatic)

Observation
1) What do the children already know AND what do they want to know more about?

Observation:
During our time indoors, the children enjoy looking through the binoculars and investigating the classroom for various materials. Child A
responds by saying, "Wow, I can see everything from so far, Sharu look." "I can see so much and so far with the binoculars," Child B stated
after looking through them with myself. The children also enjoy travelling together for example, Child A mentioned “let's go to rainbow world”
and Child B&C cheered with excitement and travelled to the rainbow world.
Interpretation:
When the children use the binoculars to look around the classroom, they seem intrigued by how much closer the views appear than they are. The
children enjoy exploring new locations and learning about the unique characteristics that each one has to offer. As a result, having the children
roam around the yard like tourists and sightsee different spots in the playground allows them to feel more connected to nature and replicate the
role of someone sightseeing.

2) How will your activity build on the children’s interests?

By including binoculars in my activity, the children will be able to play the role of a traveller visiting an outdoor place from a different
perspective. The children will start by taking a tour of the area and painting what they see.

Planning
3) Briefly describe the intentional experience that you will plan to support children’s learning of the inquiry they are
exploring and investigating.

Outdoor Observation
Outdoor Observation is a dramatic, sensory and art experience that allows children to get insight into a tourist role while also exploring the
outdoors. The children take a tour around the playground and then paint a picture of what they saw. This experience will allow the children to
2

feel more connected to the environment while also allowing them to play the role of a visitor visiting a new destination.

4) Experience Planning Outline

Describe the opening, middle and closing of the experience.

to finish a painting based on what they saw on
their journey.

5) Describe your role in supporting children's engagement with this experience.

My role in the learning activity will be to actively participate alongside the children throughout the activity in order to boost engagement when
directing the tour and allowing them to explore in order to later make an artifact. I hope that by completing this activity, the children would learn
to appreciate nature while exploring as tourists.
