Students will be declared COMPETENT or NOT YET COMPETENT and
for specific subjects will be graded as below:
DEFINITION OF COMPETENT (C)

Distinction A high level of achievement in all competencies, but excellent achievement in the
90 % and majority of competencies. The student has an extensive knowledge and
understanding of the course content and can readily apply this knowledge.

course content and competence in the processes and skills of the course.

Pass Satisfactory achievement in all competencies. The student has demonstrated


70% and above an acceptable level of knowledge and understanding of the course content
and has achieved a basic level of competence in the processes and skills
of the course.
DEFINITION OF NOT YET COMPETENT (NYC)

Elementary or partial achievement in the course. The student has an elementary


69% and below knowledge of the course content and has demonstrated limited competence in some
of the processes and skills of the course. For results 63%-69% a re-sit exam can be
taken on Friday of week 2 of the following term.

Factors contributing to grades


Grades are awarded based on the timely completion of assigned tasks, contribution to class
discussions, and consistent participation in class activities. Regular attendance and punctuality
will also be considered towards all class participation marks.

To pass this subject, all activities should be completed at a satisfactory level, and each
assessment task deemed competent. Your teacher reserves the right to exercise discretion in
recommending grades.

Late Submissions
• Application for late submission of an assessment task should be made in writing and
addressed to your teacher. You are required to state the reason/s for late submission of
an assessment task and attach any supporting documentation.
• Under NO circumstances will failure of computer software/hardware be accepted as a
valid reason for late submission and the granting of an extension.
• The teacher reserves the right to refuse a request for extension irrespective of the reason
given.
• Assessment tasks submitted after the due date and without proper approval will be subject
to the following penalties:

Assessment Policy
• You must be present in class on the day an assignment is due. Teachers will not
accept assignments if you are not present in class unless for medical reasons
(supported with a medical certificate) or other reason/s deemed acceptable by
the teacher.
• You must negotiate with the subject teacher any late submissions as the result of
illness or other reasons.
• It is strongly advised that you do not sit a final examination if you are sick or hold a
current medical certificate. No consideration will be given for illness when the
examination is being marked.
• Other assessment tasks (not including formal tests/examination/s), which receive a mark
less than 70%, will need to be resubmitted for marking. You will only receive a
maximum of 70% for this assessment task.
• The College will not accept work that is plagiarised. All work taken from other sources
must be acknowledged through references and bibliography. Any assessment task
submitted for marking will be returned to you, unmarked and for resubmission. You
will only receive a maximum of 70% for this assessment task.
• If you are found cheating in any assessment task you will be failed immediately
in that subject and will have to repeat the whole subject at a later date subject
to timetabling.
• All post exams will be held on the Friday of Week 2 of the following term. If a subject
is held in the first 5 weeks of term (Block A), post exams will be held in week 7 of the
current term.
• If you do not attend the post assessment without notice and do not submit a
medical certificate you will fail the subject.

Note: All assessment tasks set by the lecturer require a 70% to pass the subject

Medical Certificates
If you are ill for any assessment, please notify the office and you are required to submit a
medical certificate prior to sitting for the assessment.

The College will accept medical certificates only by the next lesson attended by the student.

ALL medical certificates need to be shown to teachers who will sign and date them, then
record on the class rolls for attendance. Once all teachers have signed off, the medical
certificate/s need to be brought down to Reception on Level 1 for filing.

Absences
If you are absent from classes or running late, it is important that you telephone the College. You
should not text message or have another student telephone the College on your behalf.
