Assessment
1. Scanning-
- a technique wherein students search for
keywords or ideas.
- quickly reading a text to get the summary of it.
Example: list down all the major and minor
characters in the Canadian philosophical novel
“The Life of Pi” by Yann Martel within 15 minutes.
2. Skimming
-It can save you hours of laborious reading.
-It is very useful as a preview to a more detailed
reading or when reviewing a selection heavy in
content.
-Important points may be missed for rapid reading
or perhaps even study reading may be
necessary.
3. Extensive reading-
- The reader’s view and review of unfamiliar
words in a specific context will allow the reader to
infer the word’s meaning, to learn unknown
words.
example: choose a novel to read, and
after a week, share to the class the reader’s
experiences and realizations upon reading

5. “The Diary of a Wimpy Kid”
- It chronicles the experiences of Greg Heffley as
he went through his first year of middle school.
6. Characteristics that BEST describe Harry Potter
in J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter books

8. Plot- a movement in time when the story
transpires on a particular period of time such as
an hour, a day, a week, a month or even a year

scandal that is kept secret
10. The 21st century demand that a literate person
possesses a wide range of abilities and
competencies because Technology has
increased the intensity and complexity of literate
environments.
11. The readers can benefit from images to interpret
the entire story.
Example:Lord of the Rings” by J.R.R.
Tolkien gets an illustrated version since its
publication in 1954

12. Difference between a short story and a flash
fiction?
-The short story is shorter than a novel,
and the flash fiction is shorter than a short story.
-The short story can have 1000-10,000
words in length, while flash fiction is composed of
only 100-1000 words.
-The short story has more space to
develop ideas, plot, character, and theme than in
flash fiction.

inciting incident that demands resolution.
