Professional Communication for Business

Cross-cultural guide.

Cultural differences between various partners are viewed to be the root of

miscommunication and misunderstanding. Those partners are victims to diverse sets of social

institutions which may show distinctiveness in leadership and managerial behavior, conflict

resolution management, decision-making process, and reaction to managerial and strategic

issues. There are differences between the Chinese and UK cultures in various aspects such as

long/short term orientation, power distance, and individualism. Therefore, intercultural

communication relates to the interactions between various individuals that are coming from

diverse cultures thus comparing and contrasting them.

Training in professionals and those working within the China and UK business and

corporate interaction could easily happen that the department could be having the staff coming

from diverse cultures. To have effective cooperation, the companies and organizations have to be

trained on better understanding and communicating within the two different cultures. This

involves aspects such as behaviors, norms, and values.

In China, the communication between employees is not effective among different

departments is perceived to be very ineffective dragging the operations of corporate operations.

Additionally, there are the Chinese among their employees who rarely express their opinions in

conferences and meetings, which is not the same with the British staff as they can speak their

thoughts and suggestions. In China, the subordinates are also less informed about their

supervisors in the establishments of work. Therefore, during the designing of effective

techniques to be used in communication the manager has to be considerate not to pass irrelevant

information to various departments (Ghauri, 2013).

Although people’s personalities are different and are very had to change, the

organizational culture in international workplaces and businesses have to focus on educating the

workers can understand the diversity in culture of the two cultures. Language training can also be

used to enable there is effective communication within the two cultures. A common language

can be used to ensure that effective communication can be achieved. For instance, English is a

good common language that can be learned. This is the only way that can ensure that a diverse

cultural cooperation venture can be successful (Froese et al., 2019).

Therefore, with the fast-developing international and cooperation of different nations,

there is a need for companies to come up with strategies to ensure that internationalization

together with the various entry into market strategies have been developed and designed

following proper and effective strategies. International businesses are always facing various

challenges worldwide and normally in joint ventures. Additionally, by using theories such as

theoretical models that can enable international cultures can evaluate the cultural differences that

can bring up challenges and other issues in organizations and business corporates. Besides, there

is a need for the business to have the knowledge and foster a good relationship between

organizational and national beliefs.

commentary

Intercultural communication is very vital. This is because intercultural communication

enables working among various cultures and areas to enhance harmonious relations and avoid

conflict at the workplace or business. Is vital to pass information effectively across other

countries and cultures. Another importance of having intercommunication skills is to be able to

interact with people from other countries' workmates, customers, and employees (Lorca & de

Andrés, 2018). Executives in big corporates working both at home and internationally have to be

equipped with these intercultural skills to mitigate offensive acts and misunderstandings.

Additionally, intercultural communication is vital for those working with individuals from other

cultures therefore making intercultural communication skills are good skills to have to survive in

the current business world.

In the comparison of china and the Uk. In the dimension of power distance which

perceives that all people within societies are not equal. China has a high score in regards to

proving that numerous Chinese populations agree with the perception of inequality. On the other,

Britain does not agree with people being equal in various aspects. Therefore, the perception of

different attitudes about equality will be different between China and Britain ventures which

affect decision-making incidences and communication processes. Regarding individualism

where the masses are more focused on their families and homes only. The comparison between

china and UK on individualism china had more interest in groups and not focusing on

themselves alone (Johnson et al., 2006). Britain on the other hand had high individualistic scores

pointing out that there is a huge gap between the two diverse cultures with people working

within china and Uk ventures.

On the other hand, masculinity is a perception that is mentored by society being driven

towards various forces. This includes the need for achievement and competition. A low score in

masculinity shows the society is more focused on other different factors such as the quality of

life. China and UK both have the same score in this category of which shows they are both

masculine individuals. Uncertainty avoidance points out that the future of a given society is hard

to predict and control. This uncertainty can cause people to get nervous or anxious. Chinese and

Britain people both are perceived to have the same degree of vague situations.

Long-term orientation on the other hand shows how the diverse cultures are reacting to

their history and also dealing with challenges that may show up currently and in the future.

China had a high score that indicates that they are a highly pragmatic culture, they hold the

perception that they are highly dependent on the fact that various circumstances are dependent on

the time, context, and situation happening. Britain on the other hand has a close score however

the British culture cannot be determined.

In China, since the populations are more of the idea that Chinese believe in inequality

the superior and subordinate are more polarized and nothing is preventing abuse by the superiors.

China also has a collectivist culture, therefore during the process of hiring and being given

promotions in any given company, the closer relationships will have the priorities and treatment.

However, in the UK the individuals have a high individualistic culture which makes them have

more happiness achievement by doing personal fulfillment. Therefore, most of the cultural

differences between the two diverse cultures have to be dealt with in joint business and working

processes. Therefore, communication and training are recommendations that will ensure that

intercultural communication skills have been achieved for the smooth running of an international

joint venture.
