General information and operations hours

The main objective of the childcare center is to indulge in activities that foster

incremental development progress within a safe and healthy environment and keen to attend to

each and every child capturing their abilities and interests. The center is equipped with qualified

and experienced childcare providers as if fosters integration into school and society as well.

Typically, the childcare center is open on all weekdays from 7a.m in the morning to 6p.m in the

evening. During the weekends the services are still offered however the number of hours are

reduced. That is during the weekends the childcare center opens at 7 a.m. In the morning and

runs until midday.

Program philosophy statement

At our childcare center we believe that the programs and services offer developmentally

fitting curriculum as we strive to expand emotional, social, physical and intellectual growth

among the young children. The programs offered foster creativity, self-esteem and curiosity

where knowledge begins to manifest among the children by focusing on the children’s abilities

and interests. Teacher supported and child initiated play is a vital part of our program. Basically

at our center you join into the wondrous world of children where self-expression and imagination

flourishes.

Inclusion Criteria

Inclusion signifies that all the children at the childcare center are given equal access to

engage and participate in the child care programs. While the children are together playing their

development is enhanced and the social positive attitudes are nurtured. Our childcare ensures that

the stuff responds to needs and abilities of each and every child. Additionally, opportunities are

provided for each child to enable them to learn this is done through peers, guided by experienced

service providers. Some of the benefits of inclusion include greater opportunities to interact with

peers, respect and acceptance by among themselves, and preparation to transition to school.

Some of the criteria used while handling inclusion at the childcare center includes individual

childcare and early learning, family centered practice, collaboration among staff, inclusive

environment and lastly meaningful participation.

Health, Safety and Nutrition

 Hygiene practices

There are various hygiene practices that can be practiced and trained within the

childcare center as it assists in the child’s development. Besides it encourages lifelong

hygiene habits within the child’s early education. One of the vital habits include hand

washing as it assists keep germs and bacteria away. Other hygiene practices we

encourage are the use of toilet paper and washing hand after using the washrooms,

avoiding contact with things that could potentially be infectious, wiping their noses using

a disposable tissue and disposing it well into the bin, and teaching the importance of not

sharing utensils (Petit ELJ, 2020).

 Reaction in case of Outbreaks

In case there is an outbreak within the childcare center there are some steps that

can be taken into consideration in order to mitigate the outbreak, some of this steps

include; educating the Staff and parents. There includes sharing the symptoms, how the

infections spreads and the measure that can be put in place. The parents should also be

informed incase their children have been in contact with staff or other children that show

symptoms of being infected. Another measure is to separate the children that show signs

of the outbreak from the rest. Also termination of swimming activities and other water

play activities. Practicing good hygiene is also vital for prevention and mitigation of the

outbreak as it keeps the bacteria and germs away. This includes washing of hands and

disinfection of objects and surfaces (CDC, 2015).

 Handling child abuse within the childcare center

Child abuse is something that can happen and still happens therefore it is the

objective of childcare providers to be able to notice child abuse as assist whether it is

taking place within the childcare Centre or outside their care. Regardless of the fact on

child care provides would want to be at a point where they have to report a case of child

abuse, they have to understand their professional and legal objectives and understand the

protocol of reporting such cases to child protective services agencies. This involves

talking to the children, school personnel and parents about the suspected child abuse.

Some of the individuals mandated to report to include, child care workers, health care

workforces, law administration personnel, psychological health professionals, the clerics

and communal workers.

 Summer and winter safety precautions

Given the changes in weather and conditions that come with summer and winter

some precautions have to be put in place. Water safety come in among the first given

young children like to play with water, during the summer the children can be allowed to

engage in outdoor water play. Hydration is also vital as children cannot control their

temperatures hence need to drink lots of water when it is hot. Play grounds should also be

maintained especially during the winter as children could engage in accidents due to the

excess humidity within.

 Food safety, allergies, restrictions and diet

Childcare centers have to adhere to hygiene regulations and nutrition standards.

Additionally, the care givers have to be aware in case of reported and known allergies

among the children or cases of developing allergies. Promoting children’s health is a vital

aspect as it builds on their immunity and general wellbeing. Therefore, children should be

offered notorious meals and involve in positive mealtime experiences. Therefore, the

childcare providers have a responsibility to ensure their center and staff are aware of the

hygiene standards, nutrition principles for a child and food safety laws (Better Health,

2020).

 Handling serious occurrences

When serious occurrence such as death happens while the children are under the

care of caregivers. Certain steps need to be considered this include;

- addressing the safety and health of a child

- contacting the police in case of death, providing a report given to a program

advisor or ministry within 24 hours after its occurrence

-within the Centre the serious occurrence has to be posted at the entrance for

parents to access and is updated as investigations are completed.

 Addressing a Parent’s Complain

While dealing with a complaint from a parent some aspects have to be considered

to solve the issue successfully, some of the aspects include listening and agree without

interruptions, categorizing the complaint by referring them to the specific relevant

persons, empathizing with them, taking responsibility and apologizing, promise to fix the

concern and following up.

 Organizing trips and outings

Outings and trips have didactic, social and educational value. Thus they have to

follow classroom activities. The Centre is responsible for organizing the trips and

outings. The outings have to first be discussed within the director and teachers and later

inform the parents beforehand. After seeking the opinions of the education committee,

the administration can then be being the arrangements of the trip. The site chosen has to

be visited prior to the outgoing and plan a day by day timetable. The weekends are

perfect for the trips Additionally, not child should miss the trip due to financial

constraints.

 Immunization Policy

Children being up to date with their immunization is vital as it protects them

against certain diseases that can be fatal. Children being taken care of in childcare

facilities need to have their immunizations up to date. In case the child has not been given

certain vaccines the parents may receive letter notifying them about their child missing

certain vaccines and in case of exemptions the parent can request for legal services from

healthcare providers to complete the exemption forms (Eastern Ontario Health Unit,

2021).

Special events happening within the childcare center

 End year concert

In our center there are various activities taking place such as farm animals, face

painting, bouncing castles and fire trucks and sharing of snacks. all these takes place

during the afternoon as a way to thank all educators, children and parents on an end of a

big year. The performance is categorized by various age groups to keep all the children

enticed.

 Parent and stuff meeting schedule

There are certain ways meetings can be conducted that ought to be interactive and

brainstorming. There for it is vital to set meeting times and arrange for meetings too

when the need arises. It is vital to have agenda in advance. Additionally, the time and

place of the meeting should be at a place where the parents and staff get relaxed. Short

meetings can take time during break and nap times while long meetings can happen in the

evening after the children have left for home to reduce distractions (Child Care Lounge,

2018).

 Parents information nights

Parents are invited to attend the parent’s information night where there will be a

speech from the Centre manager later on have individual room information sessions with

the childcare givers. Parents ought to find alternative arrangements to children and come

alone in order to focus on sharing of information and discussions.

 Special event, Picture, Beach and Picnic day

All these recreation events leads to the development of the children as it acts as

early childhood learning. Besides it incorporates happiness, socializing and making of

good memories within children. The events can be combined or done separately

depending on the schedule agreed upon by the Centre’s administration, Staff and parents.

Resources for parents

 Special needs

Having children with special needs parents are their most important advocate.

Thus a parent may need information about the special needs, early intervention, school

services, therapy, commuting and many more. Therefore, parents the Centre refers to

community parent resource Centre where they are informed more about the needs of their

children.

 Infant sleeping, feeding and development

Parents are advised on the importance of sleep and food nutrients and how they

affect the development of their children within the Centre by professionals. Children

sleep a lot but still have to wake up frequently to feed given their tiny stomachs.

Breastfeeding and all the nutrients from food and sleep are all vital for the development

and growth of children.

 Activities for all age groups

Multi age groups are diverse having a variety of development stages. Having

children at childcare and at home having different likes and interest due to age can easily

be solved by identifying the development needs, interests, personalities and skills while

forming and designing the learning spaces.

 Handling children misbehavior

During instances when children misbehave parents can instill discipline by

guiding and coaching the child, step aback and investigate whether they need help with

something, acknowledge their emotions and removing the child from the situation that

might be the root to the problem.

 Starting kindergarten

For the parents whose child is almost joining kindergarten this steps can be

helpful. They include planning a visit to the school, establishing bet routines, being

informed of the school happenings, start a nap phase out strategy and making plans for

before and after school.

 Applying for subsidy

The child subsidy programs can be handy for parents that have unstable income

sources. For parents that may be interested there are some eligibility requirements that

have to be met. These requirements include proof of identity and residence, family size

and income, citizenships status and age of the child among others.

 Resources for summer activities

Summer times are great for learning opportunities for children. Certain activities

can be done during the summer times to keep the children active and learning. These

activities may include parents designing writing and reading into everyday activities,

engaging in geocaching, and offering recommendations for learning experiences such as

checking with local departments of parks and recreation sites that are not costly (ECLKC,
