S/n Thread Connection Remarks


REG Style Thread Connections
1 2 3/8 REG They called API threads along with IF style which is now obsoleted, only NC are
2 2 7/8 REG used but it interchangeable with IF connection with same size
Note, (these all connections are mostly used in all BHA worldwide)
3 3 ½ REG
4 4 ½ REG
5 6 5/8 REG
6 7 5/8 REG
7 8 5/8 REG Used only in 12” PBL Tools (rare)
NC Style threads Connections
8 NC 26 (2 3/8 IF) “IF” names are obsoleted in around 1970, but still are used by the industry but
9 NC 31 ( 2 7/8 IF) actually they are NC. Even if “IF” threads are requested to machine shop they
will make it as NC, because there is no more IF now. (NC is used in mostly Drill
10 NC 38 (3 ½ IF) Pipes, HWDP and Small OD Drill Collars as well)
11 NC 46 (4 IF) BOTH NC AND REG THREADS ARE CALLED AS API THREADS WHATEVER THE
12 NC 50 (4 ½ IF) SIZES ARE.

Proprietary Thread Connections


XT 39 XT = Extra Torqued
XT 54 These two are here in Well Flow only
But a lot of proprietary connections are available in the industry like VAM, DSTG
and all that but do not confuse yourself with others just know the names and
shapes of these two connection only.
