SI Session Plan

Brainstorm Topics/Materials:
Consider all content from lecture, readings, and homework that students should study.
Attach a separate sheet if necessary.

1. Osmoregularity 6. Ammonia
2. Kidneys 7. Immune Cells
3. Protonephridia 8. Innate Immunity
4. Malpighian Tubes 9. Adaptive Immunity
5. Metanephridia 10. Uric Acid

Prioritize:
Think about the material and its relative importance and difficulty. List the line numbers
above in the appropriate quadrant.

Session Objective:
What do students most need to accomplish in this session?
Students need to become familiar with the various immune cells and osmoregulatory
organs. They also needs to recognize the differences in osmoregularity between various
animals.

How to Cover Material:

Beginning with quadrant 1 above, begin planning your session. Q1 and Q3 will be the
focus of SI, and Q2 and Q4 should be studied at home. Include processes you will use in
your session as well as processes you suggest the students use in their home study.

Agenda for Session:

List a brief agenda that you will put on the board at the beginning of your session.

SI Session: Suggested Home Study:

-Matching -Redo this worksheet without looking at the
-Conceptual Review notes
-Labeling -Do Dr. Stoffer’s extra MC problems

Documents Created:
List which documents, if any, you used in your session and added to your Mentor’s
OneDrive folder.

Reflection:
Briefly discuss how the session went vs. how you planned it: strengths, opportunities for
improvement, adjustments for the next session, etc.

My thirtheenth session went fairly smooth. I felt confident in this material because I had
relearned the immune system recently. I think I can still find a better job in which
students can collaborate because most of the questions in the class are either you know it
or you don’t. I will say having a labeling section and multiple visual concept questions
helps in retention because I had the students draw out the concepts on the white board.
For next class, I can make a Venn diagram so that the students are more familiar with
what they have to learn and how to make connections across several concepts.
