BG Introduction

Mangalacarana – (CC – Managalacarana 14 verses)

Purposes: Vastu Nirdesa , Krupa yacana prarthana, Ashirvada for divya jnanam
Praying for mercy from Lord and devotees, Asking Blessings for Transcendental Knowledge, and Establishing
the objective (Vastu Nirdesa) that is to fix ourself in the transcendental loving service of the Supreme Lord. That
means to attain Love of Godhead.

Gain spiritual strength in our endeavor (na yam atma pravacanena labhvo, na yam atma balhinene)
Pass through obstacles (Narasimhadev – Bhakti Vigna Vinasaka Narasinga Dev, Caitanya Mahaprabhu – Sri
Caitanya Prabhum Vande balopi yat anugrahat/ taren nana mata graha vyaptam siddhanta sagaram)
Attittude to become selfless servant and follow as it is in the footsteps of Srila Prabhupada.

Bhagavad-gétä is also known as Gétopaniñad. It is the essence of Vedic knowledge and one of the most
important Upaniñads in Vedic literature.

Three departments of human knowledge disseminated by the Vedas,


fruitive work (karma-käëòa),

In the Vedas there are three categories of activities, known as karma-käëòa (fruitive activities), jïäna-käëòa
(philosophical research) and upäsanä-käëòa (worship of different demigods for receiving material benefits) - SB
4.20.30

Vedic purpose is pursued in three ways (trayé)—by karma-käëòa, jïäna-käëòa and upäsanä-käëòa. When one
reaches the complete, perfect stage of upäsanä-käëòa, one comes to worship Näräyaëa, or Lord Viñëu. - SB

karma-käëòa section of the Vedas prescribes ritualistic sacrifices for promotion to heaven.
upäsanä-käëòa section of the Vedas designates different demigods as objects of ritualistic worship
ïäna-käëòa section of the Vedas different philosophical methods of analysis are presented and refuted.

BG part of Mahabharata - Smriti


Bg – Even though part of Mahabharata , Smriti text – because contains the philosophy of upanisads & also
contains the essence of upanisads – That’s why BG is also an upanisad – hence called Gitopanisad.

Sruti Smriti Nyaya prasthana – No difference as conclusion is the same. Conclusion of all the Scriptures -
vedaiç ca sarvair aham eva vedyo / vedänta-kåd veda-vid eva cäham
By all the Vedas am I to be known; indeed I am the compiler of Vedänta, and I am the knower of the Vedas. - Bg
15.15

sarvopaniñado gävo
dogdhä gopäla-nandanaù
pärtho vatsaù su-dhér bhoktä
dugdhaà gétämåtaà mahat
"This Gétopaniñad, Bhagavad-gétä, the essence of all the Upaniñads, is just like a cow, and Lord Kåñëa, who is
famous as a cowherd boy, is milking this cow. Arjuna is just like a calf, and learned scholars and pure devotees
are to drink the nectarean milk of Bhagavad-gétä."

Since Gétopaniñad is fully based on the principles of the Upaniñads, it is not surprising to find this parallel
passage in the Kaöha Upaniñad - Bg 2.29

The Upaniñads mark the beginning of transcendental life. (– Bg 2.45 Traigunya visaya veda)

Of course there are many commentaries in English on the Bhagavad-gétä, and one may question the
necessity for another one. This present edition can be explained in the following way. Recently an
American lady asked me to recommend an English translation of Bhagavad-gétä. Of course in America
there are so many editions of Bhagavad-gétä available in English, but as far as I have seen, not only in
America but also in India, none of them can be strictly said to be authoritative because in almost every one
of them the commentator has expressed his own opinions without touching the spirit of Bhagavad-gétä as
it is.

Modern idea – Express yourself

The spirit of Bhagavad-gétä is mentioned in Bhagavad-gétä itself. It is just like this: If we want to take a
particular medicine, then we have to follow the directions written on the label. We cannot take the
medicine according to our own whim or the direction of a friend. It must be taken according to the
directions on the label or the directions given by a physician. Similarly, Bhagavad-gétä should be taken or
accepted as it is directed by the speaker Himself.

BG Indeed a Medicine – Modern people are proud of medical advancement and side by side they spread
atheism…saying that…if you get some disease where will you go…to doctor or to God…..But by scientific
advancement – no medicine or herb or – invented – say No more disease, No more Old age, no more death.

O mind, please drink the transcendental medicine of Çré Kåñëa's glories. It is the perfect medicine for curing the
disease of bewilderment, for inspiring sages to engage their minds in meditation, and for tormenting the mighty
Daitya demons. It alone is the medicine for restoring the three worlds to life and for bestowing unlimited
blessings on the Supreme Lord's devotees. Indeed, it is the only medicine that can destroy one's fear of material
existence and lead one to the attainment of the supreme good.

By reading and understanding BG , acts like medicine for curing our Bhava-roga.
bhäratämåta-sarvasvaà

punar janma na vidyate
"One who drinks the water of the Ganges attains salvation, so what to speak of one who drinks the nectar of
Bhagavad-gétä? Bhagavad-gétä is the essential nectar of the Mahäbhärata, and it is spoken by Lord Kåñëa
Himself, the original Viñëu." (Gétä-mähätmya 5)

Descriptions of the Lord are the right medicine for the conditioned soul undergoing repeated birth and death. SB
10.1.4

Gitamrtam – That transcendental knowledge which gives us immortality or free us from bondage of this birth and
death.

Medicine – taken according to the direction given in the label or as directed by physician.
Same way BG taken according to the speaker Lord Krsna as it is….Just like Arjuna has taken..
After hearing the whole BG from Krsna…Arjuna said---sarva etat rtam manye yam mam vadasi Kesava…

Conversation between SCM and Sarvabhauma Bhattacharya


Primary Meaning and Secondary Meaning – as per the conversation

The speaker of Bhagavad-gétä is Lord Çré Kåñëa. He is mentioned on every page of Bhagavad-gétä as the
Supreme Personality of Godhead, Bhagavän. Of course the word bhagavän sometimes refers to any
powerful person or any powerful demigod, and certainly here bhagavän designates Lord Çré Kåñëa as a
great personality, but at the same time we should know that Lord Çré Kåñëa is the Supreme Personality
of Godhead, as is confirmed by all great äcäryas (spiritual masters) like Çaìkaräcärya, Rämänujäcärya,
Madhväcärya, Nimbärka Svämé, Çré Caitanya Mahäprabhu and many other authorities of Vedic
knowledge in India.

Bhagavän, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, is thus defined by Paräçara Muni as one who is full in six
opulences—who has full wealth, strength, fame, beauty, knowledge, and renunciation. Unlimitedly and perfectly.

Not based on Mano Kalpana – Experience- Voting by many.

The Lord Himself also establishes Himself as the Supreme Personality of Godhead in the Bhagavad-gétä,
and He is accepted as such in the Brahma-saàhitä and all the Puräëas, especially the Çrémad-Bhägavatam,
known as the Bhägavata Puräëa (kåñëas tu bhagavän svayam [SB 1.3.28]). Therefore we should take
Bhagavad-gétä as it is directed by the Personality of Godhead Himself.

Why Krsna is Bhagavan? Three reasons – Acaryas say– Krsna Himself says and – Scriptures say Brahma
Samhita, SB Puranas say. This is the spirit of Bhagavad Gita. Vastu Nirdesam –
ISKCON – Krsna Consciousness- not God Consciousness.
Since Krsna is Supreme so We are called Hare Krsnas, …. not that opposite, not that Hare Krsnas are saying
Krsna is supreme so Krsna is Supreme no Not like that…. people misunderstand Hare Krsn devotees and Krsna
also and make us equal with all so-called spiritual organisations.
In BG itself Arjuna also says – param brahma….
If We read and understand BG as it is – understand Krsna is Supreme Personality of Godhead
Ekala eswara Krsna, ara sab brthya….ete camsu kala pumsah krsnas tu bhagavan svayam.

Briefly declared how BG to be understood- now SP talk about Who can understand BG?

In the Fourth Chapter of the Gétä (4.1-3) the Lord says:……


Here the Lord informs Arjuna that this system of yoga, the Bhagavad-gétä, was first spoken to the sun-
god, and the sun-god explained it to Manu, and Manu explained it to Ikñväku, and in that way, by
disciplic succession, one speaker after another, this yoga system has been coming down. But in the course
of time it has become lost. Consequently the Lord has to speak it again, this time to Arjuna on the
Battlefield of Kurukñetra.

Historical background – Disciplic succession(DiSu) used to exist with Sun-god but that has broken…and
whenever such DiSu is broken Lord again re-establishes the parampara - Personally with Arjuna or by sending
His confidential associates or devotees to this world.

Hence there are Two Paramparas –


- Rajarishis as stated in BG 4.2 – Parampara of great saintly kings who are Great Kings and Great Devotees
- Acarya parampara – Parampara of Pure Devotees
Many times Parampara of saintly kings is broken but parampara of Acaryas is never broken.
Question may be arised that if that parampara with Sungod is broken then Nobody knows the knowledge
of BG. No its not like that…
Acaryas were having the knowledge. Acarya Parampara continues without breaking down

(Çrémad – filled with spiritual power, beautiful, opulent, divine, effulgent)

He tells Arjuna that He is relating this supreme secret to him because Arjuna is His devotee and His
friend. The purport of this is that Bhagavad-gétä is a treatise which is especially meant for the devotee of
the Lord. There are three classes of transcendentalists, namely the jïäné, the yogé and the bhakta, or the
impersonalist, the meditator and the devotee.

Eg: Can everybody get an entrance into a medical college? Yes, however there are conditions (sharatulu)
Position of devotee is not the same as that of jnani and yogi. SP uses the word especially meant

Jnani- meditates on the impersonal

Here the Lord clearly tells Arjuna that He is making him the first receiver of a new paramparä (disciplic
succession) because the old succession was broken. It was the Lord's wish, therefore, to establish another
paramparä in the same line of thought that was coming down from the sun-god to others, and it was His
wish that His teaching be distributed anew by Arjuna. He wanted Arjuna to become the authority in
understanding the Bhagavad-gétä. So we see that Bhagavad-gétä is instructed to Arjuna especially because
Arjuna was a devotee of the Lord, a direct student of Kåñëa, and His intimate friend.

Arjuna – Nitya Parshad – Nitya Sahacharudu- Now also in another brahmanda BG Krsna is speaking to
Arjuna..that is Arjuna’s position. Bhakto sime sakha ceti – bhakto si me priyo si me.
Krsna – bewildered Arjuna for the sake of speaking Bhagavad Gita for the benefit of all the conditioned souls of
this material world.

“Kåñëa is so merciful that simply by aiming His instructions at Arjuna, He has given protection to the whole
world. - CCMadhya 22.56

He has given protection to the whole world.
Weapons, guns, Fighter planes, Money, Industries, Insurance, Powerful intelligence, Space exploration, Rich
People of the country give protection, Doctors, Health workers, Sanitory workers, Municipal Workers
Mahila Rakshana pathakam, Vrudhhylaku Rakshana Pathakam, Pillala Rakshana Pathakam,
Govula Rakshana Pathakam, Minority Rakshana Pathakam, Vidyarthula Rakshana Pathakam BC-SC-ST-
Rakshna Padhakam…etc…enenno Rakshana pathakalu unnayi…however
BG – Divyamaina Rakshana Padhakam,
World is protected by DHARMA.
BG – Divya Dharma Sastra

dharma eva hato hanti dharmo rakṣati rakṣitaḥ |


tasmād dharmo na hantavyo mā no dharmo hato'vadhīt | - Manu Smrti 8.15, Mahabharata
Dharma destroys those who destroy it, Dharma protects those who protect it. Dharma does not destroy and
cannot be destroyed.

How one can protect Dharma by following the principles of Dharma.


Krsna says –
yadä yadä hi dharmasya
glänir bhavati bhärata
abhyutthänam adharmasya
tadätmänaà såjämy aham
Whenever and wherever there is a decline in religious practice, O descendant of Bharata, and a predominant rise
of irreligion—at that time I descend Myself. Bg 4.7

vinäçäya ca duñkåtäm
dharma-saàsthäpanärthäya
sambhavämi yuge yuge
To deliver the pious and to annihilate the miscreants, as well as to reestablish the principles of religion, I Myself
appear, millennium after millennium. Bg 4.8
In order to establish Dharma – Krsna using Arjuna as nimitta, instrument.
Krsna would have told BG to anybody but if so that person should be special,
So that special person is Arjuna, becoz he is devotee

Therefore Bhagavad-gétä is best understood by a person who has qualities similar to Arjuna's. That is to say
he must be a devotee in a direct relationship with the Lord.

Arjuna had all the qualifications already so he become the specific recipient of Knowledge of BG.
In Mahabharata – many instances when Krsna spoke to many people some basic instructions not exactly BG but
good things… He spoke to Dhrtarastra, Bhisma, Drona, Vidura, Gandhari all understood but Duryodhana and his
followers didn’t accept.
Sometimes while doing Book distribution- people say that “Krsna told to Arjuna then when Krsna personally
tells to me then I will accept” Even local MP or counsellor also does nt come what to speak of Krsna. People
argue just becoz of ignorance. We can also tell him that even if Krsna comes personally then also he will not
understand.

SP explains that Krsna’s message coming down in DiSu as it is and spoken by His representatives after many
many years of Advent of Bg, it is as good as Krsna personally speaking.
No difference. Same benefit as Arjuna got 5000 years ago. Sound Vibration transmitted as it is and received
faithfully by the receiver or listener. This is the qualification of the student.

Qualification of student of BG. Like Arjuna to understand Bg


Arjuna is a pure devotee bhakto si me priyo si me. Sakha

As soon as one becomes a devotee of the Lord, he also has a direct relationship with the Lord.
That is a very elaborate subject matter, but briefly it can be stated that a devotee is in a relationship with
the Supreme Personality of Godhead in one of five different ways:

Every Jiva – special relationship with Krsna. But a devotee recognizes this siddhanta and wants to establish that
relationship and serve in that relationship. This is the process of yoga. Yoga – Yuj dhatu link – To link in love.
Jiva and Bhagavan Premapurvakamaina Sambhadham.

This loving relationship is being lost from our side not from Krsna’s side.

Krsna like the all loving father wants that all conditioned souls come to him but conditioned souls resists (maram
cheyadam) instead of Krsna , Baddha Jivudu wants to set up direct relationship with Maya or illusion

Conditioned souls have direct relationship with maya and devotees have direct relationship with Krsna.
Since non-devotees don’t want to have direct relation with Krsna so Krsna brings intermediary that is Maya to
cover up.

Maya means forgetfulness of my direct relationship with Krsna.

That direct relation with Krsna is always there. Nitya siddha krsna prema sadhya….

Now when we become devotees we can understand that we have a direct relationship with Krsna – a one to one
relationship.
This may not be possible for a human being to have a one to one relationship with everyone. Everyone of us in
this world know so many people. Now-a-days we have FB, Twitter, Instagram…so many people are speaking
about good relationships, seminars on relationship problems forgetting God or Krsna what ever relationship we
have that’s temporary afterall death is waiting for us….

Krsna’s relationship with us is such a way that each and every one will think that He is dealing only with me. He
is protecting me, Krsna is taking care of me, Krsna is helping me.

Eg: Krsna reciprocates with cows, calfs, Vraja vasis, Parents, Gopas, Gopis, 16108 wifes, other kings, Pandavas,
all at the same time which is inconceivable for us. But Krsna only can do…

This relationship is not mythology. Becoz in this material world there is no person exists like that so we think
that “How Krsna can have special relationship with jiva in this material world?”
Hence Absolute Truth means A vyakti yokka Karyamulu Manavula anubhavam lonu undali, Manavula
anubhavaniki atitanga kuda undali, ante manavatitam ga kuda undali

1. One may be a devotee in a passive state;


2. One may be a devotee in an active state;
3. One may be a devotee as a friend;
4. One may be a devotee as a parent;
5. One may be a devotee as a conjugal lover.

Shanta, Dasyam, Sakhya, Vatsalya, Madhurya.


Relationships are for the eternally liberated living entities in the spiritual world serving the Lord
These relationships are in the level of 100% purity and love, Prema Bhakti

Foundation for all these relationships is Prema Bhakti

Eg: Conversation btwn SCM and Ramananda Raya.


Jnane prayasam udapasya namanti eva…

NOD describes all these relationships.


Shanta rasa is a preliminary stage of attaining love of God. In this stage there is appreciation if the name, form,
qualities, and pastimes of the Lord. Some acharyas don’t consider it as a Rasa while others say that at this stage
there is preliminary appreciation of Krsna so it also included.
In Shanta Rasa there is appreciation but the spirit of service has not yet come alive. So SP says it’s a passive
state. There’s no much service given in the stage of shanta rasa.
Eg: 4 Kumaras, Bilvamangala Thakura, and Sukadeva Goswami,
SBSST says Yamunä River with its sandy banks. There are kadamba trees, cows, Kåñëa’s sticks with which He
herds cows, and Kåñëa’s flute.

Actual spirit if service starts from the stage of Dasya rasa, one actively engages in the service of the Lord. One
considers Krsna as Master and himself as servant.
Eg: Hanuman, Raktaka, Patraka, Citraka, Daruka – Direct servants of Krsna
There is some fear that I should not disturb my master.
Devotee feels always subordinate to the Lord.
Predominant Mellow is more Imp.
In the relationship of being a Friend there is no fear.
Dasya devotee always feels subordinate but the devotee in the mood of Sakhya, there is a spirit of equality and
increased confidence rather sometimes to increase the pleasure of the pastime, Krsna might feel some fear or
shocked due to equality.
Eg: Mother Yasodha calls Krsna for taking lunch but cowheardboys say that if you go now then we wont take
you back in the game, so Krsna becomes fearful and decides to stay. Cowheard boys entering the mouth of
Aghasura.
However, the level of affection is not as great as in the devotees in the Vatsalya rasa.
Eg: Subala, Sridhama, Madhumangala.

Devotees in the Vatsalya rasa like Mata Yasoda, Nanda Maharaja, Elderly gopis and gopas, always consider a
position superior to Krsna.
Mood of Vatsalya devotee is that of protector from bad objects, asuras, maintainer like feeding, bathing,
dressing, fondling, sometimes scolding and running behind Krsna with a stick as if to beat or tying to mortar etc.
So, affection increases. Still there is lack of freedom and intimacy with the Lord.

In the devotees in the mood of Madhurya Rasa have complete freedom and complete intimacy. Devotee in this
mood is considered highest. This is Rasa Vichar. (opposite is Tattva Vicar)

SP says:
Shanta – Lack of Service
Dasya – Real Service begins but Lack of confidence because of Fear
Sakhya – Full Confidence, No fear but there is increased want for affection.
Vatsalya – Increased affection but lack of complete freedom and intimacy.
Madhurya – Complete Freedom and Complete Intimacy. Topmost Rasa.

Arjuna was in a relationship with the Lord as friend. Of course there is a gulf of difference between this
friendship and the friendship found in the material world. This is transcendental friendship, which cannot
be had by everyone.

NOD: Arjuna, Bhima, Draupati (Brotherly kind of relation)


Akshaya Patra – Durvasa- Draupati – Grain – Krsna

Krsna’s deals differently with Pandavas. Yudhistira – Bowed down, Bhima – Bowed Down,
Arjuna – Embrace, Nakula & Sahadeva – Offer blessings- they bow down to Him.

BG – Krsna’s – Kurukshetra Lila – With Arjuna - senayour ubhayor madhe ratha stapaye me acyuta….

Of course, everyone has a particular relationship with the Lord, and that relationship is evoked by the
perfection of devotional service. But in the present status of our life, not only have we forgotten the
Supreme Lord, but we have forgotten our eternal relationship with the Lord. Every living being, out of the
many, many billions and trillions of living beings, has a particular relationship with the Lord eternally.
That is called svarüpa. By the process of devotional service, one can revive that svarüpa, and that stage is
called svarüpa-siddhi—perfection of one's constitutional position. So Arjuna was a devotee, and he was in
touch with the Supreme Lord in friendship.
The Lord can be realized through the aural reception of the transcendental message, and that is the only way to
experience the transcendental subject. As fire is kindled from wood by another fire, the divine consciousness of
man can similarly be kindled by another divine grace. His Divine Grace the spiritual master can kindle the
spiritual fire from the woodlike living entity by imparting proper spiritual messages injected through the
receptive ear. Therefore one is required to approach the proper spiritual master with receptive ears only, and thus
divine existence is gradually realized. The difference between animality and humanity lies in this process only. A
human being can hear properly, whereas an animal cannot.

ämi siddha kåñëa däsa, ei kathä bhule


mäyära naphara haïä cira-dina bule
“’The jéva soul, having forgotten his constitutional position as the eternal perfect and pure servant of Kåñëa,
remains mäyä’s slave while going from one body to the next.’

Father – Child Relationship – permanent – Child runs away from home or goes away fighting with father.

Best welfare activity: Srila Prabhupada – child – Help three ways- Give money – Take and get him cured and
feed – Take him to His separated father. Which is topmost activity?

Without first becoming adept at curing one's own disease, why try to treat many patients? Forgetfulness of the
Supreme Lord, Viñëu, is human society's real and original disease. - RTW 1.7: How to Cure the Material
Disease
Eg: Mother – Two brothers – small brother – diarrhea – Mother out – Big Brother – Parotta in desi ghee – fed
small brother – Mother beat Big Brother.

Summary
everyone has a particular relationship with the Lord
that relationship is evoked by the perfection of devotional service
present status of our life Not only we have forgotten SL but also our eternal relationship.

Now one may think that because Kåñëa was the friend of Arjuna, Arjuna was telling Him all this by way
of flattery, but Arjuna, just to drive out this kind of doubt from the minds of the readers of Bhagavad-
gétä, substantiates these praises in the next verse when he says that Kåñëa is accepted as the Supreme
Personality of Godhead not only by himself but by authorities like Närada, Asita, Devala and Vyäsadeva.
These are great personalities who distribute the Vedic knowledge as it is accepted by all äcäryas.
Therefore Arjuna tells Kåñëa that he accepts whatever He says to be completely perfect. Sarvam etad åtaà
manye: "I accept everything You say to be true."

So how can a human being understand Lord Çré Kåñëa without becoming His devotee?
A pure devotee who may be in the body of an ordinary human being still he is far far greater than demigods.
It’s said that many many Demigods are standing in line or queue and hankering to take birth in earthly planet to
engage in this Sankirtan movement.

Devotee doesn’t want to become God, he wants to serve God , what to speak of that he doesn’t even want to
become demigod also.
Therefore Bhagavad-gétä should be taken up in a spirit of devotion. One should not think that he is equal
to Kåñëa, nor should he think that Kåñëa is an ordinary personality or even a very great personality. Lord
Çré Kåñëa is the Supreme Personality of Godhead. So according to the statements of Bhagavad-gétä or
the statements of Arjuna, the person who is trying to understand the Bhagavad-gétä, we should at least
theoretically accept Çré Kåñëa as the Supreme Personality of Godhead, and with that submissive spirit we
can understand the Bhagavad-gétä. Unless one reads the Bhagavad-gétä in a submissive spirit, it is very
difficult to understand Bhagavad-gétä, because it is a great mystery.

Our very existence is in the atmosphere of nonexistence. Actually we are not meant to be threatened by
nonexistence. Our existence is eternal. But somehow or other we are put into asat. Asat refers to that
which does not exist.

Out of so many human beings who are suffering, there are a few who are actually inquiring about their
position, as to what they are, why they are put into this awkward position and so on. Unless one is
awakened to this position of questioning his suffering, unless he realizes that he doesn't want suffering but
rather wants to make a solution to all suffering, then one is not to be considered a perfect human being.
Humanity begins when this sort of inquiry is awakened in one's mind. In the Brahma-sütra this inquiry is
called brahma jijïäsä. Athäto brahma jijïäsä. Every activity of the human being is to be considered a
failure unless he inquires about the nature of the Absolute. Therefore those who begin to question why
they are suffering or where they came from and where they shall go after death are proper students for
understanding Bhagavad-gétä. The sincere student should also have a firm respect for the Supreme
Personality of Godhead. Such a student was Arjuna.

Lord Kåñëa descends specifically to reestablish the real purpose of life when man forgets that purpose.
Even then, out of many, many human beings who awaken, there may be one who actually enters the spirit
of understanding his position, and for him this Bhagavad-gétä is spoken. Actually we are all swallowed by
the tigress of nescience, but the Lord is very merciful upon living entities, especially human beings. To this
end He spoke the Bhagavad-gétä, making His friend Arjuna His student.

The subject of the Bhagavad-gétä entails the comprehension of five basic truths. First of all, the science of
God is explained and then the constitutional position of the living entities, jévas. There is éçvara, which
means the controller, and there are jévas, the living entities which are controlled. If a living entity says
that he is not controlled but that he is free, then he is insane. The living being is controlled in every
respect, at least in his conditioned life. So in the Bhagavad-gétä the subject matter deals with the éçvara,
the supreme controller, and the jévas, the controlled living entities. Prakåti (material nature) and time (the
duration of existence of the whole universe or the manifestation of material nature) and karma (activity)
are also discussed. The cosmic manifestation is full of different activities. All living entities are engaged in
different activities. From Bhagavad-gétä we must learn what God is, what the living entities are, what
prakåti is, what the cosmic manifestation is, how it is controlled by time, and what the activities of the
living entities are.

Only thing Jiva can do is to desire that’s all nothing more…Jiva has a freedom either to serve Krsna or maya if
he desires so…

Jiva has a freewill to desire but whether to fulfil or not that he cannot control…for that he is completely
dependent on the Lord..

Time is the agent of change…- Sadvikara 6 changes in body – activities Karma -

Out of these five basic subject matters in Bhagavad-gétä it is established that the Supreme Godhead, or
Kåñëa, or Brahman, or the supreme controller, or Paramätmä—you may use whatever name you like—is
the greatest of all. The living beings are in quality like the supreme controller. For instance, the Lord has
control over the universal affairs of material nature, as will be explained in the later chapters of
Bhagavad-gétä. Material nature is not independent. She is acting under the directions of the Supreme
Lord. As Lord Kåñëa says, mayädhyakñeëa prakåtiù süyate sa-caräcaram: “This material nature is
working under My direction.” When we see wonderful things happening in the cosmic nature, we should
know that behind this cosmic manifestation there is a controller. Nothing could be manifested without
being controlled. It is childish not to consider the controller. For instance, a child may think that an
automobile is quite wonderful to be able to run without a horse or other animal pulling it, but a sane man
knows the nature of the automobile’s engineering arrangement. He always knows that behind the
machinery there is a man, a driver. Similarly, the Supreme Lord is the driver under whose direction
everything is working.

However, the other item, karma, is not eternal. The effects of karma may be very old indeed. We are
suffering or enjoying the results of our activities from time immemorial, but we can change the results of
our karma, or our activity, and this change depends on the perfection of our knowledge. We are engaged
in various activities. Undoubtedly we do not know what sort of activities we should adopt to gain relief
from the actions and reactions of all these activities, but this is also explained in the Bhagavad-gétä.

Karma not eternal but

If we get Sambandha Jnana from BG then we can get relief from the actions and reactions of all these
activities…
but we can change the results of our karma, or our activity, and this change depends on the perfection of
our knowledge…By getting sambandha jnana – can change karma…to the extent we get adhatmika
knowledge to that extent we get relief from karma…

Bhedabheda tattva.

The supreme conscious éçvara is similar to the living entity in this way: both the consciousness of the Lord
and that of the living entity are transcendental. It is not that consciousness is generated by the association
of matter. That is a mistaken idea. The theory that consciousness develops under certain circumstances of
material combination is not accepted in the Bhagavad-gétä. Consciousness may be pervertedly reflected by
the covering of material circumstances, just as light reflected through colored glass may appear to be a
certain color, but the consciousness of the Lord is not materially affected.

yena sarvam idaà tatam

what is spread all over the body: it is consciousness.
Everyone is conscious of the pains and pleasures of the body in part or as a whole. This spreading of
consciousness is limited within one's own body. The pains and pleasures of one body are unknown to another.
Therefore, each and every body is the embodiment of an individual soul, and the symptom of the soul's presence
is perceived as individual consciousness.
What is proof of consciousness?
Proof of consciousness is presence of soul
Eg: Proof of sun is presence of sunlight. If there is no sunlight then there is no sun….’lly Proof of Soul is
presence of sunlight….
Proof of fire or fiery substance is presence of Heat and light…
Consciousness is inseperable from soul
Consciousness is not Material its spiritual.

Matter cannot give rise to consciousness… from consciousness, matter arises ….

Life comes from Life….Life doesn’t arise from matter or lifeless substance…what if the proof of life is
prescence of consciousness and proof of consciousness is the presence of Soul…,
No proof that life comes from matter….Many many proofs that life comes from life….
