1. What is feedback in ELT?


It consist of delivering information to students on how they are performing, and also to
help learners to improve specific points, or to help plan their learning. It also can be
immediate, during and activity, or delayed, at the end of an activity or part of a class.
2. What do you consider feedback should be like?
Feedback should be given in balance, varying between positive and constructive
commentary. Teachers have to be aware of how they give feedback because a negative
comment could affects students learning performance or even to make them give up
learning a new language. Feedback has to be something positive that motivates students,
developers their autonomy and complexity of student’s speaking and writing.

3. Explain briefly some feedback techniques for the productive skills:

3. What is assessment?
Is a general item, which consists of methods and techniques used to gather information
about student ability, knowledge, understanding and motivation. Is also accepted as one
of the crucial parts of teaching, in other words, teachers can evaluate the level of skills or
knowledge of students.
4. What is the purpose of assessing students?
To asses students progress in proficiency, to guide and improve students performance, to
evaluate and inform instruction and program design, to support learning.
5. Which are the elements of effective assessment? Explain them briefly.
Authenticity: using this principle in a test uses the test for performing an assignment in a
real life situation.
Reliability: it has to be consistent and dependable, for instance, if a teacher gives the same
test to the same student or matched students on two different occasions, the test has to
show the same results.
Validity: is perceived when the assessment method is consisted with the material and
curriculum being taught and if the results of the assessment are accurate. It measures
what it is supposed to measure and would the instrument give the same results if it is
repeated.
Washback effect: this principle is defined as the effect of testing on a teaching and
learning a foreign language. It may denote both the promotion and self-consciousness of
language learning.
7. What types of assessment are there, and what are their purposes?

(I. e., diagnostic, summative etc.)


Diagnostic: Assesses a student’s strengths, weaknesses, knowledge, and skills prior to instruction.
Formative: Assesses a student’s performance during instruction, and usually occurs regularly
throughout the instruction process.
Summative: it measures a student’s achievement at the end of instruction.
Norm-referenced: compares a student’s performance against other students.
Criterion: measures a student’s performance against a goal, specific objective, or standard.
Interim: evaluates students performance at periodic intervals , frequently at the end of a grading
period.

8. What assessment instruments can be used in the language class?


Oral presentations, quizzes, projects, exams, portfolios, listening tests.

9. Write a comprehensive conclusion on the topic of assessment and feedback


Both assessment and feedback are important in the process of learning. In the case of assessment,
it is really helpful because it shows us the level of knowledge of students, it also shows if a student
needs reinforcement in a specific topic. In the case of feedback, it is helpful because teachers can
improve the performance of students by correcting students mistakes. It is important to remind
that giving feedback has to be positive and respectful towards students to keep them motivated.
