Emergency Relief
I
n late December last year, a spate of disastrous floods engulfed
several states in Northern and Eastern Peninsular Malaysia,
displacing hundreds of thousands of people and resulting in
damage to property and infrastructure costing billions of ringgit.
These circumstances saw Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) venture
beyond its usual purview as the country’s main power utility, to
initiate numerous immediate relief and recovery efforts, and render
aid to those most affected by the tragedy.

(LPCs) relate to power interruptions. But now, power quality (PQ)
disturbances such as voltage sags, harmonic distortion and voltage
transients have caused more problems to sensitive industries than power
reliability issues. Power quality disturbances usually affect certain equipment
and not all equipment in a plant. Because of this, PQ can be as big a problem
to LPCs as power interruption. Therefore, TNB has increased its focus on
dealing with PQ issues to ensure prime customer satisfaction.
