Making Sentences 1.

Grammar is a set of rules to follow so that our writing


makes sense, is clear and easily understood.

A sentence is a group of words that makes complete


sense on its own without any additional words.

Here is a jumble of words:

The first sentence is a STATEMENT:

This is an interesting book.

The second sentence is a QUESTION:

Is this an interesting book?

 A sentence can be a STATEMENT.

Example: Granny and Maya like reading.

 A sentence can be a QUESTION.

Example: Do you like ice-cream?

 A sentence can be an EXCLAMATION.

Example: He’s scored a goal!

 A sentence can be a COMMAND.

Example: Stop, thief!

A sentence always:
 starts with a capital letter.
 ends with a full stop(.) or a question mark (?)
or an exclamation mark (!).
