ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious and the Most Merciful. All praises to Allah and
His blessing for the completion of this assignment. Our humblest gratitude to the holy Prophet
Muhammad whose way of life has been a continuous guidance for us.

First and foremost, I would like to sincerely thank my lecturer Mrs Rosnita Sahrani for
her guidance, understanding, patience and most importantly, she has provided positive
encouragement throughout the pandemic for me and other students. Without her guidance
through virtual classes, this assignment will not be completed as it is.

My deepest gratitude goes to all my family members especially my parents. They have
given me the best support and help by providing me with conducive environment for my
learning.

Lastly, I would like to thank all my beloved classmates in KIM1204C who were very
helpful. Although this is our first time meeting eye to eye, we are already like brothers and
sisters helping each other.

The report, “An indexing system for the relevance of academic production and research from
digital repositories and metadata,” was written by Jared David Tadeo Guerrero-Sosa, Víctor
Hugo Menéndez-Domínguez and María Enriqueta Castellanos-Bolaños – in 2020.

A study and an article written by Jared David Tadeo Guerrero-Sosa, Víctor Hugo
Menéndez-Domínguez and María Enriqueta Castellanos-Bolaños state and examine about
an indexing scheme for academic production and research associated with digital repos and
metadata. The indicators proposed in this paper were used to characterize group and
individual output at a large public university in southern Mexico. A huge amount of high
researchers are housed on university campuses. These indicators were highly useful in data
gathering that proved specific predictions about the university's scientific output.

According to the authors, an activity research methodology is used to link research

and practice. Research informs practice, and practice is responsible for informing research in
a collaborative manner. As the authors stated, it is divided into five phases namely define the
scenario as first phase, propose the tools and metrics, implements a prototype, carry out tests
and the last phase, document and disseminate. Under this methodology, there are three
subunit indicator which is proposed indicators for scientific relevance, indicators for research
groups and indicators for researchers. Several indicators for the validity of research groups
and researchers are presented below for proposed indicators for scientific relevance. It should
be noted that the weighted values for these publications are arbitrary, as some publications
are more important than others. They can, however, be customized to meet the needs of other
entities, needs, and countries. Scopus is the source of the indexed publications under
consideration here. The equation in the article symbolizes the research's impact, an indicator
that will be used consistently throughout this document alongside other indicators. Following
that, an indicator for research groups is posited that estimates a research group's overall
relevance. This is made up of other metrics. The final indicator is proposed in the same way
as the indicator for research groups, which measures the relevance for researchers based on
other metrics. In the paper, the authors also discuss implementation. From data recovery and

processing to calculation and presentation of the results, a system that calculates the metrics
was implemented. The authors also stated that architecture is crafted in layers to facilitate the
orderly flow of information, and that each layer serves their own specific purpose. As the
authors, the implementation is divided into three stages, information acquisition, calculating
indicators for research groups, and calculating indicators for researchers. The proposed
indicators for information acquisition were implemented as a web application that takes as
input data from Scopus publications and data about publications from Mexico's national
repository. This repository is comprised of over 100 institutional repositories located
throughout Mexico. The output of the indicator calculation for research groups and
researchers is then saved in the database, and queries are run to calculate the research
groups' and researchers' indicators. A study of UADY researcher collaborations was
conducted using graph theory, and the authors provide graphs for each to summarize the
status in the paper.

This article is written by Jared David Tadeo Guerrero-Sosa, Víctor Hugo Menéndez-
Domínguez and María Enriqueta Castellanos-Bolaños that focusing on an indexing system
for the relevance of academic production and research from digital repositories and metadata
to propose a set of quantitative statistical indicators for measuring the scientific relevance of
research groups and researchers, based on high-impact open-access digital production
repositories. For me, the authors have created a very useful and detailed article, as well as
conducted extensive research to produce this best work. All the information entered is
extremely accurate and beneficial to readers. In the future, it will be necessary to define an
indicator that measures the usefulness of citations from a research group and a researcher,
to adjust the definition of the indicator model to values ranging from 0 to 100, and, as a result,
to make decisions and evaluations that require the use of the proposed indicators more
transparent and understandable. Finally, other data sources, such as Google Scholar and
Web of Science, can help to broaden the research landscape.

As a conclusion, the authors' paper presented a set of indicators for measuring the
relevance of research groups and researchers, based on the products stored in indexed and
open access publication repositories. The indicators proposed here are based on the type of
publication, the degree of collaboration, and, to a lesser extent, non-indexed production for
both research groups and researchers. By use of web services and an interoperability protocol
between OAI-PMH repositories was proposed for the recovery of scientific production, and an
action research methodology consisting of five phases, from problem scenario definition to
result publication, was used throughout the investigation process.
