BSED English 3rd Year Summer CREATIVE WRITING

Research the following topics:

1. What is creativity?
Creativity is the practice of thinking outside the box. It is equally important
as a means of adaptation. This skill empowers students to see concepts in a
different light, which leads to innovation. Creativity is the ability to produce new,
diverse, and unique ideas. Thinking creatively means looking at things from a
different perspective and not be restricted by rules, customs, or norms. While
creativity is often treated like a you-have-it-or-you-don’t quality, students can
learn how to be creative by solving problems, creating systems, or just trying
something they haven’t tried before. It means students will be able to look at a
problem from multiple perspectives — including those that others may not see.

2. Creativity as a 21st Century Skill

21st Century creativity skills
 Use a wide range of idea creation techniques (such as brainstorming)
 Create new and worthwhile ideas (both incremental and radical
concepts)
 Elaborate, refine, analyze, and evaluate their own ideas in order to
improve and maximize creative efforts.
 Develop, implement and communicate new ideas to others effectively.
 Be open and responsive to new and diverse perspectives; incorporate
group input and feedback into the work.
 Demonstrate originality and inventiveness in work and understand the
real-world limits to adopting new ideas.
 View failure as an opportunity to learn; understand that creativity and
innovation is a long-term, cyclical process of small successes and
frequent mistakes.
 Act on creative ideas to make a tangible and useful contribution to the
field in which the innovation will occur.
3. What is creative writing?
 Creative writing is an expressive form of literature; one which demands
you to use your own creativity, imagination and story to portray a particular
message, emotion, or plot. It defies the traditional bounds of other forms of
writing and is completely subjective to our own preferences and
experiences.
 creative writing can technically be considered any writing of contemporary,
original composition – it’s bound by no standard conventions and uses a
whole range of elements in its craft. In an academic setting, creative
writing is typically divided into fiction, poetry, or scriptwriting classes, with
a focus on writing in an original style, not defined by pre-existing
structures and genres.
4. Purposes and Benefits of Creative Writing
 The purpose of creative writing is to deal with challenging emotions,
writing creatively can help you analyze the reasons behind your feelings,
giving a clear understanding of your perspective.
 Practicing creative writing is about a lot more than just improving your
grammar, spelling and vocabulary; it will allow you to develop your own
unique voice and share your perspective without limitations, expressing
how you feel about the worlds inside and outside of your head. When you
engage in creative writing, you’re stimulating your imagination and thinking
outside the box, which teaches you how to think more innovatively and
push boundaries. Both are valuable skills.
