A wrong selection of lamp processing or

lamp recycling equipment;
will not only affect the
environment and the people…..

…but it will also affect the

company that made the
wrong decision

Historical Background of the Project.

After many years of hard work, long studies and engineering; the Uruguayan company
ABORGAMA started the selection and purchasing process to buy a mercury containing
lamp recycling plant model MP4000 manufactured by BALCAN ENGINEERING Ltd (United
Kingdom) with the final purpose to recycle in a proper manner Fluorescent Tubes, CFL and
similar bulbs or lamps.

The equipment model MP4000 is from now on part of the first plant in all Latin America
and in the Caribbean basin designed specifically with last generation equipments with the
final purpose to recycle lamps and tubes and some elements which use Mercury.

The unit arrived to Uruguay in January of 2020 just at the beginning of the COVID 19. The
COVID delayed the installation and commissioning of the equipment/machinery. Finally on
May 2022 it was possible to coordinate the installation and operation/test of the MP4000
and now ABORGAMA is handling the final legal steps to get the operation permits.

Who is ABORGAMA?
As you can learn from the web page ( www.aborgama.com ) it is a specialized company for
handling and processing of all types of Municipal, Hospital and Industrial waste. It
operates Landfills and manages “BioGas to Energy” plants. It is a company with plenty of
experience in this area.

The company shows a big respect for the environment and its futuristic view is part of the
reason why they decided to invest in the first plant in all Latin America designed
specifically to recycle for Mercury containing lamps. It is to mention, that the ABORGAMA
plant will process other elements with mercury like thermometers, mercury switch, etc.

Actual status of the Lamp Recycling Plant in Uruguay (Aborgama)

Once all the modules were connected the training process and calibration of the MP4000
equipment designed by Balcan started. Al this was done with the Balcan staff on site.

To get from Uruguayan Government the final permits who allow operating the lamp
recycling plant, the company Aborgama is working on all the legal paperwork. Once the
permits are granted the company will have to official opening to start cleaning Uruguay.

Short description of the MP4000 Unit

The MP4000 Balcan patented recycling unit use two (2) material entrances. One of them is
the “Multipurpose” one and the other one is the crusher specifically designed to crush
fluorescent tubes. The processed debris goes through some separation sections and by
the end it reaches de exit modules were you harvest the metals, clean glass and white
powder with has the mercury on it plus the rare earth which is part of the powder too.

The Multipurpose loader

In the mentioned videos you can see this section. It can receive the entire or crushed
lamps. They can be feed into a Drum or in bulk using the square container. The Feedstock
will go into the first processing unit by flipping the main box as you see on the picture.

Fluorescent tubes crusher section.

This is a unit designed specifically to crush fluorescent tubes up to 8’. As can be seen on
the video; the operator can introduce more than 8 tubes in one movement; this depends
on the size of the hand of the operator. This unit has the biggest productivity potential
compared to other equipment with similar use. By detailed check of the equipment you
can note the highest possible ergonomic level in benefit of the worker. It shows a very
important quality; the crushing process start having the system sealed, working in
negative pressure compared to the surrounding environment plus other benefits.

The operator takes

from the Drum or
storage box as much
tubes as his Hand size
allows

SECURITY ERGONOMICS

The worker introduces the

tubes into the crusher.
Once he retires the hand a
port close starting the
crushing process.

Material exit modules

You can find five exits for the recovered material. Three of them are the most important
once because from those you will get clean glass, metals and the White Powder
