Hiking's popularity has risen to greater levels in recent years. Spending as much time in
the mountains as possible has been the norm these days. Even most weekend warriors
rewarding journey. The province of Rizal has become a popular destination for
mountaineers.
Rock of Pegasus is located in Barangay San Roque, Tanay, Rizal. We did an interview
with the admin of the Rock of Pegasus’s page, and we have come to know that this
tourism destination started to operate way back April 23, 2021. According to Ms. Olivia,
admin of the page, it was named “Rock of Pegasus” because the place is surrounded by
rock formation, and the Pegasus from its name represents the Statue of Pegasus they
have put in the location. The said Statue became the trademark of the place. One of the
things here that you must know is that the place is being handled by the Dumagats, one
to the groups of indigenous peoples living in the mountains of Aurora, Rizal, and Quezon
provinces in the northern region of Luzon. Aside from managing the place, the
Dumagats are also the tour guides at Rocks of Pegasus. The Guide Fees that are being
collected each day are all given directed to the Dumagats Guide.
Rock of Pegasus will fall under the Modernization Theory. Not just the
beauty of the view is what you will see in Rocks of Pegasus but also the
beauty of how they operate. This destination helps those people living near

in a way that, the destination needs some development in some parts of the
area. This place offers jobs for the native people living near the area and they
would benefit a lot if there will be some upgrades because tourists will see
The tourism Planning Platform in Rock of Pegasus would fit into the “Advocacy
Platform”. This platform focuses on the positive effects and impacts of tourism in an area.
Tourism was also considered an instrument for cultural development and as something that
indigenous places have a profound ethnic culture as well as ecological significance and
sensitivity, successful tourism development must include local community perceptions in order
to form a cooperative relationship based on respect and trust in order to gain local approval and
support. Advocacy Platform depicts tourism as a “clean industry” or anything that does not emit
hazardous compounds that could pollute the environment. Rocks of Pegasus is a great example
of this platform since the destination limits the tourists who can visit. Only 100 people can visit
the destination every day. CLAYGO is being promoted and there are also no other businesses
near the area that can cause destruction to the place. With all of these being stated, it means
the placemakese sure that the environment is protected and being preserved.
formation. This place is fragile and must be kept in preservation. So, the best approach for
Rocks of Pegasus is the 'Middle Path Approach' because it is the polar opposite of boosterists.
Boosters need more tourists to generate revenue for their tourists, but the Rocks of Pegasus
the place safe and preserved, the people who are handling the place must make sure
Another Tourism Planning Approach that could fit Rocks of Pegasus is the
protection and area development. And this approach uses the concept of carrying
capacity in the tourism planning process. This is where the maximum number of people
may visit the tourist destination at the same time without causing the destruction of the
Rocks of Pegasus as almost the same was on how the destination works. It has a
carrying capacity of 100 people each day, it also promotes CLAYGO to make sure that
Trickle-Down Theory is what we chose because we believe that this theory best fits the Rocks of
Pegasus among all of the definitions of theories. Trickle-Down Theory’s Definition applies to our
chosen destination which is the economic growth create a significant change and this can be
observed in Rocks of Pegasus because of how they create a job opportunity by hiring natives
and locals. This way they were able to improve the lives of everyone affected.
Rocks of Pegasus is the best example of an Advocacy Platform because it gives a positive
impact on tourism. The place does not only take good care of the place for their own good
but also preserves it for the future. The said attraction is a nature-friendly type of destination,
because of its ambiance and how it is being operated. It invokes thought and conversation
about those cultures as well as our own, and it has the power to reflect and shape our
society as they were able to create an opportunity for the natives and locals.
Middle Path Approach and Environmental Approach are both fits in Rocks of Pegasus. As
Middle Path Approach minimizes the negative impacts of tourism by minimizing the number of
people who can visit the place and the Environmental Approach maximizes the number of
people to make sure that there will be no harm to the place, and it will still be preserved.
PHASE 2:
Hybrid Strategy
As we all know, Rock of Pegasus needs a lot of improvement when it comes to its activities,
amenities, facilities, and accommodation. The place has potential, and this strategy will be
perfect for it. This strategy enables the sale of products at lower prices than competitors while
providing higher product quality. Rock of Pegasus doesn’t have comfortable accommodation
and there is a lack of activities and food restaurants. So, we can think of any unique activities
that will also be suitable for the destination. We can also build much better accommodation for
tourists, as well as food restaurants or stalls. Improving the place itself while maintaining its
low price will be in focus. For tourists to afford the place as well as the services there, it should
be offered at a lower price than other competitors. After focusing on improving the places and
building some facilities and services, it will have a chance to be featured on social media, and
many tourists will know about its existence.
Focus Strategy
Since the place of Rock of Pegasus is perfect for having a picnic and relaxation and the
visitor’s specific goal is for their enjoyment and peace. This strategy allows to identify the
specific needs and develop the product that the market needs. The picnic area or camping
area should be developed to provide the tourists chance to both relax and interact in a wide-
open area. Businesses can benefit from this strategy by paying closer attention to consumer
needs and developing products that are genuinely needed. We can create a product and
service for the target customers which is the hikers. Aside from improving the picnic/camping
area, the improvement of the picnic tables, cottages, tents, and comfortable rooms is the key
to attracting the visitors and providing them a comfortable and amazing stay. Having a focus
strategy is a great opportunity to capture the markets with unmet demands and the benefit of
this strategy is that it will help Rock of Pegasus to become a dominant player in the market.
