TOPIC: DESCRIPTIVE METHOD

Research denotes a methodical examination of a specific subject or problem using

scientific methodologies. It requires an organized analysis that can be either inductive or
deductive and one of them is methodology.

So how does methodology work? The underlying plan and logic of your research study is
referred to as methodology. It entails researching the methods employed in your profession, as
well as the theories or principles behind them, in order to design a strategy that is tailored to your
goals.

The descriptive method is an example of a methodology you can use in doing your
research that defines the properties of the variables being studied. This focuses on answering
questions regarding “what” rather than "why." It focuses on merely describing the characteristics
of the demographics under examination.

There are three descriptive research methods specifically: observation, survey, and case
study. Quantitative observations involve objectively gathering data that is basically numerical in
nature, whereas qualitative observations focus on the features of a phenomenon without
including numerical measurements. The survey method encompasses surveys or questionnaires
to record the responses of respondents. Polls can also be included in surveys. They are the most
often used method of gathering market research data. A case study is an in-depth examination of
an individual or a group. Case studies frequently result in the creation of a hypothesis to further
investigate a phenomenon. Case studies have a limited scope because they do not allow the
researcher to draw causal inferences or make precise predictions.
