A couple of years ago you set off to sail

your boat was hit by lightning. The boat
sank and you had to swim to safety.
Student C
Last year you set off to climb Everest with
your brother. Unfortunately ten metres from
the summit your brother slipped and fell.
You were tied together, so you both fell over
1,000 metres. Your brother broke his leg and
you both had to be rescued.
Student E
You used to play the guitar. A few years
ago you were on your way to an audition
to become the Rolling Stones’ new guitarist.
Unfortunately while you were getting out
of the taxi, the driver closed the door too
quickly and broke two of your fingers.
Student G
You used to be an actor/actress. A few
years ago you were asked to audition for a
major role in The Lord of the Rings films.
Unfortunately on the day of the audition you
got food poisoning and were too ill to go, so
somebody else got the part.
Student I
Last June you won a travel competition. The
prize was an all-expenses-paid trip around
the world leaving on July 1st. Unfortunately
the letter telling you that you had won got
lost in the post and you didn’t get it until
July 2nd.

You spent eight years writing a novel that
you were sure would become a best-seller.
Unfortunately the day you finished writing it,
your house burnt down. Your computer and
all your back-up copies of the novel were
completely destroyed in the fire.
Student D
A few years ago you won a local singing
competition. The prize was an appearance
on a popular live TV show. Unfortunately on
the day of the show you completely lost your
voice and couldn’t even speak, so you missed
your chance to appear on the show.
Student F
Two months ago you picked the winning
lottery numbers. The jackpot that day was
over £10 million. Unfortunately while you
were celebrating with your parents, their dog
ate your lottery ticket – so you didn’t win
anything at all.
Student H
Last December you set off to walk to the
South Pole alone. Unfortunately just a few
miles from the Pole your compass broke and
you didn’t know which way to go. You got
completely lost and had to be rescued by
helicopter.
Student J
You used to be a fantastic tennis player,
and you won the junior championship
at Wimbledon when you were 16.
Unfortunately one day you fell off your
scooter and broke your wrist. You haven’t
been able to play tennis since.
