NTPC/SMPP OPERATION DEPARTMENT REV:0.

00
AREA- TG MDBFP Isolation & Normalization
UNIT-1/2 Procedure Date: 01.10.2010

1. PURPOSE:-
This document is prepared to guide the operating personnel while isolating and thereafter normalizing the
MDBFP of stage - I Units.

2. SCOPE:-
This shall be applicable to both units of stage - I (2x500MW units), NTPC Simhadri.

3. INTRODUCTION:-
To cater to the feed water requirement of the boiler, three boiler feed water pumps have been provided (Two
Turbine driven BFPs & One Motor driven BFP). During normal operation, both TDBFPs remain in service
and MDBFP remains as standby on auto. MDBFP is generally used during unit start up or shut down, low
load operation of the Unit or during emergency situations. This document deals with the total isolation and
normalization procedure of MDBFP.

TDE/UCE/SCE

6. ISOLATION PROCEDURE:-
6.1. PRECONDITION:-
a. MDBFP is unloaded and stopped. Discharge valve and its IBV are closed.

6.2. MDBFP ISOLATION PROCEDURE:-

6.2.1.ELECTRICAL SIDE ISOLATIONS:
a. Isolate the 11 KV supply of main motor (U#1-1BB Bus, Panel 2; U#2 -2BB Bus, Panel 2)
b. Isolate the supply of discharge valve. (U#1-1KB-12Q module, U#2 2KB-12Q module)

6.2.2.FEED WATER SIDE ISOLATION

a. Close the discharge valves FD-4/ FD-5 and its IBV and isolates the power supply.
b. Close the Super heater & Reheater spray manual isolating valves at 8.5M.
c. Close the recirculation control valve & Recirculation manual valve. (Deaerator floor.).
d. Close the booster pump suction valve at 8.5M.
e. Open the Feed water side vents (Super heater & Reheater spray line, suction strainer,
booster pump & main pump casing vents).
f. Open the Feed water side drains (Super heater & Reheater spray line, suction strainer, main
pump suction conical strainer, main pump discharge valve up stream & recirculation control valve
downstream drain).
g. Check for the complete depressurization by observing the booster pump suction pressure.
h. Close pump mechanical seal and jacket cooling water line valves (if required).
i. Close Ammonia dosing valve.

6.2.3.OIL SIDE ISOLATION

a. Stop AOP
b. isolate AOP supply (Module 1DG-14S for Unit-1; Module 2DG-14S for Unit-2)

LOCKING BY CHAIN:
i. Recirculation manual valve at deaerator floor.
ii. Booster pump suction valve at 8.5M
iii. Super heater & Reheater spray manual valves at 8.5M.

8. MDBFP IS READY FOR TAKING I/S

Important points while taking MDBFP I/S

• Inform the other units regarding MDFP being taken I/S to avoid parallel activities in 11 KV bus
• Note Starting Current, Normal Current and Dip in 11 KV Bus
2
• Open the BFP discharge valve at 60 kg/cm of discharge pressure
• Record all TSI and other parameters before and after rolling.
• Feed water side drain/vent valves are to be tightly closed before attaining full pressure.
• Open Ammonia dosing valve.
