MICE& MYSTICS FAQ

(compilation from PHG forum and BGG)

1.1.0 Items, Spells, and Inventory

Q: When a mouse transforms into a cheddar golem, does he still use weapons and armor?
A: No, cheddar golem replaces weapons and armor. The mouse attacks in melee while in golem form.

Q: Some of the scroll cards don't say exactly how they are used and when you get rid of them. So on the scroll
cards that don't say what happens after they are used are you supposed to discard them? and do scrolls cost your
action to use or do you use them for free?
A: Scrolls are one use items. They are used as a free action unless the card says otherwise. Discard the scroll
after using it.

Q: In campaign play, can a mouse give his starting equipment to another mouse? Lets say that Collin gave his
leather breast plate to Nez. and at the end of the level Nez decided that he wanted to keep the leather breast plate
as his one item to carry over to the next level. And since you always start a level with your starting equipment
would Collin get another leather breast plate?
A: A mouse must start with its starting equipment. If this exchange does not break that rule, you may do this.

Q: When equipping single handed weapons like the dagger, can a mouse equip two of them since they only take
up one paw spot? Or can they not because the same paw is "glowing" on the equipping picture? The rules sound
like you can, but then shields have the opposite paw "glowing".
A: Mice may equip two single paw weapons, but you can only attack with one weapon per attack and therefore
only receive the bonus and ability of the chosen weapon.

Q: When equipping/putting items in a pack, can you do a direct "switch", such as changing a sword? I ask
because, what if a mouse's pack is full? Would one have to discard an item before un-equipping a weapon? The
friendly nature of the game makes me believe a swap would be allowed.
A: Yes.

Q: Can the mice use the Tattered Threads of Reason to choose the Meeps ability card before chapter four?
A: No

Q: When Searching, can an item be instantly equipped, in case the pack is full?
A: No, if the pack is full something will need to be discarded.

Q: Is the Spear misprinted to say a bow and a "hit" symbol instead of just a bow? Because it doesn't make any
sense how you could make a ranged attack with the spear, do damage, and not lose the spear.
A: Not a misprint

Q: Do "Disguises" fool Elite Rat Warriors?

A: No.

Q: The Fishhook and Thread/Dinner Fork rules state that a mouse can use an action to remove the token from the
board. Is this the same action point that is used to Scurry, Battle, Search, etc, or is it a separate, free action?
A: No this is your action, not a free action. You do this instead of battle, search, scurry, recover, or one of your
abilities that use an action.

Q: can Dodge be used after the movement step of a minion who didn't move?
A: no it is supposed to reflect his spatial avoidance. It relies on somebody moving.

Q: Stun says I can only use the recover action. Can I take free actions after recovering?
A: Yes you can

Q: when using the spell “mystic bolt power” for maginos, it says that it's battle value for the attack is three, so if
you use magino's staff is his total battle for that attack 4?
A: No the victims are attacked by the spell not his staff. In fact he doesn't need the staff to use the spell.

Q:When using the teleport scroll, do all mice move to the same space until its full or do you get to choose a
differant space for each mouse if desired?
A:They can all go to different spaces.

Q: Using items is, oddly, slightly ill-defined. This came up, particularly, with a Teleport Scroll on Maginos. Can he
use this repeatedly? Does it require an action, or is it a free action? I'm thinking he CAN use it repeatedly, and it
does use his action for the turn, mainly because it doesn't say to discard the card on use, and it doesn't state (like
some ability cards) that it's a free action to use. Am I correct?
EDIT TO ADD: Pages 16, 25, and 27 of the Storybook confirm that Scrolls are 1-use items. What about other
items, as well? Also, my other question remains: does this use an action for the turn? Are scrolls the only one-use
items other than items that say "Discard this when used?"
A: Scrolls are single use items that require a free action to use. (this could be clearer)

Q: Also, does the Slicing Dagger count as a dagger for Prehensile Tail and Knife Strike?
A- yes

Q:How does Slow work against Brodie? Can it paralyze one of his initiative cards? Both? Neither?
A: just one of his cards would be affected.

1.2.0 Minions and the Cheese Wheel

Q: When a surge happens, what do you do with the cheese on the minion wheel?
A: Remove all cheese from the minion wheel and begin the cycle again.

Q: When a mouse rolls cheese while defending against an attack from a roach, can that roach steal that cheese?
A: Yes, when cheese is rolled, it is placed in the mouse's stash or the minion wheel immediately.

Q: If there are 5 cheeses on the minion cheese wheel and then a Rat Warrior rolls a cheese while unsuccessfully
defending against Filch (who has the Pilfer ability), what is the result?
A: As mentioned before, cheese results always happen first. In this case, the cheese rolled by the minion would
trigger the surge forcing Filch to take a cheese from the general supply.

Q: If a minion initiative card has no hearts on it, how many wounds does the minion have?
A: Minion initiative cards that do not have hearts on them represent groups of minions. Each figure in that group
has a single life point.

Q: Do mice/minions only gain cheese from rolls when attacking and defending, or can they gain cheese from any
die roll (moving, searching, etc)?
A: You gain cheese from attacking, defending, special abilities see Colin's card for example, and if you throw back
a piece fo equipment found in the search deck. The only rolls that give cheese are attack and defend.

Q: Is it possible for 2 normal surges to occur on one tile? I ask because of the rules on resolving surges and
discarding the encounter card.
A: Yes, but the 2nd surge only advances the hourglass marker. You do not get more minions.

Q: when a charmed mouse rolls cheese on attack or defense does that cheese go to the minion wheel?
A: When a mouse becomes charmed, they become a minion for that turn!!! Any cheese rolled goes on the minion
wheel.

Q: If the minion cheese wheel is at 5, and 2 cheese are earned simultaneously, does the extra cheese transfer to
the next wheel, or get discarded?
A:The extra cheese gets removed, along with all the cheese in the minion cheese wheel.

Q: If a surge of 2 rats triggers in the middle of a rat turn, do the new rats get to participate in the turn?
A: Yes

Q: So does the "Time is Short!" rule (+1 cheese to the minion wheel if there are no minions on the board) apply
when the only minion on the board is one of Lily's roaches?
A: yes

Q: When placing minions whos card is already on the track before the encounter, do you still roll for ambush?
A: No, not necessary.

Q: If conducting a Special Setup, since no encounter card is drawn, does that mean no minions occur during a
surge?
A: That is correct, barring if there is a tile-specific surge in that tile.
Q: When the roaches are moving to the grape, does the first roach get there eat it all? Or do all roaches
move/battle first, then any that are eating the grape get discarded?
A: All the roaches that can reach the grape will go to it, eat it, and die.

Q: Can the feint ability be used on brodie?

A: Yes.

Q:Is it an automatic kill when attacking roaches lower on the initiative track with a dagger? ie no defense roll is
made?Roaches only have (1) defense dice.Dagger is (-1) defense to minion lower in the initiative track.
A: You still have to roll a hit with your attack but yes in that case the roach can't defend.

Q: Since the mice do not require line of sight to launch the grape, can the grape be launched "through walls" such
as the black spaces in the tunnels? (and does the same go for rats throwing the grape?)
A:No

Q: If there are two figures on Brodie's space and one figure on another space when he pounces, which space
does he pounce on? The rules say he will pounce on his own space if no other spaces have figures on them.
Does that mean he will only pounce on his own space if no other spaces have figures on them?
A: Brodie will pounce on the space with the most mice. That last line on Brodie pounce is to prevent a single figure
from hiding on Brodie's paw and to signify that he can pounce on his same space. Jumping all your mice on his
paw is not a viable way to avoid pounce.

Q: When the cat spawns, where does his claw initially go? The order we drew the initiative cards was “Brodie
Chases” and then “Brodie Pounces.” However, with Brodie Chases the cat paw was not on the board so we could
not decide from where the chase would initially begin. So we just skipped “Brodie Chases” attack until the first
pounce put the claw on the board.
A: Just like a big minion. Put it in the entry spot closest to a mouse. Note the "paw" can be in a space with other
figures on like a normal big creature.

Q: I wanted to check if there was a limit of 1 surge per tile. In other words, if you already had a surge and the
wheel got filled up again, does the surge happen again?
A: There is a surge each time the minion cheese wheel fills up with 6 or more cheese tokens.

Quote:
Each time 1 or more cheese symbols are rolled when attacking or defending with a minion, add 1 cheese token to
the minion cheese wheel for each cheese rolled. When there are no minions on the board and the last mouse on
the initiative track ends its turn, add a cheese token to the minion cheese wheel. When the minion cheese wheel
fills up with 6 or more cheese tokens, a surge triggers. Follow these steps to resolve its effect:

1. Move the hourglass marker one page closer to the chapter end marker along the chapter track on the story
control board.
2. Check the chapter instructions. If there is a special surge rule for the room the mice are currently in, follow the
instructions.
3. If there are no chapter-specific surge instructions, follow the surge effect on the face-up encounter card that is
on the encounter deck and then discard that card.
4. If there are no room-specific surge rules and no face-up encounter card, no minions are placed for this surge,
but the hourglass marker is still moved.
5. After resolving the surge, remove all cheese from the minion cheese wheel.

If a surge requires minion figures to be placed, and there are not enough of those figures available, place as many
as possible and ignore the rest.

You still have to follow all 5 steps each time there is a surge. If the room has a special surge rule, you'll trigger that
with each surge. If it doesn't, you trigger the surge on the encounter card and then discard the encounter card. If
there is no special surge rule and no encounter card, the surge happens, but no new minions are placed. You still
advance the hourglass marker one page closer to the end of the chapter.

Q: When advanced the HOUR-GLASS counter?

A: In the following cases:

1) SURGE: Time advances each time the cheese wheel fills up.

When the minion cheese wheel fills up with 6 or more cheese tokens, a surge triggers. Follow these steps to
resolve its effect:

2)Also, the hourglass advances each time a mouse gets captured.

Remove that mouse’s figure from the game board, discard all of that mouse’s cheese tokens and all of the search
cards the captured mouse currently has equipped (starting equipment and any items in its pack are safe and do
not need to be discarded), remove all wounds, poison wounds and other negative markers from that mouse’s card
and move the hourglass marker 1 page closer to the chapter
end marker along the chapter track.

Q: When CHAPTER TRACK is moved?

A: The Chapter Track also moves when the following happens: Individual Achievements.

Cheesemaster
The first mouse that rolls 3 or more cheese in 1 attack or defense roll receives the Cheesemaster
achievement token.
Effect: Move the chapter end marker one page further on the chapter track. Each time the Cheesemaster
rolls 1 or more cheese on a defense roll, give 1 cheese to each active mouse.

Roachmaster
The first mouse that defeats 4 roaches in a single encounter receives the Roachmaster achievement
token.
Effect: Move the chapter end marker one page further on the chapter track. For the rest of the chapter,
roaches on the same tile as the Roachmaster are not considered greedy.

Scaper
The first mouse that is captured twice in a chapter receives the Scaper achievement token.
Effect: Move the chapter end marker one page further on the chapter track. If the Scaper is captured a
third time, it is immediately rescued and does not lose any equipped search cards. All other captured
rules still take effect, such as all cheese and wounds being removed.

Q: Can the End Marker go past page 9 through various individual achievements and tricks?
A: I have never seen this. I don't know.

Q: A timing concern. Roaches steal cheese if possible when they hit a mouse. Say that a roach is attacking for a
possible 1 damage. What if the mouse's player rolls a cheese on defense but no shields? Does the player gain
and then immediately lose the cheese, or does the player take 1 damage then gain a cheese?
A:Cheese is always earned immediately, so if you are defending against a roach and happen to roll a cheese, that
roach can eat that cheese.

Q: Played 1st mission today, and loved it. We made it to the last tile, looking good, but the crow ate Collin and filch,
tilda and nez killed the elite rats, but not before a centipede came out, and he proceeded to kill tilda and push us
past the end marker.
But to the rules question... In the kitchen, we quickly killed the floor roaches, but were left with 6 on the counter.
They weren't rolling Any cheeses, and it seemed fairly suicidal to move up to attack them.
But looking At the scenario, I found a bit of a loophole. The roaches attack is a mouse is ON the counter. It
seemed like we could just park our mice on the space next to the counter (the top of the broom), and stab them in
safety.
However, this seemed way too easy. Was this the intent of the designer in this part if the scenario?
A: We have been playing that you can't attack across yellow with melee. As I understand it, the yellow arrow
represents the cost of climbing up the broomstick. If you're standing at the top of the broomstick, then you've
already climbed up it and are effectively standing on the counter. Thus I think you should not be able to attack
against the yellow arrow. The same applies in the reverse, in the direction of the yellow arrow. A mouse standing
on the counter can easily slide down the broomstick to attack a minion at the bottom, but they can't simply wave
their sword around from the counter and somehow hit a minion standing on the floor.

Q: When the rules talk about Brodie's attacks, it always uses the word "figures" instead of "mice". My
interpretation then is that Brodie will attack anything (minions, centipedes, etc). Is that correct?
A: Exactly. For example, in scenario 1, Brodie can help the mice by wiping out massed roaches.

Q: I am a little confused as to how Brodie works. Does he have any effect on whether a mouse can leave a space
due to minions exceeding mice in a space?
A: Brodie counts toward the minion count for that space. Let's say Maginos, and a roach are on Brodie. Maginos
cannot leave that space because he is outnumbered.

Q: When the last mouse in the initiative track defeats the last minion on a tile, does a cheese get added to the
minion wheel directly after that mouses turn?
A: If the last mouse on the track ends its turn and there are no minions, place a cheese.

Q: when a mouse puts multiple wounds on an enemy with more than one initiative card can wounds be spread out
among both cards (example: a mouse hits brodie for 2 wounds. Are both of brodies initiative cards removed from
the track.)
A: No... That is just part of the challenge of bosses.

Q: Say there's 5 cheese on the minion cheese wheel. Filch attacks a Rat Warrior. Filch rolls one sword, and the
Rat rolls one cheese. The way we played it was that the cheese was added and the surge happened, and then
Filch killed the rat. Since there was then no cheese for him to take, Filch didn't get to use his ability. Is this
correct?
A: yes you guys played it correctly. Cheese is always added immediately.

Q: Is Brodie considered a "large minion"?

A: Yes

Q: Also, this is more of an opinion question, but is it fair, at the end of a chapter, to let the mice distribute their
search cards throughout the whole party and, if the mice have a total of 6 or more cheese, to let one of them take
a new ability? I implemented this house rule because otherwise it would have made things crazy complicated as
the end of the level approached as we would be trying to idealize distribution of items and cheese before meeting
the victory condition.
A: sounds cool to me

Q: Who is being attacked first?

A:
1) Are there multiple mice within range?
Yes) Proceed to step 2)
No) Attack!
2) Have any of the mice been attacked so far this turn?
Yes) Proceed to step 3)
No) Attack the mouse highest on the initiative track!
3) Attack the mouse highest on the initiative track that has not been attacked yet this turn. If all mice have been
attacked this turn, then attack the highest mouse on the initiative track.

Q:Whenever you encounter a boss minion and there already minions on the board, for example the Brodie surge
in chapter 1, does the first card of the two ambush? There's a discussion over on BGG whether they do or only in
circumstances where a boss might appear through the story aside from a surge and an encounter card has
ambush on it.
A: If brodie appears when there are already minions on the track, his first card ambushes, his second card goes
on the track at the bottom. If he appears when there are no minions on the track, reset the track by shuffling
Brodie's cards in with the mice and dealing them to the track.

Q: If there are two ranged minions , only one mouse adjacent to them, do they both attack that mouse, or does the
second mouse attack someone different?
A: If a figure that is attacking must first choose an adjacent enemy to attack if there are any presant even if it has a
ranged attack.

Q: And what happens when there's a surge and there aren't enough available minion entry spaces?
A:No place to put minions, they do not get placed.

Q: So I kinda want to get a second opinion on this because I feel as though I'm doing it incorrectly. Let's say, for
example, Maginos is last And he kills the last minion. We add a cheese to the wheel (because we play hardcore),
if this cheese were to cause a surge we would remix the cards to determine a new order because no minions are
out. Or, would we just add the new minions to the bottom of the track.
A: You would reshuffle the initiative track.

1.3.0 Character Abilities

Q: The rulebook says you can only use one ability card per turn. So can you use multiple abilities per round?
Could a mouse use an ability on his turn and then later in the same round use a defensive ability on an opponent’s
turn?
A: You can only use one ability per turn. This means that if you have an ability that you can use on another
figure's turn, that ability can only be used once during that other figure's turn. This counts for the whole group if
that figure belongs to a group represented by one card. Using an ability on another figure's turn, does not prevent
you from using an ability on your turn.

Q: Do multiple of the same abilities stack? If Filch had two daggers would he minus 2 defensive dice to enemies
below him on the initiative track?
A: multiple bonuses can stack, but you only use one weapon per attack, so two weapons do not stack abilities.

Q: Can two different mice have the same ability card?

A: Currently, there are no duplicate ability cards, so no for now.

Q: Does the tinkerer ability set trap only activate once, or does it last until the end of the encounter. Why is it so
weak?
A: Set trap only lasts for that instance, but there is an error on the set trap card. When rolling for each minion
affected by set trap, any star rolled will trigger the trap and immobilize that minion not just the star result with a
sword.

Q: When playing M&M as a campaign, and the game is usually played with four mice, what happens to the other
two mice? can they ever be switched in for another chapter? And wouldn't they be at a disadvantage by not
having as many ability cards?
A: Yes, all 6 mice will be used. In fact in 2 chapters, you use all 6 mice. It is probably best for the players to rotate
the mice they use. The power curve is not great in this game. Having more abilities is nice, but since you can only
use 1 a turn it shouldn't make that mice way more powerful than a staring mouse.

Q: Does a mouse always roll a die to move, even if they don't want to move that turn (in the event of the Dastardly
Old Crow perhaps?)
A: Yes.

Q:When mice hold melee weapons in hands and tail, all included bonus count during an attack, correct? Or is it
attack strength + one weapon bonus?
A: You only add the bonus for the weapon being used to make the attack. Unless you have the ability card that
allows you to use two weapons, you only use one at a time, no matter how many are equipped.

Q: About ability cards in general- what are the rules for using them on other mice/minions turns? can we use them
not during our turn?
A: Only ability cards that allow you to be used out of turn can be, ie Preemptive Shot. Abilities in any other case
should be seen as only happening during that specific mouses' turn who has the ability in question.

Q:When a player must "discard" a card, does that get shuffled back into the search deck or do we need to form a
separate discard pile?
A: When discarding a card, if it doesn't say to shuffle it back in, then it stays out for the remainder of that chapter.

Q:Does the bonus from multiple daggers stack?

A: No, since you can't attack with multiple weapons.

Q: If more hits are rolled than can possibly be blocked (2 hits against 1 defense die), are defense dice even
rolled? Obviously it's important in terms of cheese potential, and I know if no hits are rolled, no defense dice are
rolled.
A: if any hits are rolled, defense is rolled.

MAGINOS

Q: when Maginos's staff becomes a blunt weapon for melee attacks, does it lose the plus one bonus? The plus
one is over the bow symbol which makes me wonder if the bonus is only for ranged attacks.
A: Maginos still gets the bonus. Imagine that the bow symbol changes to a sword symbol as soon anytime
Maginos shares a space with a minion.
Q: When attacking a minion in the same space using Maginos' staff, do you still get the bonus listed on the card
for a ranged attack?
A: Yes, just imagine that the bow changes into a sword any time Maginos shares a space with minions.

Q: Similarly, Mouse Ability Cards. If they don't specify they are actions, do they replace your action for the turn?
Are they separate--being neither free actions nor actions? This especially matters for Meeps, Maginos' pet
ladybug.
A: If an ability card does not say it replaces an action, then use it any time on your turn like a free action. Meeps
as an example can just simply be used at any point in Maginos' turn.

Q: Maginos' staff states "When attacking a figure that is on the same space as this mouse, this staff is considered
a blunt melee weapon." . My question is, does Maginos still get the +1 battle bonus from the staff for a melee
attack even though the staff has the +1 ranged symbol on it?
A: Yes, he still gets the bonus, per the designer's answer on Plaid Hat Games' forum. Yeah, just imagine that the
bow symbol changes to a sword whenever he shares a space with a minion.

Q: does the bonus from Maginos' Staff (or other weapons) apply when Maginos uses attack spells?
A: No.

Q: Is Maginos allowed to select the "Meeps" ability even if he isn't saved yet? Because I didn't see a rule against it,
but chapter four seems to say no Meeps. Is that correct?
A: If you play a chapter as a one off, just abide by the rules of that particular chapter. If it doesn't say no Meeps,
then you can use it. If you are playing a campaign, you can't select Meeps until he is rescued. This and a couple
other special campaign rules are mentioned in the beginning of the story book.

TILDA

Q: Does Tilda's Mace get a bonus from herself if she is wounded?

A: Nope, the card apparently didn't make this clear.

Q: If Tilda is wounded, does that count toward her bonus when using her mace to attack?
A: No, only fellow wounded mice can add to Tilda's bonus.

Q: Good to know about Tilda's mace. This came up tonight in discussion. On a similar note, what about abilities
like First Aid, Major Heal, and Cure? These look for "a mouse in the same square," whereas another card (Tail
Link) references "1 other friendly mouse." Can such abilities like First Aid, etc., be used to heal the user, or must
they be used to heal someone else? If they can't heal the user, then it seems like the healer is amazingly fragile.
Similarly, Protect specifies "all mice in the same space as this mouse." Does that work on the Warrior using
Protect (and, similarly, a Healer using Fortify, which uses the same language)?
I'm guessing NOT to all of the above, since Dodge has to specify "any figure, including this one," and Tilda's mace
has the same wording as First Aid, etc. So, what's the official rule here for these cases?
A: Jerry said that the mace has a typo and should say other mice. The healing spells will work on Tilda.

COLLIN

Q: Does Collin get cheese when you place a minion from a surge onto the board (assuming he isn't first)?
A: He only gets cheese from Born to Lead when the initiative track is set (or reset). When a minion is added to an
initiative track that already contains minions, it is just added to the bottom, so Collin doesn't get cheese. If,
however, the board is empty of minions and a surge causes minions to appear, the whole initiative track is reset,
which can possibly trigger Born to Lead again.

FILCH

Q: if Filch has a bow in his paws and his dagger in his tail when he attacks an adjacent minion can he still use the
daggers effect?
A: If Filch attacks an adjacent minion while equipped with a bow and a dagger, he chooses which weapon to
attack with. I would choose the dagger for sure if the minion was lower on the initiative track.

Q: Can Filch use Dodge to move off of a tile with a minion even though the rules say you can't move off a tile with
a minion?
A: No

LILY
Q: Also in Lily's Tail, if the encounter card calls for 2 moustraps, and lily's occupying one, do you just proxy
something else in as the third moustrap?
A: Just slide the one out from under lily. It's just there for looks.

Q: If Lily chooses Preemptive shot and the roach is in clear LOS at the beginning of "Lily's Tail," can she use it
(since she has 1 cheese)?
A:Yes

Q: Lily's Explorer ability just refers to a tile that we haven't explored yet this chapter, right? It's not just tiles we've
never seen before?
A: Yes

Q: Can Lily use Preemptive Shot to attack a new minion even if another minion is adjacent to her?
A: No the regular targeting rules apply including LOS

1.4.0 Exploration and Special Rules

Q: when mice revisit a previously explored tile, do they draw another encounter card?
A: No, they only draw an encounter card, or encounter the chapter specific encounters, the first time they enter the
tile.

Q: Can a figure move from a special space (like the kitchen counter) to any space next to the special space (such
as a minion jumping down from the counter)?
A: Mice can never cross red lines, except with the fishhook and thread. Minions can cross red lines normally.

Q: When discarding a search card, do you only gain a cheese if it was just drawn, or can you save it, discard it
later, and still gain a cheese?
A: It has to be just drawn. You can't save it and discard it later and still get a cheese.

Q: When using an explore action to go from an orange side to a blue side (or vice versa) and the reverse side
doesn't match, has the mouse wasted it's explore action for the turn, or can it choose to use another action?
Similarly, can you check the underside of a tile before choosing to explore?
A:You can't explore unless there is a matching tile. I don't see why you couldn't look if you wanted to.

Q: If a mouse is in water and they place the fishhook and thread, can they get out of water with just 1 movement
point and ignore rules of getting out of water?
A: Using the Fishhook and Thread doesn't get to ignore all the rules of getting out of water. It's just that it treats
the ends of the token as being adjacent and that you still lose all your movement when moving out of water. The
thing that the Fishhook and Thread ignore is the necessity of a * on a die roll to leave from the water to land.

Q: Can a mouse explore when another mouse is currently captured? If so, is the captured mouse immediately
rescued or is he still considered captured until his turn comes around? If exploring causes additional minions to
spawn on the new tile, does this mean the captured mouse has to wait until these newly spawned minions have
been defeated to be rescued?
A: Yes you can explore. You have to clear the next room to rescue the captured mouse. Perhaps it is best to wait.

Q: Am i correct in thinking that the only time a card is ever returned to the search deck is when it is written on the
card that you do so?
A: Yes that is right. But between chapters the ones that were discarded are added back in.

Q: When making a search to find an abducted mouse, do you still find an item when you succeed?
A: As long as a mouse hasn't previously successfully searched already this tile, the mouse who successfully
searches gets an item, but the search is another action.

Q: If a mouse searches on a tile, flips to a new tile, and then flips back to the original tile, can that mouse search
that same tile again, or does the game remember that the mouse has already searched here?
A: The players remember that they already SUCCESSFULLY searched there.

Q: I fear I've been playing with a really stupid assumption. Can we move / attack diagonally? I realize now that I
don't remember the rulebook saying otherwise.
A: As long as the space is adjacent. If you are in doubt, place the mouses base between the two spaces, if the
base touches both spaces they are adjacent.
Q: When a mouse is captured by Abduction, do you move the hourglass marker forward? And do you still have to
kill all the baddies before you can rescue him, or does he just get rescued the first time a mouse successfully
searches?
A: Hourglass moves, baddies must be cleared, a successful search must happen, and in which case, you get no
search card, you get the captured mouse back as reward.

Q: On a water space, what happens at the end of a mouse's turn if the next space in the line of the current is full?
Normally a mouse would be moved one space downstream, but if the space is full, do you push someone out of
the space or just not move?
A: The space is full, they cannot move there.

Q: Can a mouse use a share action to give multiple other mice cheese, or can you just share with one other
mouse?
A: just one other mouse

Q: When a mouse is captured because of the abduction treachery card, is it rescued on it's turn after someone
makes a successful search, or right away when someone makes a successful search? also, does the board have
to be clear of minions like usual?
A: Yes, the only difference is that it requires a search.

Q: If a mouse has a duration effect going (such as Collin's Inspire), and that mouse dies, does the effect
continue?
A: No

Q: When a mouse is captured twice, they get the "scaper" achievement and the chapter end moves up one space.
Does this occur before or after the hourglass marker moves forward for their capture?
A: before

Q: When a mouse uses an explore action do all the mice have to be placed on the same space or can they be
spread out among the spaces adjacent to the explore space?
A: They all get placed on the same space.

Q: From the section on finishing one part of the campaign and starting another…Mice can keep only 1 search card
that they had at the end of the previous chapters. This 1 card is in addition to their starting equipment cards. Mice
will always begin a new chapter with their starting equipment cards. Is that 1 search card per mouse or 1 search
card for the party? We've been playing it as 1 per mouse, but is that correct, or is it not?
A: 1 per mouse. And starting stuff.

Q: Just one non-starting search card? I thought you discarded all equipped non-starting cards. Rule book says
'discard...all of the search cards the captured mouse currently has equipped (starting equipment and any items in
its pack are safe and do not need to be discarded)'. Does discard mean shuffle back into search deck? I thought
discarded search cards are removed from the game until the next chapter unless otherwise stated.
A: Yes, it is all of the mouse's search cards (usually just one) but not the starting equipment. They are discarded
then shuffled back in on the next chapter.

Q: And one general question about Mousetraps. My understanding is that the contents of tiles remain active even
if players aren't on them (as seen in Chapter 2 with Lily's tile). There have been several instances to date where
the mice have cleared tiles of minions without springing the Mouestraps there. Does this mean no other
Mousetraps can appear, or do you proxy in others with other bits of paper, tokens, etc. as the need arises?
A: My suggestion is that if you have trouble remembering keep a note pad around so you can record things like
mouse traps and what mice have searched successfully in a tile you will have to return to.

Q: If a space is full due to a large minion, can a small minion move through it?
A: No

General

Q: What are the thoughts about playing a campaign with only some rules? I personally think all mice should reset
after each chapter(losing all items/abilities), but keep any tokens like the one from chapter 1.
A: Mice do reset after each chapter, besides starting items, gained abilities and any 1 search item. If not playing a
campaign the setup would be starting items and whatever ability you have chosen, no extra items. Story
achievements do carry on from chapter to chapter, but individual achievements do not. (I know you probably
weren't asking for rule clarification, but I personally prefer to play the way the game has it. I like searching for the
fishhook and thread again, as if it isn't a special item...but needing to whip up a solution you may encounter. As for,
say the pie for gaining ms magies attention, that to me is more tied to the narrative and decisions made)

Ch 1

Q: In the kitchen tile, can a mouse on the ground see the top of the special counter space? I ask because of the
Dinner Fork catapulting rules and ranged attacks on the roaches eating cheese.
A: Yes

Q: When in the kitchen in Flight to Barksburg, sometimes when you kill a roach Mz. Maggie whacks you upside
the head and the roach goes to the countertop. My question is: does this still count as having killed a roach for the
purposes of getting the "Roachmaster" achievement?
A: Yes it counts.

Q: In the first chapter, in the kitchen, the room starts with cheese on the counter. If the roaches do not eat it all,
can the mice pick up the extra cheese? Would this be a search action?
A: The mice cannot have this cheese. (although I have been known to give it to the mice if they are needing it)

Q: In chapter 1 kitchen’s special surge, if we defeat the cat but then another surge occurs, does the cat spawn
again?
A: No

Q: On the Sewer Tile - can you move/attack diagonally between the water squares?
A: Yes

Q: And lastly, I know this one has been asked a couple of times, but can someone clarify what happens when you
use hook and line while in water. Do you still have to roll to get out of the water?
A: no you do not have to roll to get out if you use the hook and thread.

Q: To win chapter 1, do the mice simply need to get to the tree or do they need to get to the tree and do an
explore action, meaning all minions on the tile would need to be defeated? If they just need to get to the tree, does
it matter if there are mice who are captured?
A: To beat Chapter 1, you need to clear the courtyard of minions and make it to the tree. The old dastardly crow
can help clear those minions so don't forget to account for that.

Ch 2
Q: Just finished chapter 2 the cheese wheel had one space left and the story marker was one spot away from the
end. Nez hit skitter-clak (the last minion) for 3 hits, the defence roll was 1 defence and a cheese, killing Skitter-
clack.....so my question is, does Skitter-Clak die ending the chapter in a victory or does the cheese go on the
wheel sending us to bitter defeat?
A: Always cheese gets added first in any case.

Q: Does Lily start chapters with 2 cheese, seeing as she is entering a new tile? Also, does she simply not roll/stop
for mousetraps, or just not suffer the effects when she springs them?
A: Lily doesn't start with 2 cheese as she is beginning on that tile and not exploring it as a new tile. She can move
beyond mouse traps similarly to minions.

Ch 3

Q: Chapter three, in the kitchen- the special search says "Dinner fork or Disguises", does that mean you can only
get one, or can a different mouse search again and get the other?
A: you choose one or the other but not both.

Q: Chapter 3, in the Alchemist Chamber - can you only find one scroll or can you search each of the special
search spots?
A: just one scroll

Ch 5
Q: Chapter 5 was kinda confusing to us. The only goal was to beat Brodie, either by calling him in the Kitchen or
forcing him from the Boss deck? It seemed like a lot of peoples strategy is to just fish him out of the boss deck in
the Dinning Room. Also, if there's 5 cheese on the cheese wheel, hourglass is 1 space away from The End
Marker, and the last enemy is on the board to win the Chapter, and the enemy rolls a cheese on defense, do the
mice lose or win? It was such a hard fought battle we decided it was a victory.
A: When a minion rolls cheese on defense the cheese is added to the wheel before the enemy is defeated. So in
this case the mice lose this chapter. This is not always a bad thing, example: a spider rolls cheese, surge
triggered calling for a spider, but the spider is still on the board so no minions are placed. After you check surge
results the spider takes its wounds and is possibly defeated.

Q: I played through Chapter 5 tonight, "Cat 'n' Mouse," and we were unsure if the text and pictures in the rulebook
are in error on page 23.
The book calls for the Alchemist's Chamber, Kitchen Tunnels, and Dining Hall Tunnels to be placed horizontally,
with the Forge placed below the Dining Hall Tunnels.
However, this gives no direct access between the Forge and the Dining Hall Tunnels.
The flip-side of the Forge, which is The Queen's Chamber, does align with the flip-side of the Dining Hall Tunnels,
which is the Dining Hall. The Queen's Chamber does not seem to align with the Dining Hall Tunnels.
We played it in the sequence of Forge flipping to Queen's, opening north to Dining Hall, where we ended up
summoning the Cat and taking him out.
Was this the correct placement of the opening tiles? Is there a way to get from the Queen's Chamber directly to
the Dining Hall Tunnels that we're missing? Or is the starting placement of the Dining Hall Tunnels a mistake?
A: No mistake and it seems like you played it correctly. The layout has confused a few people.

Q: In chapter 5, when chiming the bell in the Kitchen, do you fish out the Brody card in the Boss Deck or just fight
with the one remaining one?
A: No you fish both his cards out.

Ch 8
Q: Chapter Eight: Seeking Sorrow questions: I've reread the rules on flipping tiles and exploring new tiles and the
like. It SEEMS like players can attempt to explore to an adjacent tile if there is a color on their side of the
exploration, but NOT if there isn't? So you can go from the Alchemist's Chamber DOWN (flip) to the Crystal
Tunnels, and then NORTH to the flip the Guard Room to the Sewers? However, you CANNOT go left from the
Alchemist's Chamber straight to the Dining Hall, because there isn't a colored (blue/orange) section on your side
of that tile edge. Right?
A: I'm not sure what is going wrong for you in chapter 8, but if the tiles are placed correctly you should be able to
explore the left exit in the crystal tunnels and move into the dinning tunnels.

Q: Chapter Eight: Seeking Sorrow questions: Does enlisting Miz Maggie's aid in the Kitchen automatically happen
on entry? Do you have to clear the kitchen first of minions? Does it take any particular sort of action to activate
this?
A: Since the rules say you draw an encounter any time you enter a new tile unless the story book say otherwise
and that you can only leave a tile once there are no minions on it, i always play that you must clear the kitchen
before getting aid from miz maggie.

OTHERS

Q: And in "The Forging of the Beast," can't the mice who explore into the crystal tunnels come back up into the
alchemist's chamber? I would rule no because I don't think that's what was intended (and would allow them to
completely bypass the sewer drain pipe), but I don't see any rule preventing this.
A: I never wrote a rule to prevent this because I assumed the intent was obvious.

Q: In Lily's Tale, do we place the cockroaches and Lily's Initiative card on the track and give them turns even if we
aren't in the crystal tunnels yet? or do we leave them out of the game until we reach the tile?
A: They are active from the start of the chapter.

Q: In "Lily's Tail," what does it mean that "Lily is not considered part of the party until she is rescued"? Can
abilities like Collin's Battle Leader and Inspire affect her? Can other mice Share with her? Also, do we place a
roach on her tile when a Surge happens or just during a normal encounter?
A: you don't place a roach for her on a surge the rule says only for encounter cards. She is not part of your party
so is not affected by things that affect your party.

Q: Also, in Lily's Tail (and elsewhere) sometimes you are exploring with a party of only 3 dudes. If you explore and
come in on a minion entry space, will a minion spawn on the same space as the three mice?
A: if you want it to. You have some control over this.
Q: On tile 12: The King's Tunnels, the water forks into a northern and a western branch. The western branch
continues for two squares after the split. The third square is a blackened area surrounded by what looks like a
cave wall. Can one enter that blackened square? Does it count as leaving the map for purposes of being
captured?
A: That dark space is a water space.

Q: When in the kitchen in Flight to Barksburg, sometimes when you kill a roach Mz. Maggie whacks you upside
the head and the roach goes to the countertop. So the question is : Is the roach dead and a new spawns on the
countertop or is the roach you attacked saved and wacked onto the counter by the broom? We played it like the
roach is not dead and "saved" by the broom, but I am not sure.
A: You played it correct. The reason for respawning them is just so that you can't kill all the roaches and complete
the encounter before succeeding in getting Maggie's attention.

Q: Also, what about the Crow? It says that it swoops on minions or mice who roll 1 to move. What if there are
multiple minions in a situation who have to move? Do all of them get clipped by the Crow, or just one? Also, in the
case of ranged minions, such as Elite Rat Warriors, what if they do not move (because they can still see their
targets) but roll a 1 against the Crow?
This would've changed the outcome of the final game tonight. On turn 1, the Elite Rat Warriors rolled a 1 for
movement. We didn't know quite how to handle this, so we ruled they were all three taken down, but this feels
wrong. What's the official ruling?
A: You are playing this wrong. You roll move for each minion in a group. Not the group as a whole. Yes, when you
move that minion, not group, it will get a wound from the crow if they roll a 1. Ranged minions don't move if they
have line of sight, so the crow will not usually get them.

Q: In Cat 'n' Mouse, when you draw Brodie from the boss deck, do you get his other initiative card out, or do you
just play him with the one in the boss deck?
A: you use both his cards, but you oly put one in the boss deck

Q: Did you ever answer whether it takes 1 or 3 move to move on/off of Vanestrs's clock?
A: 3

Q: Are voids between pipe spaces treated just like red lines (minions can move over them, mice can't, LOS can
see over them, but the spaces separated by them aren't considered adjacent)?
A: The voids between the pipes cannot be crossed by minions or mice using normal movement. They are not
treated as red lines.

Q: In "The Grapes of Rats," do we lose the Disguises if we play The Dice Game? Can mice use Share actions to
share cheese during The Dice Game?
A: yes and no

Q: In the King's Chamber, it says if a surge occurs in the king's chamber, the mice all get +1 to their battle. Is this
in addition to or instead of an actual surge?
A: Instead

Q: The Cheddar Golem doesn't get bonuses from weapons and armor, does he?
A: Nope. He is your weapon and armor.

Q: The cheddar golem wears off when there are no more minions. But in the king's chamber, the first spider is
immediately replaced by another when it dies. So does the cheddar golem wear off after the first or the second
spider dies? Also, can hte cheddar golem still use abilities?
A: Yes. A-after the second spider

Q: Do both groups have to reach the forge in order for the mice to win chapter four? Because in my play-through,
nez's group was fighting a centipede and three rats in the pipes when collin's group entered the forge, and the
cards called for 2 centipedes and 6 rats. So they just had to defeat three rats to win, and as soon as they did so
nez's group automatically won with them?
A:Yep, odd result, but yes

Q: During the dice game in one of the early chapters, can mice share cheese?
A: No
Top Most Missunderstood rules:

Maginos can't use Meeps ability until after chapter 3. (Mentioned in story book, not rule book--"But I just
finished painting those tiny dots on the ladybug, it's right there on his arm, what do you mean I can't use
it!")
Cheese tokens are received/placed on both defense and attack rolls. (We only used attack rolls at first.)
Yellow lines take three movement steps to cross against the arrow.
You can take your move and then move again (aka Scurry) as your action.
Melee attack requires a melee weapon (Lily with only her bow can't try to bite/stab-with-arrow a roach on
her space to take advantage of sword-symbols which have better odds on the dice).
Mice must roll a movement die on every turn, even if they don't move or don't need the extra steps. You
can't avoid the crow by not moving.
Which mouse does a melee minion attack when multiple are attackable? See “Q:Who is being attacked
first?“ above.
We added cheese when Brodie rolled. Correct Rule: Brodie never adds cheese.
Only one Ability can be used per turn (i.e. initiative card) period, no matter how many mice are acting on
that turn.
Move First... then the rest of the actions not realizing you could do those in any order.
Cheese results are always counted first, before abilities or anything else. You can't "steal" a rolled
cheese before it hits the wheel to stop a surge.
Rolling for defense only if there's a hit. We always rolled for defense, so our mice got lots of cheese, and
the cheese wheel filled up quickly. That pushed us to the end of the chapter way before we got to the
courtyard, and is probably the most important thing to get right.
Ranged attackers must attack minions/heros in the same space or an adjacent space if there are any.
This trumps the 'must attack an un-attacked mouse' rule for minions, allowing Nez to soak up fire from
groups of ranged attackers. It also limits Maginos (and Lily).
You roll for searches (we found an amazing amount of stuff, until we spotted this rule.).
But do not roll for exploration. In a couple places the rules seem to indicate that exploration did not
always succeed, and it wasn't clear why so we thought rolling was necessary: "When a mouse is on a
space adjacent to an exit area, it can use an explore action to attempt to move to a new tile (p. 12) and
"when a mouse successfully performs an explore action to move to a new tile" (italics mine). The only
way we make sense of this is allowing players to explore where the tile edges do not match color, and
failing if the tile flip reveals no matching exit area.
Some of the scrolls do not state that they are single use (e.g. Levitation). It would have been awfully
handy in the sewers, but we decided to limit it to one use.
Minions move into a mouse space if possible (we initially only moved them adjacent). This limits mouse
movement.
Multiple wielding... not clear whether to add both weapon bonuses, or choose between weapons (the
latter is correct, with Filch's exception).
Our mice were throwing blocks of cheese to each other over several squares, rather than following the
limits of the share rules. From now on, we'll huddle together if we want to exchange things.
Minions are limited by the figurine mix. We mistakenly faced two spiders (one was a flipped roach
figurine) at once! Fortunately, Nez blocked them at a bottleneck and fought one at a time.
Ranged and melee minions get placed differently. We split the Elite Rat Warriors from an encounter onto
different entry spaces just as we did melee minions. (We also didn't notice that they were ranged
attackers, so it balanced out.)
