Pusong ‘di magmamaliw,

sa pagpapaunlad ng bayang magiliw,

Since the birth of our independence from foreign colonizers, Jose Rizal has been regarded
as a national hero not only in the Philippines but around the world. What he did to liberate us
from them was a remarkable feat that people continue to admire. He was viewed as one of the
Philippines' most influential nationalists. From the quote that he left, "I want to show to those
who deprive people the right to love of country, that when we know how to sacrifice ourselves
for our duties and convictions, death does not matter if one dies for those one loves—for his
country and for others dear to him." it demonstrates his adoration for the country and its people,
as well as his national pride. Consider two phenomena when defining nationalism: the attitude or
behavior that citizens of a nation exhibit when they are concerned about their national identity
and the activities that citizens of a nation engage in when attempting to attain or maintain self-
determination. (Miscevic, 2001). It is a feeling and a political concept that can be classified as
liberal, civic, ethnic, or cultural.

In the Philippines, nationalism is a synthesis of passion, sentiment, and concept, as well

as a reaction to and fight against imperialism. It is also defined as a protective emotion that
emphasizes people's desire to live an autonomous political life in which they can direct their own
economic and social progress and protect their interests. Many conflicts erupted during a period
when the Philippines was in poor shape due to the country's inability to provide jobs for its
residents, leading to their pursuing riches abroad and giving up their citizenship in exchange for
another. And because the Philippines is in such a state, it shaped Rizal's determination to
overcome it. Despite the fact that his death sparked a movement to overthrow the tyrant, he will
be remembered for his compassion for the Filipino people and country.

We came up with a slogan to express our gratitude for Dr. Jose Rizal's teachings.
“Pusong ‘di magmamaliw, sa pagpapaunlad ng bayang magiliw, Kaakibat ang utak na
sandata, Para sa bayang maralita.” Pouring one's heart into doing what one wants to do may
result in a positive outcome. There will be no obstacles if you put all of your efforts into
achieving your goal, just as there will be no problems if a person truly wants to improve the
country’s current state. Using one's knowledge to fight for one's freedom is far more effective
than engaging in a vicious fight. Wisdom, empathy, bravery, and nationalism, like Rizal's, are
still revered and cherished by Filipinos today. He had been outspoken in his opposition to the
Spanish government but in a peaceful and progressive manner. “The pen was mightier than the
sword,” he believed. And as a result, he exposed the corruption and wrongdoings of both
government officials and Spanish friars in his writings. Among his best works, however, two
novels stood out: Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. These two novels by Rizal, now
considered literary masterpieces, are said to have sparked the Philippine Revolution indirectly.
As more Filipinos read the books, their eyes were opened to the fact that they were being
subjected to unspeakable abuses at the hands of the friars. And his legacy demonstrates that
sometimes the best way to fight is to use one's pen and mind.
