ABSTRACT
This project is “Study of the Effect of Avenue
Trees on Temperature Under Canopy and
Outside”. The objective is to determine
Impacts of avenue trees on the temperature
In the surrounding areas . I did this
experiment on bright sunny days of
September month. I selected Peltophorum
pterocarpum (copper pod tree) as an avenue
tree for this experiment. The result was that
the areas which had more trees the
temperature was comparatively low.

INTRODUCTION
Avenue trees are the trees which are grown on road
side. They provide cool air and shade to the
passengers. Avenue trees keep the air fresh, prevent
soil erosion and reduce noise, air and thermal pollution.
The greenery of the avenue tree makes the area
attractive and appealing. Different types of animals get
food and shelter from avenue trees. Some of the
common avenue trees cultivated in our country are
Cassia fistula, Dalbergia sissoo (shisham), Azadiraeta
indica (Neem), Acacia arebica (Kikar), Albizia labback
(siris), Eugenia jamblana (Jamun), Eucalyptus etc. The
trees transpire and impart shade, thus lower the
temperature. The study of effect of avenue trees on
temperature can be an interesting subject. Therefore the
study of effect of avenue trees on temperature under
canopy and outside has been selected for the present
project.

MATERIALS AND METHODOLOGY
AIM: - To study the effect of avenue trees on
temperature under canopy and outside.

MATERIALS REQUIRED: An area with avenue

trees, thermometers, beakers, water, pen,
record notebook
EXPERIMENTAL PROCEDURE: - 1. Find out an area
with sufficient avenue trees
and without trees.
2. Take three beakers 3/4th filled with water.
Put one thermometer in each of them.
3. Place one beaker under the avenue tree,
second beaker near the avenue tree in the
open and third beaker in the area without
trees.
4. Record the temperatures of the trees areas in
the morning, noon, and evening and record
the data in the observation table.

The area which is without trees has
maximum temperature. The area nearby
avenue trees shows comparatively low
temperature while the area under avenue
tree exhibits the lowest temperature. The
low temperature under trees is due to
shade and the lose water vapours through
transpiration .
