5.0 RESPONSIBILITY OF PERSONNEL

5.1 Applicator is responsible to execute the job in compliance with quality and safety requirement

5.2 QA/QC engineer and Supervisor shall be responsible for day to day painting activity in

addition to scheduling, monitoring and follow up.

5.3 The Project Manager is overall responsible for monitoring the work accordingly to Procedures.

6.0 WEATHER CONDITION

6.1 Local temperature and humidity conditions shall be measured and recorded prior to and during

blasting, painting and curing operation in Daily Painting Report. The weather conditions shall
be recorded every 3 hours of the day.
6.2 Blast cleaning and painting shall only be carried out when environmental conditions are

suitable. At all times the temperature of the substrate being painted shall be at least 3ºC above
the atmosphere dew point temperature and relative humidity of the air below 85%.
6.3 If there is a requirement to carry out blast cleaning or painting under less suitable weather

conditions, the acceptability of the situation must be agreed with Owner’s Engineer before any
work commences.

7.0 SURFACE PREPARATION

7.1 The blast cleaning shall be carried out at a nozzle pressure of 100 psi. The compressed air used
shall be free from oil and water. The air compressor used for dry blast cleaning shall be fitted
with adequately sized after – coolers to ensure that the air supplied is dry.
7.2 Remove all oil, grease and other contaminations before starting the blast cleaning.
7.3 Sharp edges shall be rounded off by grinding up to 2 mm radius

8.0 PREPARATION AND APPLICATION OF PAINT MATRIALS

8.1 GENERAL

DIME shall adhere strictly to the instructions and recommendations specified by the paint
manufacturer for the preparation and application of all paint materials.

8.2 PAINT MIXING

8.2.1 Before starting the application, the paint mixing shall be done properly base material with
curing agent. remixing shall be done regular intervals depending on the nature of paint.
Mixers shall be used to mix paints the solids are distributed equally throughout the Container.
Thinning is limited to 5 % maximum, paint mixing shall be extended/ reduced and thinning
volume shall be increased / decreased as per paint manufacturer recommendations.

8.3 PAINT APPLICATION

8.3.1 Prior to painting surface shall be cleaned with clean and dry air. The coating shall be done by
airless spray or brush application according to the client and paint manufacturer’s
recommendations.
8.3.2 When using spray application methods, all the equipment shall have adequate well maintained
pressure regulating devices, effective strainers, well maintained guns.
8.3.3 Nozzles and tips shall be of the correct size and provide the most suitable spray shape for the
effective and economical application of the paint without excessive over spray.
8.3.4 Over coating times at the prevailing metal and ambient temperature shall be adhered to as per
paint manufacturers recommendations in the data sheet.
8.3.5 Additional coats shall be applied as per the recommended over coating time.

9.2 Clean the damaged areas as per SSPC SP 11/ ISO 8501-1 St3 hand tool cleaning.

9.3 Apply the specified paint.

10.0 FILM THICKNESS MEASUREMENTS

10.1 All instruments used for inspection shall be calibrated by a third party.
10.2 Dry paint film thickness shall be measured with a DFT gauge. The equipment shall be field

calibrated before taking measurements and after completion of DFT checks in accordance with
the manufacturer’s recommendations.
10.3 DFT readings shall be taken as per SSPC PA2 only

10.4 The applicator will continuously check wet film thickness with Wet Film Thickness Gauges such

as a steel comb Gauge. WFT measurements obtained shall meet the required DFT. Additional
coats shall be applied within the recommended over coating period from paint manufacturer
datasheet

11.0 FINAL INSPECTION
