CAC101:IT FUNDAMENTALS-I

Course Outcomes: Through this course students should be able to

CO1 :: understand the core technical functionality of portable computing devices and peripheral
devices

CO2 :: analyze network protocols, devices and tools

CO3 :: identify the types of cables, connectors, peripheral devices and other components of
computer
CO4 :: illustrate cloud computing models, resource allocation and client-side virtualization

CO5 :: apply troubleshooting techniques in order to fix issues in computer components

CO6 :: operate and troubleshoot mobile, wireless and peripheral devices

Unit I
Laptops : keyboard, hard drive, memory, smart card reader, optical drive, wireless card/Bluetooth
module, cellular card, video card, Mini PCIe, screen, DC jack, battery, touchpad, plastics/frames,
speaker, system board, and the CPU
Smartphones, Tablets, and Other Mobile Devices : Characteristics of various types of other
mobile devices, connect and configure accessories and ports of other mobile devices, connect and
configure accessories and ports of other mobile devices, use methods to perform mobile device
synchronization
Unit II
Networking Ports, Protocols, and Network Devices, SOHO Networks and Wireless Protocols
: Ports, protocols, and their purposes, common networking hardware devices, install and configure a
basic wired/wireless SOHO network, Compare and contrast wireless networking protocols
Networked Hosts, Network Types and Networking Tools : Properties and purposes of services
provided by networked hosts, common network configuration concepts, Internet connection types,
network types, and their features, use of appropriate networking tools
Unit III
Cables and Connectors, RAM and Storage, Motherboards and Add-on Cards : Basic cable
types, features, and their purposes, common connector types, RAM types and storage devices, install
and configure motherboards, CPUs, and add-on cards
Peripherals, Common Devices, Printers and Multifunction Devices : Purposes and uses of
various peripheral types, power supply types and features, install and configure common devices,
install and maintain various print technologies
Unit IV
Cloud Computing : Cloud models; shared resources; rapid elasticity; on-demand; resource pooling;
measured service; metered; off-site e-mail applications; cloud file storage services; virtual application
streaming/cloud-based applications; and virtual desktop
Client-side Virtualization : Purpose of virtual machines; VM requirements, resources, emulator,
security, network, and hypervisor
Unit V
Computer Troubleshooting 101, Troubleshooting Motherboards, CPUs, RAM : CompTIA A+ 6-
step troubleshooting methodology, troubleshoot problems related to motherboards, RAM, CPUs, and
power
Troubleshooting Hard Drives and RAID Arrays : On troubleshooting common symptoms of hard
drives and RAID arrays, read/write failure, slow performance, loud clicking noise, failure to boot, drive
not recognized
Unit VI
Troubleshooting Video Issues and Mobile Devices : Troubleshoot video, projector, and display
issues, troubleshoot video, projector, and display issues
Troubleshooting Printers, Wired and Wireless Network Problems : Troubleshooting common
symptoms of printers, streaks, ghost images, toner not fused to paper, troubleshooting common
symptoms of wired and wireless network problems, limited connectivity, intermittent connectivity, no
connectivity
