“Learnings in Kursong Rizal”

Every Filipino knows who Dr. Jose Rizal is because he is the National Hero of the
Philippines. Knowing him during Elementary School and studying his novels in High School is
not enough to get to know him better as a person and an inspiration to the rest of the Filipino
heroes who fought the Spaniards in the past.

I think the highlight of his life is when he was exiled to Dapitan. He proved that he is not
a selfish man by helping the town to advance by building a clinic free of charge for the people
and building a house with amazing architecture which still stands and is preserved in the present
day.

Dr. Rizal had a lot of women in his life but the woman who I think made a huge impact
on our hero’s life is Josephine Bracken. I did not know that they had a child that sadly only lived
for three hours after the child was born. I have read a lot of things in our modules. They both
surely faced a lot of challenges because the people are against their marriage which is difficult to
deal with because it can affect their relationship. Still, Dr. Rizal and Josephine Bracken’s
relationship is not easy to destroy because from what I have read, they really loved each other,
and they just ignored all the nasty things that they heard from the people around them.

Aside from having a great and healthy relationship with Josephine Bracken, Dr. Rizal is
also a professional in various fields aside from being a doctor. He also tried to be an engineer to
build a free school and clinic for the poor people in Dapitan. He made a lot of houses with
different styles.

Dr. Rizal became part of a Propaganda movement along with Filipinos who wanted to
reform the society and who wanted to take back the country from the colonizers. He wrote two
novels: Noli Me Tangere and El Filibusterismo. By writing these novels, he helped the Filipinos
open their eyes and his novels were later banned from the country.

I also learned that when Dr. Rizal was exiled to Dapitan, it was seen as the sign to create
the Katipunan and for the four whole years of Dr. Rizal being imprisoned, the people of the
Katipunan tried to help him escape from the prison lot of times.

Dr. Jose Rizal also wrote a letter for the women of Malolos. The letter is historical it can
also be applied to the present day. Men and women must be treated equally. He sent the letter to
the women of Malolos to congratulate them for their bravery and teach and support them for
their advocacy.

The letter can still be used as a guide for women to help them show their dignity and
worth as a woman. In that letter, Dr. Rizal referred to different women of our society: mothers,
daughters, wives, and even unmarried women. He wrote a lot of advice.
Letter to the instructor:

Sir Jumel, you are a nice person and a nice instructor to us because when you had your
two lectures with us, it felt like you were just talking about your daily activities and your lecture
during our Kursong Rizal synchronous was nice. You did not contribute putting hassle on us by
not giving us a lot of assessments and we thank you for that. Reading your module is also nice
because you did it neatly. It was nice having a term with you, sir.
