A. Introduction
All research reports use roughly the same format. No matter what research
you have conducted, be they are a student satisfaction survey, an action research,
an experimental study on teaching reading strategies, or an error analysis on
students’ paragraph writing, all has the same basic structure and format. The vocal
point is that readers of research reports (i.e., examiners, decision maker, etc.) will
know exactly where to find the information they are looking for, regardless of the
individual report.
Research papers usually have five chapters with well-established sections in
each chapter. Readers of the paper will be looking for these chapters and sections.
Therefore, no deviation should be made from the standard format unless the
institution or research sponsor specifically request ones. Most research studies
begin with a written proposal. Just like research reports, nearly all proposals
follow the same format. In fact, the proposal is identical to the first three chapters
of the final paper except that it's written in future tense. In the proposal, you might
write something like "A set of questionnaire and semi-structured interview will be
used to collect the data ", while in the report, it would be changed to "A set of
questionnaire and semi-structured interview were used to collect the data." In
other words, with the exception of tense, the proposal is identical with the first
three chapters of the research report.

1. Title page
All text on the title page is centered vertically and horizontally. The title page
has no page number and it is not counted in any page numbering. The
university logo (height= 3.8 cm and width= 4.5 cm) is put on top. Look at the
sample provided in Appendix 1.

Use quarto/letter paper (21.59 cm x 27.94 cm)

Left margin: 4 cm
Right margin: 3 cm
Top margin: 4 cm
Bottom margin: 3 cm
4. Page numbering
All pages are numbered at the top right, except the first page of each chapter
whose page number is put at the bottom center. There should be 3 cm of white
space from the top of the page number to the top of the paper, and 2 cm of
white space from the bottom of the page number to the bottom of the paper for
the first page of each chapter. Numeric page numbering begins with the first
page of Chapter 1.
5. Spacing
All pages are single sided. Text is double-spaced, except for long quotations
and the bibliography (which are single-spaced). There is one blank line
between a section heading and the text that follows it.
9. References
APA format should be used to cite references within the paper. Guide for using

1. Title
The title should be short and explanatory. A good title gives a clear and
concise description of the scope and nature of the research and is stated in a
noun phrase not more than 25 words consisting of key words which allow
bibliographers to index the study in proper categories. As a general guide,
the words forming the title should indicate (1) major variables; (2) nature of
research (descriptive, correlational, experimental, survey, or action
research); and (3) target population.
3. Chapter I - Introduction
In general, this section begins with one to three short introductory
paragraphs (a couple of pages at most). The primary goal of the introductory
paragraphs is to catch the attention of the readers and to get them "turned
on" about the subject. These paragraphs set the stage for the paper and put
the topic in perspective. What comes after the introductory paragraphs is
information about: (1) why the research is important; (2) what other studies
have been conducted in this area; (3) how this research will add to
knowledge in this area; (4) what the writer want to find out; (5) What main
questions the writer wants to answer; and (6) what specific questions the
writer asks to address the main question.
b) Conceptual Framework
This section shows the relationship of the background to the problems and
shows how the present proposed research could provide solutions to the
problems or contribute to the literature.
c) Hypothesis
The presence of this section depends of the research method proposed.
Only experimental researches, some surveys and some action researches
have hypothesis. In those researches, this section states the hypothesis in
the form of null hypothesis and alternative hypothesis.
b) Research Method
This section briefly but concisely describes the research method to be
used. Two paragraphs will suffice for this.

technique to be used i.e. descriptive analysis and the statistical analysis
(e.g. t-test)—if one will be used.
