1 3-arm Brackets Generated via Depth

• Description
Normally, the geometry of the bracket is primarily controlled by the length of the arms, either
explicitly given or calculated automatically by Tribon. However, for 3-arm brackets it is in
certain cases more convenient to let the bracket size be controlled by the depth of the
bracket. Typical examples are the two brackets in the figure below.
© 1993-2005 AVEVA AB

In most cases the free side should be parallel to the base of the bracket and the length of
the edges should be adjusted automatically accordingly. Tribon has a new option to control
the bracket size by the depth in these cases, normally eliminating the need to give the arm
lengths explicitly.
This option is supported for 3-arm brackets in bracket syntaxes 2, 3 and 7.

• Benefits
It has become easier to generate and control 3-arm brackets specified with a given depth.

• Compatibility Constraints
None.

3 Delete Single Shell Stiffener

• Description
So far it it has not been impossible to delete a single shell stiffener from a shell profile. The
system only had the possibility to set the stiffener to a dummy interval or to remove a
complete branch of a shell profile. In addition, if you selected as single shell stiffener and
invoked the Delete function then the system asked OK to delete the shell profile XXX?. If
you answered yes the complete shell profile was deleted.
The delete single stiffener feature is now implemented. If you select a shell stiffener and
invoke Delete only this stiffener is removed. In this process, the system will split up the
curve branch that the stiffener belongs to so that the selected stiffener is on a branch of its
own. Then this curve branch will be deleted.

• Benefits
A single shell stiffener from a longitudinal or transversal can be deleted.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

4 Improved Shell Profile Inclination Control

• Description
In Tribon M2, it is possible to control shell stiffener inclination angles at specific positions in
the interior of the stiffener. It is now possible to do this in Tribon M3 as well, and the handling
has been improved compared to Tribon M2. Specific inclination angles may be set at up to
100 positions in a shell profile, the location of each position being defined by the intersection
between the profile trace and another object (seam, hull curve, planar panel, plane or
another shell profile) or a principal plane.
The angles at intermediate points are interpolated from any nearby inclination points (or the
stiffener end point).

• Benefits
The user will have better control of the stiffener inclination angle when required.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

5 Deleting Panel via Scheme Removed

• Description
From Tribon M3 SP5 it is no longer possible to delete a panel via the scheme. The existing
function Planar > Panel > Delete is to be used in stead. The reason is that with the
introduction of the multi-view project concept with Design and Production panels, the
deletion of a panel became more complex involving multiple panels that would not fit well
into scheme generation.

• Benefits
Single delete function for plane panels.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

6 Additional Production Information in

Developed Plates

• Description
A new option has been added to the cpanparts function. It offers the possibility to get names
of the bounding seams in the receipt drawing from this function. This option is controlled via
a new IP:
ADD_SEAM_NAMES, [HEIGHT, 'text height',][COLOUR,'text colour',]
When this IP has been given, the names of boundary seams of the curved plates will be
added in the drawing showing all the markings. The system defaults are 50 for text height'
and Green for text colour.

• Benefits
Richer choice of options.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

7 Material Orientation of Stiffeners

• Description
Normally, the orientation of a stiffener is defined by its direction, e.g. by the order in which
the end points have been given. The rule is that the material will be located to the left of the
line from the starting point (end point 1) to the ending point (end point 2).
By use of a new keyword MSIDE it is possible to control the material orientation
independently of the order in which the endpoints have been given (or the direction defined
for the mould line).

Remarks:
1. If the use of MSIDE is in conflict with the default rule, then the order of the end points
will automatically be swapped after generation, i.e. if a scheme is derived from the
panel it should be possible to take away MSIDE and still get the same result.
2. The direction of the mould line is still relevant in cases when the stiffener ends e.g. at
the outer contour, because the direction in this case defines what is end point 1 and 2,
respectively.
To control the orientation use MSI= AFT | FOR | SB | PS | TOP | BOT

8 Named Cutouts in Shell Profiles

• Description
Since long it has been possible to use a name alias instead of a numeric cutout code when
creating a cutout in a planar panel. This is now supported also for shell profiles, both in
interactive and batch modelling. The clip arrangement optionally connected to the named
cutout in the setup file is disregarded as clips are not supported for shell profiles.

• Benefits
The user will be able to give cutout types arbitrary names and use the same cutout names in
Curved Hull and Planar Hull.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

• For Further Information

9 Option for Activation of Knuckled Panels

• Description
A new default parameter has been added to Planar Hull Modelling/Basic Design offering
different alternatives when activating a knuckled panel. The default parameter is
COM_KNU_SELECT and it accepts the following values:

MAIN When activating a knuckled panel the main panel itself will be made
active.

SUB The closest subpanel will be activated.

ASK The user will be prompted by a multiple choice dialogue to activate either
the main panel itself or a subpanel.

MAIN is the default value.

• Benefits
It has become easier to modify/delete/create components on knuckled panels.

11 Topological Sorting of Objects to Recreate

• Description
When objects are selected for recreation in Curved Hull they will from now on be sorted
topologically before the recreation starts. This ensures that the objects are updated in the
correct order with respect to the topological connections between them.
For example, if seam B is defined as being parallel to seam A, and B and A are selected by
the user (in that order) for recreation, A will be updated first, then B.

• Benefits
The objects selected for recreation will always be updated as expected and each object will
be recreated only once, thus giving maximum model consistency in minimum time.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

12 Corrected Bevel Handling in Profile Ends

• Description
There has been a problem to automatically select the correct bevel at profile ends. This has
been corrected. However, this also affects the profile interface where customer in the
programs may have compensated for the error. To still get the "erroneous" result in the
profile interface and not the corrected calculations a new temporary environment variable
has been introduced. This environment variable is introduced in M3SP4 versions create
from February 2006. The name of the variable is SB_NEW_PROF_END_HANDLING and it
should be set to any value if the correct calculation of bevel should be used (in TBM3SP4).
Default for the profile interface is to get the old erroneous values.
In TBM3SP5MU1 the default result is the corrected result but to still get the old erroneous
result the environment variable should be set (i.e. reversed handling compared to M3SP4).
Affected keywords in the profile interface are BEVEL_CODE, BEVEL_TYPE, ALPHA, BETA
and CONNECTION_ANGLE.

• Benefits
In the profile interface, customers may continue with their in-house program and can modify
in-house program without disturbing the production.

13 Block Field in Panel Statement

• Description
The block combo box for the panel statement form always contains all defined blocks in a
project. This list may be very long and the size of the combo box is small. Also in the form
system used, it is not possible to get the event for more than one character (the first). This
makes it difficult to select a block when a large number of blocks are defined.
The block filed has been changed to be a text field. In this field it is also possible to use
wildcards (*) in the beginning and end of a block name. If wildcards are used (or no block is
given), a list of matching blocks is presented in a selection window where it is possible to
click on the block to use.

• Benefits
More easy way of setting block for a planar panel.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

14 Output XML for Single Shell Stiffener

• Description
Since version M3 there has been a function in Curved Hull Modelling to output an XML
description file of all (non-temporary) curved hull modelling objects. There has been one
exception though: shell stiffeners. XML output has so far only been available for the whole
longitudinal/transversal. This is improved in TBM3SP5_MU1. You may now select a single
shell stiffener and get the XML description.
This makes it easier to modify a shell stiffener via Vitesse, to move the trace for instance.
You can use the Vitesse function output_XML to get the XML description, modify the file
and then input it again with the Vitesse function run_XML.

• Benefits
You can now modify shell stiffener via XML interface.

• Compatibility constrains
None.

15 Profile Endcuts 181-184 Modified

• Description
The endcut geometry of profile endcuts 181 to 184 has been modified.
The notch at the upper edge of the web defined by R2 has been moved so that it is centred
relative the edge/end of the flange.
If the Tribon environment variable SBH_OLD_ECUT_181-184 is set to any value then the
old endcut geometry will be preserved.

• Benefits
The modified location of the notch is more realistic considering why it has been picked at all.

• Compatibility constrains
None, provided SBH_OLD_ECUT_181-184 is assigned.
