Choosing the Best Nozzles
Consider First the Company with the
Greatest Experience in Designing Spray
Nozzles for Fire Protection
BETE has been developing specialized nozzles for fire protection since
the early 1950's. BETE's early growth was assured with a large order to
supply the newly developed BETE spiral nozzles to Sinclair Refining
Company for protection of their catalytic cracking units. BETE has contin-
ued to build on this early experience to become pre-eminent in supplying
high performance nozzles for fixed fire protection on off-shore drilling and
production platforms, petroleum storage and transfer stations, and a wide
variety of industrial and commercial installations. Working with individual
companies and industry consortia, BETE's newest design innovations are
rewriting the books on platform and well-head protection, water curtains,
and the mitigation of toxic gas releases. BETE's success is built on its
ability to carefully engineer its nozzle designs to deliver the specific spray
performance required to efficiently suppress and extinguish many different
types of fires.

Consider: Type of Protection Needed, Nozzle Design,

Spray Performance and Spray Density

Consider: Do you need to conserve fire water supplies for low

pressure contingencies?
The spiral design is the most efficient direct-pressure atom-
izer, producing sprays 30-50% finer at a given pressure than
equivalently rated whirl nozzles. This translates into more
droplet surface area over which heat transfer can occur,
yielding significant improvements in fire suppression and
cooling effectiveness. Their greater efficiency allow the
BETE spiral nozzles (TF, TFXP, TFXPW, TF-150, TF29-180
and N series) to be operating at lower pressures and lower
flow rates without compromising the level of protection.

Consider: Is your deluge system exposed to average winds

above 10 mph?
If so, the BETE TFXPW series provides the proven fine
atomization of the spiral design and a carefully engineered
inner spray cone to punch through cross-winds and vigorous
convective plumes.

For Fixed Fire Protection
Consider: Are you protecting a lightly packed, enclosed storage space? Nozzle Selection by Application
The BETE TF29-180 series combines a unique extra-wide
coverage high-energy spray able to project through gratings (Listed with preferred choice first)
with fine droplets characteristic of the spiral design. Devel-
oped by BETE for Naval Sea Systems Command, this series Fire Protection:

Consider: Does your installation require nozzles approved by
Lloyd's Factory Mutual or the U.S. Coast Guard?
BETE's N series nozzles are the only spiral design nozzles
in the industry that are Coast Guard and Factory Mutual
approved. All N series models are Factory Mutual approved.
The BETE N9 model is designed to meet FM's requirements
for use in fixed deluge installations protecting industrial trans-
formers. The entire N series is certified for use on ships and
off-shore installations by Lloyd's Register. The N3, 4 and 5
and N3W, 4W and 5W models are approved by the U.S.
Coast Guard.
