The title of the article reviewed was “Improving English Grammar Achievement
through Educational Games among Eleventh Grade Students in East Jerusalem.” The study
proposed in the particular article was an investigation of using educational games to improve
English grammar achievement among eleventh grade students at a high school. Improving
English Grammar Achievement through Educational Games and teaching methods are key
factors in the performance and well-being of any school. Student learning can be enhanced by
the usage of educational games in various ways.

In the particular study mentioned above, the experimental group was educated
grammar by using instructive language games for two months, whereas the control group was
taught using traditional methods. It shows that one useful technique to improve achievement
in English grammar is to use games and warm-up activities within a precise structure. It could
benefit those who involved in language education, especially teachers and students in various
ways. The study encourages teachers to expose their students to a less stressful learning
environment which inspires them to be passionate about learning English language.

The investigation was conducted using a quasi-experimental study. The treatment


variable was manipulated but the groups are not associated prior to manipulation of the
independent variable. The researcher did observation on control group and experimental
group. Both groups were undergone pre- and post-tests. Then, the experimental group
participated in five grammar games however the control group was trained only using
traditional methods by using worksheets.

After collecting the information, SPSS Means and standard deviations were
considered to study the outcome of using educational games on grammar acquisition.
Significant higher marks achieved by the experimental group (M = 77.6), than the control
group (M = 68.7). The results obtained justified the research questions. The outcome of the
study discussed in the article demonstrated that educational games able to improve learning.

The title of the article reviewed was “using games to teach young children English
language”. The core concern which has been addressed in this study was using games in the
classroom during English language learning sessions. Nowadays, language games are
designed to fulfil the learning objectives. All types of games may be used in an educational
environment. Games already have reached popularity among educators to meet learning
needs of pupils. When it comes down to learning atmosphere of children, it is nearly
impossible to separate playing from learning.

By playing a game pupils may be able to understand new concept during learning
process. There are numerous skills that learners can develop through using games such as
critical thinking, skills, creativity, teamwork and so on. Like any educational tool, they need
to be well planned and inculcated to meet the positive learning outcomes.

Since learning style is changing day by day, teachers keep altering their teaching
approaches and tactics. Therefore, the purpose of this investigation was to observe the
effectiveness of using games in the classroom. Integration of games in learning sessions
encourage creativity and spontaneous usage of the language. Since teachers understand that
young children have pretty short attention span and their main purpose of using games is to
provide fun and focused learning. Mixed research methods have been selected for data
collection process in this particular study to answer the research questions.

Since two different categories of methodology were used, it indicates that two
different types of data were also received. The first section contains general questions
concerning the academic background. The second section is included questions about
inculcation of games in classrooms. Then, last section focuses on effectiveness of the games
as teaching tools. The results obtained in both ‘Quantitative Data Analysis’ and ‘Qualitative
Data Analysis’ proved that teachers accept games as effective tools for teaching English
language to young children. Therefore, we can conclude that language games are great
alternative for children who do not learn best through traditional method.

involvement in the learning of English syntax”. Learning English syntax is considered as an
uninteresting subject for the most of students since the activities frequently monotonous and
the classroom become dull. So, the researcher of this particular study wanted to determine the
use of games in the learning of English syntax. Therefore, the investigation focuses whether
the games provided by students themselves were able to make a joyful learning activity and
able to increase their involvement in the learning process.

Student-centred learning is most appropriate for the more independent learners who
create their own learning experience. It trains them to be more developed in administrative
toward their learning. In order to make the learning activities effective, an educator should
consider make use of games. This investigation portrayed students felt motivated and
enthusiastic in joining the learning activities after the inculcation of games. Approximately
97% agreed that the use of the games enabled to make the learning activities interactive.

This investigation makes use of descriptive research and it is classified into a case
study to find out whether the games provided by students themselves are able to make a
meaningful learning activity and able to increase their involvement in the learning process.
The researcher carried out classroom observation through whole meetings. In the process of
gaining more data, a questionnaire was given to 33 students in the class.

The learning of English syntax is considered as boring subject for its repetitive
activities, memorizing grammar rules, serious classroom learning. This particular study has
answered the research question by proving games are the perfect alternatives to the grammar
teaching lessons.
