FMO RELAUNCH; NEW JAMAICA INITIATIVE AND FIRST VISIT

Fr. Herald Brock, CFR, concluded his term as director of St.
Anthony Shelter for Renewal in the Bronx at the end of last
year, and has been reassigned to St. Michael Friary in
Paterson, NJ, once again as a full-time missionary preaching
friar. We are relaunching Franciscan Mission Outreach with a
new descriptive flyer (enclosed). This mini edition of Emissary
will update you on what FMO has been up to.
Part of the relaunch is undertaking a new initiative in
Jamaica, at the request of the Archbishop of Kingston and the
Oratorian Fathers in Port Antonio. St. Theresa Parish in
impoverished Annotto Bay has not had a resident priest for
some time and has declined in number and vitality. FMO will
be making regular visits to the main church and its satellite
chapels and schools to offer spiritual and material assistance.
Fr. Herald did a preliminary visit there in May (left) and is
returning with a small team in August. Additional trips are
planned for November and January.

IN HONDURAS FOR HOLY WEEK AND JESÚS EN LA PLAYA

FMO was back on the north coast of Honduras in March to
collaborate with the Diocese of La Ceiba, San Isidro Catholic
Radio and Missioners of Christ for the sixth annual Holy
Week outreach to tourists, Jesús en la Playa. The week
began with a citywide Palm Sunday procession and
celebration. Activities at the beach included songs, skits,
videos, face painting, children’s games and coloring, soccer
and obstacle course competitions, piñatas, distribution of
food to the poor, blood pressure testing, a Pro-Life
information table, an evening showing of the Passion of the
Christ and a children’s live reenactment of the Last Supper
(followed by washing the feet of those in the crowd) and
Way of the Cross with Fr. Herald as Jesus (right).
IN HAITI WITH FRIAR SUPPLIERS MEDICAL MISSION TEAM
In June, Fr. Herald accompanied Charlie Moran, Marianne Scherl and the Friar Suppliers medical
team to Riviere Froide, Carrefour, Haiti. Hundreds of patients were cared for during the week. We
also made several visits to a nearby orphanage run by religious sisters (where we baptized a
handicapped boy), provided food to households with blind family members, and traveled to the
remote mountain village of Beauséjour where the Little Brothers of St. Therese have a house that
FMO helped to build. Thanks to our benefactors, FMO was able to help purchase a sound system
and musical instruments to enhance the celebration of Sunday Mass at Beauséjour.

UPDATE ON CAMEROON HEART PATIENTS

Three of the four original patients for FMO’s 2017 Cameroon Christmas Heart Surgery appeal have
been successfully operated: Paul Cesar (above left), Angele Honorine and Jean-Robert. Extra funds
from FMO’s contribution also helped 3-year-old Hamed (pictured with his mother) receive surgery.
Tragically, baby Marc Prince passed away before a pediatric cardiologist could come to operate. He
was replaced by Junior Kendrick (above right) age 3, who is still awaiting treatment.
