Activity 2. Thinker’s View

1. What is the concern of the moon regarding his stars?

The moon was worried about the sun being so fond of their children-the stars. Whenever the
sun embraces their children-the stars, they burn which was why the moon has then forbid the
sun from going near their children.

2. Why does the moon anger the sun?

I think it's the other way around. It's the sun who angered the moon for not following the
instruction of not touching their children who have now perished. The moon then threw a
banana tree to strike the sun. If the moon ever angered the sun, it could be because of this. And
so, the sun also threw sand on the moon's face.

3. What particular phenomenon is described in the Filipino Folktale?

I believe this folktale tells us why the sun and the moon never meet. The sun only shows up at
daytime and the moon at nightime. They were not in good terms. They are chasing after each
other bu they never meet. (Except for extraordinary phenomena like the eclipse.)

Assessment 3. Saying a Song

Ang Bayan ko (My Dear Country) is a well-known and historic patriotic song in the Philippines.
The Revolutionary wrote it in Spanish, and it ends as a kundiman song.

This song acquired popularity after being sung by singer Freddie Aguilar under the Marcos
dictatorship; as a result, Marcos prohibited it when demonstrators sang it. This was performed
at Senator Benigno Aquino's funeral. Following the 1896 people power movement, Freddie
Aguilar sung it in front of millions of Filipinos, symbolising Filipino liberty.

Short reflection:

Filipinos are a very hospitable and friendly people. They always smile no matter how
they feel. If meeting someone for the first time, it would be good to smile at the person
before you even start a conversation.

Filipino, which is largely-based on Tagalog, is the national language. English is also

widely spoken by most Filipinos. The medium of instruction in most school is English.
Media is mostly in Tagalog and English so it is not surprising that most Filipinos can
speak English. It is easy for Filipinos to strike a conversation with any one even if they
tend to be shy
