Confirm the ATC arm stop angle and then perform the following procedure in Maintenance mode.
ATC stop angle is displayed on the ATC Solenoid Maintenance screen or Cam ATC Arm screen. A
Machine parameter must be changed to display the Cam ATC Arm Screen ( "5.2 ATC
Maintenance Screen").

– Only designated personnel with thorough knowledge of the machine or

trained engineers are permitted to perform this procedure.
– Read the safety precautions and ensure operator/machine safety prior to
operation.
– Confirm that all machine operations have been completed.
– Make sure to place a warning tag on each operation panel, main power
switch and other locations when performing work to ensure that other
personnel does not inadvertently operate the machine ( Instruction
Manual Chap. 1 Safety).
– An operator performing work inside the machining chamber must turn the
release key for the door switch to the [UNLOCK] position, pull the key out,
WARNING and then carry it with him during work. After completion of the work, turn the
key to the [LOCK] position and then remove it (the release key must be kept
by supervising personnel).
– If using the operator door lock (machining mode) model, when entering the
machining chamber while the power is On, the operator must carry the
portable manual pulse generator with him.
– The Interlock function can be ignored and operation performed while
holding down the [OT RELEASE] switch on the main operation panel.
However this will result in extremely dangerous working conditions. Be
aware of the potential danger.

– When the machine is already in the above respective condition, this

operation is not necessary. If pressing the [TOOL UNCLAMP] switch on the
CAUTION main operation panel, be careful that the tool does not drop.

The carrier transfers the tool pot to the rack, tool change position, or tool loading station (TLS).
The carrier unit clamps the tool pot during movement and unclamps the tool pot to transfer it to the

When the pot catch receives the tool pot from the carrier unit, the tool pot is locked to prevent the
tool pot from dropping during the tool change operation.
The tool pot clamping/unclamping of the carrier unit and tool pot locking/unlocking of the pot catch

7.4.3 Tool Magazine Manual Recovery Procedure

– Only designated personnel with thorough knowledge of the machine or

trained engineers are permitted to perform this procedure.
– Read the safety precautions and ensure operator/machine safety prior to
operation.
– Confirm that all machine operations have been completed.
– Exercise extreme caution as entry into the machine is necessary in order to
perform the following procedures.
– Make sure to place a warning tag on each operation panel, main power
switch and other locations when performing work to ensure that other
personnel does not inadvertently operate the machine ( Instruction
Manual Chap. 1 Safety).
WARNING – As the tool magazine is separated from the main operation panel, all
procedures are to be performed in pairs, and clear communication
maintained at all times, to ensure operator safety.
– Exercise extreme caution when the pot catch or carrier unit does not clamp
the tool pot completely (the tool pot is not in the right place) because the
tool may drop. Leave the situation as it is and contact your Makino service
representative for assistance.
– The Interlock function can be ignored and operation performed while
holding down the [OT RELEASE] switch on the main operation panel.
However this will result in extremely dangerous working conditions. Be
aware of the potential danger.

If the tool magazine was stopped during movement for some reason, check the exact location where it
was stopped and recover the tool magazine in maintenance mode until the operating conditions in

1 Tool Magazine Carrier AY-Axis/AZ-Axis Operation

The carrier transfers the tool pot to the rack, pot transfer position, or tool loading station (TLS).
The carrier unit clamps the tool pot during movement and unclamps the tool pot when transferring
it.
The carrier unit tool pot clamp and unclamp operations are performed by the air cylinder.
2 Sub-Arm Swing Operation
Tool change position  Pot transfer position
The tool returned from the ATC arm by the tool change operation is transferred to the sub-arm
carrier, and then the sub-arm carrier swings to 0 to the pot transfer position. After swinging 0, the
sub-arm carrier transfers the tool pot to the carrier unit.
The sub-arm carrier tool pot clamp and unclamp operations and the sub-arm tool lock and unlock
operations are performed by the air cylinder.

Machine Maintenance
Pot transfer position  Tool change position
The sub-arm carrier receives the tool pot that the carrier unit transfers to the pot transfer position.
The sub-arm carrier locks the tool, clamps the tool pot, and then swings to 90 CCW to the tool
change position. During tool change operation, the tool is unlocked mechanically and the tool pot
is locked by the pot catch. The sub-arm carrier keeps clamping the tool pot during tool change
operation.
3 ATC Arm Rotation Operation
The ATC arm rotates to exchange the next tool (in pot catch) and the spindle tool.

8.4.1 Tool Magazine Operation Sequence

The tool magazine operation sequence has the following three basic patterns.
1 Tool Indexing:
The tool (next tool) that the sub-arm clamped is returned to the tool magazine rack, and the
specified tool is indexed and transferred to the sub-arm.
2 To call a tool to the tool loading station (TLS):
The specified tool is called from the tool magazine and transferred to the tool loading station
(TLS).
3 Tool return to tool magazine from tool loading station (TLS):
The tool in the tool loading station (TLS) is returned to the rack.

If the tool magazine was stopped during movement for some reason, check the exact location where it
was stopped and recover the tool magazine in maintenance mode until the operating conditions below
are satisfied.
Tool Magazine Operation Conditions:
• AY-axis of the carrier positioned at the reference position
• AZ-axis positioned on the vertical route
• The carrier is not clamping the tool pot

After recovery, check whether the spindle tool pot number, next tool pot number, TLS pot number, and
carrier pot number saved in the Data Maintenance screen match the actual pot numbers. If any do not
match, the data must be changed and saved ( "2.4.1 Unique Data Change").
