GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS 0-1

0 GENERAL SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS

The hazards involved in operating the machine are identified by the following means:
- In this manual, warning notices serve to indicate aspects which are relevant to safety.
- On the machine, warning signs point out aspects which are relevant to safety.

0.1 Indicator words and their meaning

The indicator words use for warning notices are divided into the categories listed below, according to the
accepted degree of risk involved.

Consciously ignoring these warning notices can result in accidents, serious injuries or death.

Furthermore, serious damage may be caused to the machine and its auxiliary units. The warning notices
below must there be followed without fail!

DANGER!
Indicator word used to denote an immediately hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
will result in serious injury or death.

WARNING!
Indicator word used to denote a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in serious injury or death.

CAUTION!
Indicator word used to denote a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in slight to moderate injuries.

NOTICE! Indicator word used to denote a potentially hazardous situation which, if not avoided,
could result in damage to property.

REMARK Indicator word used to point out important or useful information.

OUTLINE 1-1

1 OUTLINE

This function is provided to limit the rapid feed rate in order to minimize the impact of a possible collision
due to a programming mistake (coordinate setting or setting of workpiece offset/tool offset value) or a col-
lision when automatic operation is started due to a mistake in mounting of the workpiece.
Furthermore, it minimizes damage to the machine and the workpiece with a feature that instantaneously
detects the abnormal load caused by a collision, and retracts the axis in the opposite direction from the
collision. Enabling this function when a program is run for the first time, and disabling the function when
the same program is run subsequent times allows the machine to be operated in a safer manner.

In order to prevent careless mistakes, the rapid feed speed limit function is enabled with the standard set-
ting when the machine is shipped. The function can be enabled/disabled with the M code or switch on the
function screen as described in section “3 TURNING FUNCTION ON/OFF”.

This function can also be disabled with the machine parameter as described in section “5 MACHINE PA-
RAMETERS”. When this function is disabled, the rapid feed rate is not limited, and the machine operates
in exactly the same way as with the previous specifications.

When the rapid feed speed limit function is enabled, “ “ is displayed in the machine status lamp area
in the Info-header, with the background highlighted in yellow. The background color is gray while the func-
tion is disabled.

WARNING 2-1

2 WARNING

In the event the cycle start switch is pressed while the rapid feed speed limit function is disabled, warning
No. 310043 is triggered.

In order to perform cycle start with the rapid feed speed limit function disabled, press the [RETRY] button
on the Alarm screen.

TURNING FUNCTION ON/OFF 3-1

3 TURNING FUNCTION ON/OFF

REMARK This function is turned On (enabled) when power is turned On.

3.1 Turning On/Off with M Code

This function can be turned On/Off with the M code described below:
- M172 S0: Disables rapid feed speed limit function
- M172 S1: Enables rapid feed speed limit function

3.2 Turning On/Off from Function Screen

This function can also be turned On/Off by turning “Rapid Feed Limit” On/Off on the Function screen.

SAMPLE USAGE 4-1

4 SAMPLE USAGE

This function can be enabled and used by creating a program like the one shown in this section. In the
program, the function is turned On/Off by specifying the M code shown.

O1234; (EXAMPLE)
T1;
M06;
H1D2; H/D commands
M3S8000; Spindle started
G54G41G90X0Y0; Positioning at work position X0Y0, factoring in tool diameter
G43Z0; Positioning at work position Z0, factoring in tool length

M172 S0; Up until this point, operation is performed with the rapid feed limit applied.
If positioning to this point is correct, the subsequent portions of the program are judged as being correct,
and the rapid feed limit function is disabled.

MACHINE PARAMETERS 5-1

5 MACHINE PARAMETERS

No. 05158 Rapid Feed Speed Limit Existence

Description 0: None / 1: Exist
Setting Unit 1: Exist (Setting when unit is shipped)
Application Set to “0” when executing machining programs for which evaluation has been com-
pleted, including the various offset values, and when running programs that are com-
patible with delivered units.
Power Off Required

No. 05159 Rapid Feed Speed Limitation Function Override

Description Set override with rapid feed speed limitation function.
Setting Unit 25% (Setting when unit is shipped)
Application When changing to appropriate override value to limit rapid feed
Power Off Required

No. 05170 Rapid Feed Speed Limit Specification

Description Rapid Feed Speed Limit Function Specifications
Meaning of Bits

Bit 0: If limit is disable, warning occurs at cycle start

The warning described in section 2 is triggered when cycle start is per-
formed with the limit function disabled. Set this bit to “0” to not trigger a
warning.

Bit 1: Enable function by cycle start

The rapid feed limit function is automatically enabled when cycle start is
performed. Set this bit to “1” in order to ensure the function is enabled in
the event operation is started while it is disabled.

Bit 2: Only OFF is enable by switch

When this bit is set to “1”, the rapid feed limit function can only be disabled
on the Function screen.
Setting Unit 00000001 (Setting when unit is shipped)
Application When changing to appropriate rapid feed limit function setting
Power Off Not required
