A. Need to Know. What kind of government did the 1935 Constitution


provide?
- The 1935 Constitution, featured a political system virtually
identical to the American one, became operative. The system called for
a President to be elected at large for a 4-year term (subject to one re-
election), a bicameral Congress, and an independent Judiciary. During
the 1935 Constitution, President had a 4 year term in service but
he/she can run again for the next election.

B. Now You Know. How did the constitution organize the Philippine
government? What were the branches of the government and their
respective functions and power?
- The 1935 Constitution provided the legal basis of the
Commonwealth Government which was considered a transition
government before the granting of the Philippine independence with
American-inspired constitution. In this constitution there are three
branches of the government; The Legislative Branch to make the laws.
Congress is made up of two houses, the Senate and the House of
Representatives. The Executive Branch to enforce the laws (president,
vice president, Cabinet, most federal agencies).
The Judicial Branch to interpret the laws (Supreme Court and other
courts).
