Statement of Purpose
Self-awareness is an essential aspect of any youth's life. With the many trends occurring
over social media and real life, it is very easy for one to be swayed by them, leading one to
conform to patterns that are not affiliated with them and losing their identity and sight of who
they are. I am a very focused person when it comes to my life, though that does not mean that I
do not enjoy life or have time for others. Having the right friends who are goal-oriented like me
has been of great help to keep me on my toes and correct me when I seem to lose sight of my
dreams and vision.
Despite being goal-oriented and wanting to make the best out of my life, I am an
outgoing person, an extrovert, to be precise. I love playing soccer with my friends and watching
it over the television when games are played worldwide. My favorite soccer players are
Christiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, who play for Juventus and FC Barcelona. Soccer was a
big part of my life growing up since my dad never missed a game over the television, and they
would discuss the games with his friends over at our house. I think that soccer grew on me from
a young age because I began playing in our school soccer team when I was in seventh grade, at
the age of eleven. In my junior years, we used to have competitions with my neighbors in the
estate, whereby we would form teams to play against each other, and the losing team would buy
snacks for the winners for a whole week. Our parents knew of these matches and were very
supportive, and would come to watch our games from time to time and cheer us on. Such
gestures made me fall in love with soccer more and believe that I would be a great player
someday. Playing in my high school soccer team garnered me sponsorship from my current
university, which has relieved my parents of paying my university fees. With the possibility that
I can earn good money from my skills, my dream of becoming a renowned player in the world
and play in a major league is still alive. The best part of being a soccer fanatic and player is that
my father gifted me a ticket to Russia to watch the FIFA World Cup in 2018. Those were the
best days of my life.
Besides soccer, I love music and can am particularly good at playing the guitar. My
mother always complains about my loud volume tendencies when I listen to music over the
stereo, or how I am always with my headphones and hear nothing when someone is talking to
me. My favorite musicians are the Late Prince, the boy band One Direction, and Maroon 5. I like
the versatility of a guitar in that it can produce different sounds depending on our preference and
choice. Growing up, we never failed to attend church, and the instrumentalists always showed
such deep emotions when playing the instruments. I fell in love with the guitar when a gospel
rock band played at the church during a concert, solely relying on the guitar for their sound.
Henceforth, I decided to try my hand at playing the guitar, leading me to become active in the
church school, which taught young people skills such as playing instruments, acting, and singing.
To date, whenever I feel overwhelmed, I play the guitar in my bedroom to relieve some pressure.
My career plans are that I want first to seek employment in a well-paying organization to
raise money to set up my business. Being an entrepreneur has always been my goal. The course I
am majoring in, business management, will be of great help in the global market since I am
learning so many vital things about my career path. Business management is teaching me how to
develop, enhance, and use my employment skills and business. Skills such as leadership, critical
thinking, communication, problem-solving, and interrelations with colleagues are imperative in
any industry. It is also an excellent opportunity to gain insight into the business world's
operations and enhance my chances of employability.
