MANAGEMENT ETHICS AND MORAL ISSUES (DPE 309)

"In order to retrieve and recapture some original indigenous values and meanings which lie buried in our cultural legacy,
please search for wise sayings, moral principles, proverbs, aphorisms, songs, myths, parables, and fables related to the
Filipino values."

The Filipino values are survival, prudence, diligence and patience, diplomacy, work (hard work), family, personal dignity,
resourcefulness, human fellowship, non-violence, Education, religion, hospitality, freedom and love of country, self-
discipline and parental responsibility.

1. Survival (Quote)

“ Sometimes even to live is an act of courage” “We could do it, you know.”

In dictionary the term survival is an act or fact of surviving, as we all know very person need to survive in daily
life. Even if we are not born in this world and we are in the womb of our mother survival is needed which we must
continue to survive in order us to live. But we Filipino all sacrifices and challenges that we struggle and fighting for
everything, we live with more courage and strength so that we could do everything we can as long as we survive in our
daily lives. As of now, we live with new normal situation but we Filipinos are still survive for what challenges happens to
us even though we our insufficient for our needed in our lives. We Filipinos are survivor even me because no matter what
happen in my life I will still continue to pray and fight for what happens in our environment. To continue life, we must live
with love and strong faith with God to survive in this world.

2. Prudence (Proverb)

“ Talk less Listen More”


Proverbs 10:19

It is true that wise and knowledgeable person think billion and million times before going to do a certain job or
situation that can benefits them. The proverbs tell us that we must be wise because everything we do it will affect in our
personality. It is correct that talk less and listen more because emphasize these for a person of being wise. We Filipinos we
are sometimes more talk than listen that is why we easily wrong in our decision in our life but we can change that kind of
attitude we adopt. All we have to do is we listen all important and useful words that can help us a a person to become a
successful or ideal one.

3. Diligence and Patience


Diligence

“Self-belief and hard work will always earn you success.”


This saying tells us that if we have courage and confidence in our self with work hard you can be successful
someday. We Filipino have the ability and skills to make our dreams come true, if we persist to do a certain job/work we
can make it happen but we must have self-confidence and have positive thoughts in our daily life.

Patience

“Have patience with all things, but first of all with yourself”

Waiting and sacrifices earn success. Loving and having patience within yourself is the best way to achieve your
goals and dreams but unknowing yourself is the part that you can cannot earn success. These values tell us that we become
more patience within ourselves because you can gain respect and love by others if you respect and love yourself. Loving
and respecting reflects you on how to become patience in yourself and to others.

4. Diplomacy

“A diplomat thinks twice before saying nothing.”

In the dictionary, the meaning of diplomacy is skill in managing negotiations. This values emphasize that we
human have the ability in dealing with every person as long as we do in a good path way. Diplomacy tells us to reunite
others by dealing and talking them in a nice way. A diplomat person are the one who practice diplomacy on their own life
that is why they think before they do a certain acts or talks that can hurt other feelings. Being a diplomat is not that easy
because every move or actions you do can might cause harm or danger or either good or success. A diplomat person stand
on his own dignity and conscience for being a good person not a one sided but a fair one.

5. Work (Hard work)

“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap but by the seeds that you plant”

These values reflect each one of us because we live in this world to work hard in order us to survive and support
our family. The word work reminds me on how I love and support my family in times of financial and other needed
support to make us live in this world. As a teacher and a mother, I work hard for my family to support and sustain their
needs financially and morally. So, this quote tells us that every day we must cherish and love our work as long as we live
because reminds us on how we surpass the hardship and sacrifices we made in order us to fulfil our dreams in life. This
quote reflects us that every day we do in our lives has its meaning and not be taken for granted as long as we do good to
others.

6. Family

“Song: Anak”

This value reminds us that we Filipino have a family oriented and we adopt it on our ancestors.
The song “anak” tells on how our mother or family raised us to become a better person someday. This song reminds every
person to treasure and love our family because no matter what happens our family is our strength in times on our
difficulties and weaknesses encounter in our lives. We always remember that love and care of our family is just like a
diamond or gold that we treasure and love as long we live in this world.

7. Personal dignity

“Seek respect not attention to lasts longer.”

This Filipino value summoned us on how we rate or identify ourselves in times of pain, sorrows and difficulties in our life.
The important values that we must adapt is to respect yourself as others respect you that is why this value starts from home
as a child grown up teach or learn them on how they respect themselves so that someday people respect them also. Being
respectful is learned from the family. This saying tells us or me to become a respectful person even others are not because
this could no longer stays on their mind but reflects you as a person in front of others.

8. Resourcefulness
“Start where you are, use what you have, do what you can.”

This quote reminds me or us that we must used what we have and do it right now not tomorrow, not today but now
because now is not for today, today is not now. I mean used other sources on what you have to create a new beginning of a
new life. Being resourceful is a skill of an individual who can create and provide the important necessities in our lives. As
long as we live we must creative and resourceful on what we have because all things is important as long as you know how
to used it.

9. Human Fellowship

“Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.”
Proverbs 10:24

A proverbs reminds me or us to love one another by doing good deeds because this will create you a good
relationship to others. This Filipino value focus on how a person creates a good relationship to others not only to their
family but to other people. To motivate others spread the acts of love and good works so that the positivity of an attitude of
being friendly can produce a ghood harmonious relationship to each other.

10. Non-violence

“We do not need guns and bombs to bring peace, we need love and compassion.”
Mother Teresa

This values reminds us that the power of love and truth can prevent war at the same time can produce peace of
mind, if there is love among each of us violence and wars diminished. According to Mother Teresa we need love and
compassion instead of using harmful equipments to create peace. Peace comes from the heart and mind of a person with
love and compassion on his own way of living. Violence is not solution but a problem to create but to stop it every person
must create love and compassion for themselves before loving other people.

11. Education

“If you are not willing to learn, no one can help you. If you are determined to learn no one can stop you.”

This Filipino value is important in person’s life because from the beginning in our lives we educate our parents to
become a good person someday. They teach us to learn in so many things in our lives so that we can survive or fight in the
outside world of people. A quote tells us that if you have willingness to learn in everything you can do without any
hesitations because is your choice. In Education no can stop you because you are willing to learn more about everything
you want to be but be sure you eagerness gives you learning to achieve your goal or to become a successful one.

12. Religion

“Faith is like WiFi, its invisible but it has the power to connect you to what you need.”

This Filipino values connect me or rate me on how my faith in God. Speaking of religion, it comes to my mind on
how I love and thankful that God is there for me to protect and guide me every time I fall down. But every trials I
encountered God is always there to hug and provide me what I need most. The quotes emphasize that our faith in God is
just like a online connectivity that every day we need to connect or contact God for praising and glorifying him for the life
he gave to us. God in invisible but we feel his presence which he has a power to connect us of what we need in our daily
life. Through this value help us to connect with God everyday.

13. Hospitality

“Let us think about each other and help each other to show love and good deeds.”

We Filipino are well known for being hospitable that is why we have so many foreigner or tourist in our country
because of our attitude and values we have. By being hospitable sometimes we have a negative feedback or positive
feedback. A positive feedback is that we are hospitable because we accept people even if we don’t know yet but the
negative feedback is that to praise other people we lend money provide the need of our visitors. This quote reminds us as a
Filipino we must cooperate or combine each other or help other by showing love and good deeds to others by accepting
them heartedly. Sometimes you don’t have anything but we Filipino find something to give to show our love and good
deeds to others that is why we known for being persistent and dedicated by other country.

14. Freedom and Love of country

“He who does not know how to look back at where he came from he will never get to his destination.”

This value reminds us on how we became independent individual and how we free to go around, choose what we
want and especially on how we do without limitations. We must look back
Our ancestor and even our heroes on how they fight for our freedom until now we used it. We must remember that we must
love our country as much as we love our selves. By doing these, we finally achieved and attained success. Always
remember we must love our country so that we achieve freedom. Being a Filipino follow Philippine law is showing love
for you country.

15. Sel-discipline

“The first and best victors is to conquer self.”


Plato

Self-discipline is within yourself not by others but it’s you on how you handle and motivate yourself in a certain
situation that makes you happy and sad. This is the difficult part of value that you cannot easily change within yourself
because we persons born to be sinful that is why you cannot maintain discipline within yourself. The quote truly stated the
true happiness, success and glory if you find and accept yourself as an individual.

16. Parental Responsibility

“Your children need your presence more than your presents.”

This value is the hardest part for a parents and family because all the responsibilities as a parenting must be handle
with care and love. As long as you have a family, it enters rental responsibility because you are facing some trials and
problems in terms with your children on how you raise and develop a good relationship and attitudes towards other.
The quotes tells us that our children needs our presence everyday were you are there to guide, care and sustain
their needs in their daily life
