01
What Is Persuasion?
What Is Persuasion?

Persuasion is when you convince your audience to change their point of view,
or for them to agree to your argument, claim, or statement. The purpose
of persuasion in writing is to convince, motivate, or to let the readers to move
toward a certain point of view, or opinion.

Persuasion are the influence of beliefs, attitudes, intentions, motivations, or

behaviors.

Persuasion are always coupled with argumentation.

Persuasion is not a coercion nor it is a propaganda.

02
Persuasive Appeals
Types Of Persuasive Appeals Are:-

Logos
Pathos
Ethos

These terms were coined (invented) by the great philosopher

Aristotle, for over 2,000 years ago. He argued that there were three
basic ways to persuade an audience that you as a writer or speaker
Aristotle are correct.
Logos
Logos is an appeal to logic. In here the writer make use of logical and reasoning
thoughts to build their arguments, wherein they include facts and evidences to
strengthen the logic of their arguments.

Example:-
“Good morning sir, I think we should end the class early today because the room is too
hot. There is an accumulation of carbon dioxide here which makes the temperature
rise”
Pathos
Pathos is an appeal to emotion. In here the writer establish an emotional
connection between the topic and their audience by using personal stories,
emotionally charged language, tone, and figurative language.

Using Pathos alone won’t be as effective as when it is used in conjunction with

Logos and/or Ethos.

Example:-
"You should consider another route if you leave later. I heard that that street is
far more dangerous and ominous at night than during the daytime."
Ethos
Ethos Is an appeal to credibility. In here the writers establish their authority by
including a relevant personal background information or show their trustworthiness
and reliability.

Example:-
"If my age doesn't convince you that I know what I'm talking about, at least
consider that I am your father and I only want the best for you."
03
Types Of Audience
To Be Dealt With
Supportive Audience
This type of audience is wherein they have an interest in the writer’s topic, they
agree with the writer’s idea, and they are also well informed about the writer’s
topic.
Wavering Audience
These are the type of audience wherein they are interested into the writer’s topic but
still they need more information regarding the topic and they quite doubtful,
whether to agree or disagree with the writer’s idea.
Hostile Audience
This type of audience is the most difficult to please and to win over. Because these
are the type of audience that does not agree with the writer’s topic or idea, no
matter who the writer is or what emotion the writer is trying to convey still they
won’t agree unless facts and evidence are given to them.
