IT 60 Social and Professional Issues

NARRATIVE REPORT
Andres, Myka C. BSIT 3B-LL

INTRODUCTION

A social issue or problem is something that society has identified as a problem that is impeding
society from functioning at its best. It is critical to recognize that not everything that occurs in
society is elevated to the level of a social problem. With new applications and technologies
emerging at a rapid pace, the global use of computers, information systems, and information
technology continues to grow. As the pace of change accelerates, new challenges, tensions, and
complexities arise between what can be done and what should be done. Understanding the social,
legal, and ethical issues and the frameworks available for assessing them is important for
everyone but especially for those who work with these systems. This course will examine the
role of these systems and technologies, ways they can change the world, the dangers and the
protections, and professional responsibilities. Topics will include intellectual property, privacy,
security, and accessibility.
BODY
We need to study social and professional issues since it allows us to address ethical dilemmas as
students. The most prevalent sorts of computer and internet crime, the right to privacy, freedom
of expression, and intellectual property are all discussed under social and professional issues.
Ethics is one component that determines a person's social position. In this day and age, when
everything is governed by technology, people forget to act ethically and morally, especially on
the internet or social media. Social and professional challenges include ethics and how a person
or employee should conduct themselves at work. Employers and employees must work together
to create a non-toxic workplace where religion and appearance are irrelevant and open
communication leads to a win-win situation for everyone. Being morally aware and having good
netiquette can help to alter a society plagued by misconceptions and strife.
SUMMARY
We discussed about ethics and morality during the prelim time. I also studied about moral
philosophy, which is the study of what is morally good or evil, right or wrong. It clearly specifies
how a person should act in a certain situation. Ethics guides people's behavior, making a
community more peaceful, harmonious, and enjoyable to live in. Because the eyes of the law are
not always present, ethics acts as a self-governing mechanism to keep human self-interest and
the good of society in balance.
We also discussed about workplace ethics during the midterm period. Workplace ethics results in
happy and content employees who look forward to going to work rather than seeing it as a chore.
Employees develop a sense of loyalty and devotion to the company as well.
And during the final period our topic is about privacy issues. We all know that this is very timely
nowadays, especially now that technology is emerging. But there are numerous strategies to
improve your online privacy. One way is to utilize encryption in every internet transaction you
make.
And we also discussed about social justice and freedom of speech. Fairness and equity are
promoted through social justice in many facets of society. It encourages equitable economic,
educational, and workplace opportunities, for example. Individual and community safety and
security are also essential considerations. Its belief that everyone deserves equal economic,
political, and social rights and opportunities is known as social justice. Social workers strive to
provide access and opportunities for everyone, especially those who are most in need.
And the right to freedom of expression is a basic human right. It also supports and allows the
development of most other rights. The right to openly express oneself on major social issues,
obtain information, and hold the powers that be accountable is critical to a society's healthy
development.
